Facebook has banned Trump until Jan 20
Facebook will ban President Donald Trump's account from posting for at least the remainder of his term in office and perhaps "indefinitely," CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a blog post on Thursday.
"We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great," Zuckerberg wrote in the post. "Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete."

Just leaves his mobile and the US Postal Service left :-)
Now if only Twitter had banned his account 4 years ago...

Looking at that idiot in the top pic, I also found this:
kingdragonfly: I'm feeling very world weary this morning.
I could comment on how
- Fox News Tucker Carlson paints protests and death of protesters differently depending on their skin colour
- how Trump said he loved the traitors / thugs, and they were special
- how the white nationalist who broke into Nancy Pelosi office, took a selfie, got entire articles espousing his beliefs, and a million other things.
- how various speakers at the protest invoked Hitler, and shooting the opposition
But I'm just weary.
America's high point was 1946. The former Axis learned hard lessons, and made progress, in particular Germany.
But instead of the Allies moving forward, they continued following their lizard-brain instincts, in particular America: narcissism, fear, greed, hypocrisy, racism, and domination
America is the racist drunk uncle that you can't invite to family events. No amount of intervention will ever change him. Reasoned arguments will never sink in.
Saying "I think you've had enough" and suggesting he put down the bottle and take off his tattered American flag cape will just get the response "Who do you think you are? You think you're better than me? You're not better than me!" followed by a thrown punch. "You're lucky I don't shoot you, right in your pretty face. You know I love you."
Everyone just shakes their head in disgust, when he turns his back, and hopes he leaves soon.
Well said.

How am I diverting it? I don't give a damn about the mob or if they get sick - it's the legislators in the building they invaded (in a finely balanced house of representatives) that I'm worried about. Imagine having to hold a by-election in that political climate.
A congressman returned a positive test just hours after voting. He had been sheltering in the safe areas with the other representatives etc. Minimal physical distancing and apparently only half were wearing masks.
BBC News - Senate Democratic leader Schumer calls for Trump to be removed
breaking
Chuck Schumer, the Senate Democratic leader, has called for President Donald Trump to be "immediately" removed from office.
"What happened at the US Capitol yesterday was an insurrection against the United States, incited by the president. This president should not hold office one day longer," he said in a statement.
He added that Mike Pence should invoke the 25th Amendment, which allows for a transfer of power from the president to the vice-president.
"If the vice-president and the cabinet refuse to stand up, Congress should reconvene to impeach the president,” he said.
Schumer is one of the most high-profile names to call for Trump to be removed over the incident, but he's not the only one.
Adam Kinzinger, a Republican congressman for Illinois, has also called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked.

The Washington Post - Pelosi, Schumer call for Trump’s removal
breaking
The top Democrats in Congress - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) - on Thursday called for President Trump’s immediate removal from office, either by his Cabinet or possibly through impeachment.
“By inciting sedition as he did yesterday, he must be removed for office. While there’s only 13 days left, any day could be a horror show for America,” Pelosi told reporters on Capitol Hill.

I'm not 100% sure what to think about the woman who was shot and killed by capitol police. By all accounts she wasn't actively trying to assault anyone, but she was part of a large violent crowd forcibly making it's way into Government buildings.
Like so many others, she'd had presumably been bombarded with misinformation for months, so it's hard to put too much blame on her.
Lethal force probably wasn't required, but on the other hand it was a violent mob storming a government complex housing officials that the police are there to protect. I think it's hard to blame the officer who fired the shot.
What if someone in authority had essentially brainwashed thousands of people (including the victim) through months of misinformation, riled them up in the morning, and then pointed them to the capitol building? I think I'd put more blame on that person than I would on either the victim or the shooter.
It's very easy to label the rioters "despicable" etc, but we need to remember that many of them probably are decent people who have been convinced by a con man that their country is being attacked from within. Sure, there are plenty of white supremacists in mix as well, but I doubt they were the majority.

But only if Pence is on board. Pelosi and Schumer can call for his removal as much as they like, but without Pence it can't go anywhere. Now that Trump has thrown Pence under the bus it could happen, but I doubt he has the balls to pull the trigger.

The Washington Post - Trump awards Medals of Freedom to three golfers on morning after riot at Capitol
breaking
Less than 24 hours after pro-Trump insurrectionists stormed the U.S. Capitol building and stalled congressional efforts to count electoral college votes for President-elect Joe Biden, President Trump awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to golfers Annika Sorenstam, Gary Player and the late Babe Zaharias in a closed-door ceremony Thursday.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom, considered the nation’s highest civilian honor, is awarded by the president “to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors,” according to the White House.

It's his way of trying to return to "normal". He thinks if he ignores the riot he incited that it will all just go away.
The Washington Post - Former attorney general Barr says Trump’s conduct was ‘a betrayal of his office and supporters'
today
Former attorney general William P. Barr, who had been one of Trump’s most loyal and effective Cabinet secretaries and, for a time, supported his claims of possible voter fraud, condemned Trump on Thursday for his incitement of the previous day’s violence at the Capitol.
“Orchestrating a mob to pressure Congress is inexcusable,” Barr said in a statement released through his former spokeswoman. “The president’s conduct yesterday was a betrayal of his office and supporters.”
Barr resigned as attorney general on Dec. 23, his relationship with the president having soured in his last months in office.
Although he had warned before the election of the dangers of fraud from mass mail-in voting, Barr said afterward that the Justice Department had not detected evidence of such conduct that could affect the result - infuriating the president.
On Wednesday after a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, Barr issued a statement condemning the violence and calling on federal agencies to quell it - although he did not take aim at Trump.
His Thursday statement, though, made clear he blames Trump at least in part for what occurred.

I did see a few comments saying that when the Black Lives Matter protesters were in the same area, there were armed police to the hilt to stop them there - I presume ordered by Trump himself. Yet his bunch of followers/thugs/goons/losers/idiots/whatevers (who were mostly white) want to storm the Capitol to stop him losing the election? No problem, I'll have as few police as possible there. Go for your life.
But, but! He's "the least racist president since Lincoln"...somehow.
