Paul1977: I'm not 100% sure what to think about the woman who was shot and killed by capitol police. By all accounts she wasn't actively trying to assault anyone, but she was part of a large violent crowd forcibly making it's way into Government buildings.

As any one of colour in America will tell you, if any American law-enforcement officer has his firearm pulled, whatever he says you do.

It's not called "suicide from police officer" for nothing.

She was in the armed forces. Before you enter a gun range, the first thing you're taught is "Always assume it's loaded" and then "Don't pull it if you're not going to use it."

She was misguided, but there are many people who are dead because of a chain of bad decisions.

Paul1977:

It's very easy to label the rioters "despicable" etc, but we need to remember that many of them probably are decent people who have been convinced by a con man that their country is being attacked from within. Sure, there are plenty of white supremacists in mix as well, but I doubt they were the majority.

You are veering close to Trump territory with a comment like that. Did you see the images of those screaming fanatics with their faces twisted in rage? If they had had the means, they would have lynched half the congress without the slightest hesitation. These animals were being driven by blood-lust. They were not 'decent' people. The decent people were outside aimlessly milling around, or somewhere else entirely. The invaders of congress were utterly despicable and they absolutely were the majority. Decent people don't crash through windows and doors howling for the blood of the nation's vice-president and other leaders. Quit apologising for these vicious a$$holes!

Have you seen the image of the guy with the big bundle of zip-ties? What do you think his intention was that morning when he got dressed for the protest? Why carry them? What would have happened if he had run in to Pelosi or Schumer or Occasio-Cortez? Don't forget the plot foiled late last year where some terrorists wanted to kidnap Governor Whitmer of Michigan. They were going to stage a protest at the state capital and then storm the building with zip-ties and kidnap her and other senior democrats. The intention was to hold a mock trial and then execute them for treason.

I will use a crude joke to explain it:

"What do you call ten people having lunch with a nazi? Eleven nazis."

If you know racism, nationalism are wrong and still go with the flow, then you are one of them.

They have no excuses. They are despicable.

Question:

Was there more or less rioters yesterday 06/01/2021 compared to his inauguration 20/01/2017 ??

Real Facts not Fake News.

The Washington Post - Trump’s remarks before Capitol riot may be investigated, acting D.C. U.S. attorney says

breaking

The top federal prosecutor in Washington D.C. said Thursday that President Trump was not off limits in his investigation of the events surrounding Wednesday’s riot at the U.S. Capitol, saying “all actors” would be examined to determine if they broke the law.

Asked if federal agents and prosecutors will look at the incendiary statements made by speakers at Trump’s rally shortly before a mob of his supporters breached security at the Capitol and wreaked havoc inside, acting U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin said: “Yes, we are looking at all actors here, not only the people that went into the building, but … were there others that maybe assisted or facilitated or played some ancillary role in this. We will look at every actor and all criminal charges.

Asked specifically if that included President Trump, Sherwin replied, “We are looking at all actors here, and anyone that had a role, if the evidence fits the element of a crime, they’re going to be charged.” ...

ROFL. There's always an old tweet to come back and bite. He is talking about this executive order signed last year after the BLM protests.

"I just had the privilege of signing a very strong Executive Order protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues - and combatting recent Criminal Violence. Long prison terms for these lawless acts against our Great Country!"

What they did was despicable; but how many of them were only there because of months of brainwashing, misinformation, and a president encouraging them? It doesn't excuse it by any means, but I find it difficult to label them all as evil (however certainly some of them are).

I think this is different from the "fine people on both sides" - they were all tiki torch wielding white supremacists. Many of the people yesterday were as well, and they certainly aren't decent, but I'm sure many weren't white supremacists either and were just there to protest what they've been convinced was a rigged election.

I just think it's counterproductive to paint all Trump supporters with the same brush.

Like I said it doesn't excuse it in any way.

Certainly there were a good number of terrible people looking to cause harm yesterday, and it's possible some did have even more nefarious intentions than we even know about. All I'm saying is I'd be surprised if they were the majority - I think most were probably brainwashed/ignorant people who got swept up in mob mentality.

Do I laugh or do I cry?  The hypocrisy of this whitewash is stunning ...

The Washington Post - Kayleigh McEnany says White House finds violence at Capitol ‘appalling’ and “reprehensible”

today

More than 24 hours after a violent mob incited by Trump stormed the Capitol, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany delivered brief remarks on behalf of the White House condemning the attacks in terms stronger than anything Trump has used.

The violence we saw yesterday at our nation’s Capitol was appalling, reprehensible and antithetical to the American way,” she read to reporters in the press briefing room.

We condemn it, the president and this administration, in the strongest possible terms. It is unacceptable.”

McEnany said the violent rioters at the Capitol undermined the rights of the “many thousands who came to peacefully have their voices heard in our nation’s capital” and said they are “the opposite of everything this administration stands for.”

I imagine now that after the appalling incident yesterday, Joe's inauguration will have security to the hilt...they'll be keen to not let this nonsense happen again.
