I don't know. Did Labour promise a certain number of homes or a certain number of kiwibuild homes. I wouldn't think it would make any difference. Homes are homes.

Kiwibuild as a policy was going to deliver 100,000 homes in 10 years. There is no getting away from that.

Funny how all the Middlemore stuff died down once it turned out the Nats hadn't been told and in fact it was the Labour minister who ignored documents from CMDHB. Can't imagine why that slipped out of the press so suddenly at all.

Has that voice mail from Claire Curran shown up yet?

Ah, did I just hear correctly on the news? Colmar Brunton poll has <1% off respondents saying the government should prioritize tax cuts?!

But woe is the Geekzone users who missed out on theirs!!!! What about them!!!!

So if the free market delivers 28000 homes per year and the government is suggesting they can do a paltry 3000 then it's hardly surprising that it's been left up to the private sector. If they really wanted to make a difference they'd better do better than that.

What's the family's package? It's technically not a tax cut in the same way that the increase in petrol excise is not a 'new' tax

The government is not and should not be a building company. It is however an enabler and that should be it's task.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Huh? You might feel differently if you are a first home buyer. They are supposed to be affordable.

Your sarcasm and accusations are repulsive. I can think of *one* who wanted them, the rest of us "righties" were happy for National to can the cuts and spend it on social issues. How about you actually READ this thread instead of doing drive bys everytime you feel like it? There were pages of discussion around tax cuts across many threads next to no-one felt they were needed. This post feels like a first class trolling attempt.

I am sorry you think I am being intimidating, that wasn't in any way the intention.

I just want to make sure there is no misunderstanding. On that note I am prepared to agree to 3k houses under Kiwibuild by 31/12/18, but only as a total. Just because this guy said what he did doesn't mean we should fixate on his breakdown. It doesn't matter who does how much, just that the total adds up. So ... 3k Kiwibuild by the end of the year, regardless of who does it?

It wasn't the point I was trying to make, the point was this guy thought he could build 1K homes under this Government and I don't believe he could and I don't think another 2K would come from the rest of that same sector either. Having said that, I have so little faith in Labours ability to get this done, that I am ok to go with your definition of it. At worst I am donating $100 to charity.

For the record, I don't believe that prefab homes have decent longevity or reasonable resale value. I am happy for someone to show me if that isn't largely true. I don't support the building of slums.

By finished, I mean ready for occupation. Not 95% built.

Agreed. $100 to someone's registered charity at the end of the year.

Don't call people a jerk please. I don't want you to get banned before I collect.

Prefab parts can be very good - lots of European homes are made that way.

Also there is ICF (insulated concrete forms) system building like this, which is fast, effective and well proven.

Speed is the key to meeting this target: I have seen average looking 200 sq m houses with wooden framing take as long as 8 months per dwelling in this part of the country. Quite ridiculous.

I'll bite. I'd have wanted one. They would have been an extra $2k towards a house deposit for our first home. Or a month's rent. Could we get by without it? We are at the moment, so yes, easily.. But it irksome to see people who are already paying no net tax in WFF get even more while people who are putting these things off until they are affordable lose out.

No different to a normal hone. Generally they are small (around probably 80m) as they have to be transportable, but no lesser quality. And the reality is that affordable means small. There are a few economies that can be achieved through standardization and avoiding weather delays. But they are built to the same standard as any house, obviously fittings and fixtures are the choices of the clients so the end result can be cheap or quality.

I know there's a local one in taranaki http://manorbuild.co.nz but to achieve significant savings will require some innovative and different practices, like 3d printing etc. But the key will be to ensure that these ideas don't reduce quality or we will be building the slums of tomorrow.

Land will still be the biggest issue in Auckland.

...and there's the rub.

Kiwibuild policy was for 100,000 affordable homes, with at least half of them in Auckland.

Build 100,000 affordable homes across the country

Labour’s KiwiBuild programme will build 100,000 high quality, affordable homes over 10 years, with 50% of them in Auckland. Standalone houses in Auckland will cost $500,000 to $600,000, with apartments and townhouses under $500,000. Outside Auckland, houses will range from $300,000 to $500,000.

Labour
- Young Labour Camp debacle

---------------

Handled appropriately, and far better than John Keys totally inappropriate waitress pony tail pulling was when the excuse was 'he was just having *fun.*

---------------
- Deputy Leader (Kelvin Davis) shown to be completely out of depth

---------------

Again in your opinion.

These two replies basically kill *any* credibility you might have had. The fact you think the way Labour and the PM dealt with that camp was OK in ANY Way is a disgrace. Even the PM thinks it was badly handled. I am honestly lost for words as to how *any* rational adult could say it was appropriately handled.

If you think Kelvin Davis has a grasp on policy, you aren't paying attention. He couldn't answer the most BASIC questions in the PM's absence and his co-workers on the front bench were VISIBLY passing him notes which he was reading as answers. He was made deputy of Labour for one reason and one reason only. I think everyone knows why.

The rest of your post is almost equally bad. You can dismiss anything you don't like as "opinion" or "biased reporting", but it simply doesn't make it so.
