The New York Times - How to Impeach a President in 12 Days: Here’s What It Would Take

today

headings only ...

  • Congress can remove a president for high crimes and misdemeanors.

  • Impeaching Trump now could bar him from public office in the future.

  • There’s nothing preventing a second impeachment of Mr. Trump.

  • The timing is tight, but not impossible.

  • Trump can still be impeached as an ex-president.

MAGA Trumpers can't believe the man known for throwing his associates under the bus is throwing them all under the bus.

Rikkitic:

My greatest wish is that these miserable morons will collapse in despair, as it seems some are already doing, as their false idol turns on them to save his own skin. These people deserve all the disappointment, frustration, crushed hopes and failed expectation that can be heaped on them. They deserve all the pain and unhappiness their imploding dreams can bring. I hope they wander the earth forever in confused anguish, never understanding why their stupid fantasies got stomped into the mud.

LOVE IT, Love It, love it

Oh dear how sad - they have wasted maybe billions or at least hundreds of millions of dollars on this man right up till the 6th Jan and they are only now discovering they have ALL been tricked by the man they have worshipped for five years. The Emperor DOES have clothes.

The only election promise he fore filled was tax cuts for the rich and entitled. He never got the coal miners, the auto workers or anybody really back their jobs. He totally ignored the pandemic which took away even more jobs, made millions homeless and has killed thousands, so far. The pandemic could have made Trump one of the greatest presidents except he did nothing and he has paid dearly for it. He has decimated the GOP. Destroyed great and meaningful institutions. Ruined Americas foreign relations and treaties, quite possible for decades.

These insurrectionists, anarchists, red necks and even those of education and wealth, are now realising that their Dear Leader, Mein Fuhrer, El Duce, has abandoned their Confederate red ship and all it floated for.  All they can do now is go back into the dark, damp hills of the Ozarks or their Texas, Arkansas and other confederate mansions serviced by illegal immigrants, to drink their moonshine or expensive cognac courage and reminisce about the good old times of 2015 to 2021 and pre 1861? And blame everybody else but themselves.

They should of all read his manifesto “The Art of Deal” just as in the 1930’s Germans and the world should have all read “Mein Kampf”.

Hitler and his cronies slithered down into their bunker never to come out again. Trump has hundreds of bunkers around the world, I wonder which one he will choose.

Who will these self disenfranchised Republicans turn to now?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Problem is, half the thugs in that mob don't care, because they've been brainwashed into believing "it's just a little flu". To them, it's absolutely nothing to worry about whatsoever.

During the Black Plagues, people believed these prevented the disease:
  • North winds
  • Windows should only be opened in a northward direction
  • only sleep at night
  • dry climates
  • a strong belief in god
  • self-chastisement (beating yourself, in the painful way)
And these caused the plague
  • pretty girls (Devils liked pretty girls, so would hang around them)
  • Jews poisoning wells
  • wrath of God from sin
  • bad smelling winds
  • evil humours from earthquakes

If Trump is not removed from office, it will be a worse blow to American democracy than anything that has gone before.

It will tell him, as well as any other like-minded domestic terrorists, that, once again, he can do whatever he likes and get away with it.

"I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK?"

Remember, this is a statement he made before he became President.

He must be held to account for his destructive behaviour and punished.

If this is not done, American democracy and its rule of law will be never be respected again.

Who is that Mindy bimbo? Another wannabe Trumper?

Melinda Lynn Robinson is an American actress and reality TV show personality.

She's a right-wing gun-toting Karen.

She's a modern Titan Cronus (Saturn), devouring her own children.

The alt-right seem to be fair-weather friends.

Article I read today talked about how the business community are shunning him. Yes, they got what they wanted, less tax, less regulation and pro Business Supreme Court judges. But, the gains were on Wall St not Main St, there was no massive economic boom. The bit I liked is give tax cuts to the plebs, then get the plebs to use those cuts to pay the trade war tariffs on Chinese goods to the US Government.

We have all heard that he was watching the riots on TV. Not all of the time. Reported today he called a Republican Senator to ask for rejecting the electoral result and can you give your phone to another Senator to ask the same thing, while these two senators and everyone else was on the floor in the Capitol Building as it was being overrun.

I get that, but. He can't be removed. he has to resign which he won't, he can be removed by Pence supporting 25th Amendment, he said he wont support that, or impeached, which he will be by Wednesday when the House supports that. That doesn't remove him. To remove him the Senate needs to vote 2/3, which while there are a growing number of GOP lambasting him, that wont pass.  So, it wont happen

That almost everyone and anyone are calling him out, and more vigorously, and that Capitol is now secure, Electoral result affirmed and Inauguration soon, he will be  out in 12 days. Investigation will go ahead, including Trump. Given all this Biden will take over in 12 days and dealing with the various crises, while in parallel, the events of Jan 6 will be playing out for some time, but the headline news needs to be the virus, the vaccine the economy, and trade relations. In one word rebuilding this trainwreck.

I hear you, but do we want the news dominated for three months about Trump? No.

His legacy has already been decided, as has the need to AVOID madmen being involved in Government.

The Guardian - Don't blame Trump for the chaos in Washington DC. Blame his enablers.

today

... blaming Trump for the violence is pointless.

Those who have followed this president knew he would never concede defeat.

For the last two months, Trump has essentially become our subversive-in-chief, working overtime to overturn a democratic election.

Yesterday, Mitch McConnell finally said, “back in your cage” - overlooking the fact that for years he had fed and nurtured the beast.

Yet McConnell’s belated defense of democracy rings heroic compared to the tinny sounds emerging from Ted Cruz.

Cruz is already positioning himself as Trump 2.0; as a smoother, more intelligent and articulate demagogue. ...

EDIT: re the cartoon: Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and Darrell Issa are all "ambitious" Donald Trump loyalists.

I've ordered 200 litres of Janola for you, courier will drop off Jan 21st. It didn't work in the swamp, but it will work for that toilet!

That will be a waste because he will use it to treat covid-19.
