The coronavirus thrives indoors, particularly in crowded spaces, lingering in the air in tiny particles called aerosols. If even a few extremists were infected - likely, given the current rates of spread and the crowd size - then the virus would have had the ideal opportunity to find new victims, experts said.

On that basis it seems high risk to have continued the congress after that bunch had entered and left. If that was an NZ supermarket it would have been handled better. Ie; deep clean.

I kind of wonder if some of the non-violent deaths during the rally were covid related. Hope not. Maybe that will come out if so.

I reckon that Josh idiot who was the first to jump up and kiss Trum...er...back him on his ridiculous election fraud claims should stand down. I agree with the guy who nominated him for the role. How the hell is he going to get anything done now, even with other Republicans? Who would listen to a moron like this?

Regardless of his inciting, heads of the capitol police need to roll they might as well just invited them in.

From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_storming_of_the_United_States_Capitol#Scrutiny_of_Capitol_security_response

Footage emerged on social media of police allowing rioters through barricades into the Capitol, and one officer was filmed taking a selfie with a rioter inside the building.Representative Jim Cooper (D-TN) was concerned that Capitol police could have been complicit in the breach, saying "At worst, [Capitol police] let this protest proceed unlike any other". Multiple European security officials, including two intelligence officials from NATO member countries, in interviews with Business Insider suggested the breach may have been abetted by "tacit support" of the attackers among members of Capitol Police and other federal agencies assisting with Capitol complex security.

Sideface:

The mob that stormed the Capitol on Wednesday did not just threaten the heart of American democracy.

To scientists who watched dismayed as the scenes unfolded on television, the throngs of unmasked intruders who wandered through hallways and into private offices may also have transformed the riot into a super-spreader event.

The coronavirus thrives indoors, particularly in crowded spaces, lingering in the air in tiny particles called aerosols. If even a few extremists were infected - likely, given the current rates of spread and the crowd size - then the virus would have had the ideal opportunity to find new victims, experts said.

It has all the elements of what we warn people about,” said Anne Rimoin, an epidemiologist at the University of California, Los Angeles.

People yelling and screaming, chanting, exerting themselves - all of those things provide opportunity for the virus to spread, and this virus takes those opportunities.” ...

A nice mob you have there. It would be a shame if anything happened to them.

Trump throws supporters under the bus just like he ripped off the contactors and construction workers in business:

Trump video message:

To demonstrators who infiltrated the Capitol: you have defiled the seat of American democracy.

To those who engage in the acts of violence and destruction: you do not represent our country.

And to those who broke the law: you will pay.

Usual story. Trump walks away with the money. Someone else pays.

Failing to see what the problem is here.

(I noted in the photos that all of the people who were there legitimately were wearing masks. and no doubt taking other precautions as well to avoid getting infected).

Major articles like this are usually syndicated to other publications. Do a Google search for the headline and you can often find an unpaywalled version. Try this.

Virus particles remaining on surfaces. Virus particles lurking in air conditioning. Infected people catching a plane home, taking a taxi, taking it to work. Any kind of spread is bad for everyone.

Problem is, half the thugs in that mob don't care, because they've been brainwashed into believing "it's just a little flu". To them, it's absolutely nothing to worry about whatsoever.
