I think it's wrong to label these tactics as fascist. FUD is a pretty standard tactic worldwide, and used by despots of all persuasions.

Check to all. Yes - he's a fascist. It's just a name, don't be afraid to use it.

I don't think there's any way he'll be stopped or even slowed down short of impeachment. That's becoming more of a possibility, there probably would be the numbers in both houses if he continues on his present path. But then, it still wouldn't be over. He wouldn't go down without a fight - presumably that would include accusation that is was "proof" of the conspiracy theories he's been arguing, with the result that literally millions of avid supporters will run riot.

He has ceased his present path, if you refer to pre election result. Yes, there are the matters of his kids, but he's been tame. very much diluted his attitude, and his promises.

At the end of the day it comes down to, will he:

1. Run the country as he ran the election, and the GOP can only watch and hope

2. Run the country as a figurehead for the GOP as he has no knowledge, or experience of the outcomes from whatever he says and does. In the election there was only one outcome, votes or no votes

My problem is if you assume the best, you won't be prepared for the worst. I would rather see the Trump presidency as the end of the world, and then hope to be pleasantly surprised. In the meantime prepare the best I can for the worst.

Read again what I posted earlier. Hitler too "ceased" his rethoric when he got into the Reichstag. Once President Hinderburg gave him the Chancellor office, everything changed.

Where on earth do you get that idea? He's only shut up his face because he no longer needs to win an election.

Last I heard, the wall is still very much on, he's deporting 3 million, pulling out of climate change deals etc etc.

He's perhaps tweaked a few things, like the 45% tariff on chinese imported goods, possibly "renegotiate" NAFTA rather than dump it.

What say that "renegotiation" said that the US will stay in NAFTA if Mexico pay their "fair share" of the cost of the wall?

You'll never guess what might happen.

My opinion is Trump is not a ruler of the leading party, he is a leader of the ruling party. I hear your points, but Trump is just one loud brash man, amongst the ruling party, the Republicans. My opinions are based on the daily dilution of everything about him and his policies, pre election. No one knows, time will tell, but we have heard the worst from him. From time to time he will lash out for publicity purposes, but for me, he is being ruled. He is not the or a ruler.

There has been a not of nonsense thrown around about this.

First of all, different places are looking at this very differently. If you read German news reports, its very dark, doom and gloomy Europe is worried about Trump's foreign policy. On the other hand there are a lot of positive reports out there.

I think this man is unpredictable. This may or may not prove to be a bad thing. However I do think he is reasonably intelligent, some have dismissed this. And I do think he is going to focus heavily on what is good for America. It's almost as if foreign policy has been an afterthought of his campaign. He is much more interested in changing things internally.

Lol. No. I'm not getting tied up in all this over hyped Trump stuff, he is overblown. The fear and horror is also overblown IMHO. I don't buy the fear and horror that he will act and do what his election showed.

And its not Trump's foreign policy. It's the Republican foreign policy. Of all the areas that he has little, some, or a bit of knowledge, foreign policy will be last

I think he is being given far too much credit. The election campaign was just that. he wont be running the show single handed or single minded.

You are talking as if this "party" would be able to manage Trump. This is the same party that was horrified by Trump but when they say the glimmer of hope of winning the presidency left all their worries behind and supported him. This is the party in which Trump bad-mouthed their most senior leader and yet he went meekly to support Trump. This party is being manipulated.

A great television series, based upon a great book, was 'The Winds of War'. It was on Jones at one point. Hopefully it will come around again. Definitely worth watching.

One of the threads was about an American Jewish professor in Italy who just couldn't believe things would turn out that bad, and the attempts of his family to get him out on time. I don't know that things will turn out that bad under Trump, but some people in the USA might want to keep their bags packed anyway. The point about this is if you can know it is too late before it is too late.
