In 2004, there was a mock-convention called the "Shady National Convention"

It was held to celebrate the debut of Eminem's satellite radio channel, Shade 45.

Trump was the keynote speaker

Eminem expressed his regret at having collaborated with Trump, rapping, "wish I would have spit on it before I went to shake his hand at the event".

kingdragonfly: Apparently the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been investigating possible securities violations at Trump's social media company for some time, even before Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren formally asked the SEC to investigate.

And the highly appropriate name of Trumps's social media company?  ...

Digital World Acquisition Corp.

"One day we shall rule the world".

Sounds familiar?   😏

I guess there's a small win: Trump’s dubbed the “Office of the Former President”

Forbes: Matt Gaetz Says He’s Talked With Trump About Making Him Speaker Of The House

[Accused sex trafficker] Representative Matt Gaetz (Republican-Florida) said Tuesday he's spoken directly with former President Donald Trump about installing Trump as House Speaker if Republicans win control of the chamber in the midterms, reviving an idea he pushed over the summer that was largely dismissed by all but the most extreme-right fringes of the GOP.

When asked at a news conference whether he’d spoken with Trump about the idea, a beaming Gaetz—one of the hardest-right representatives in Congress—responded: “I have,” though he declined to go into further details.

Gaetz launched a fundraising effort in the summer after he promised to nominate Trump as speaker if the GOP retakes the House, though Trump associates denied at the time that he had any interest in the role.

The idea did gather some steam among spotlight-grabbing far-right Republicans, like Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who said she “would love” for Trump to be speaker and for House Republicans to impeach President Joe Biden.

Representatives at what’s Trump’s dubbed the “Office of the Former President” didn’t respond to a request for comment.

"...Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.)" both a complete pair of nutjobs, who shouldn't be allowed near any form of Government, ever. Matthew Gaetz is just an idiot (same for Ron Desantis).

Anyway I think Trump said previously he was not interested in being Speaker, having been a former President.

True. Trump's more an amplifier than a speaker. An old valve based one, with lots of distortion.

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix: About that Speaker Trump thing

today

This idea has been floating in the ether for a while now. ...

And it’s looking more and more like Republicans will at least have an opening for the slot, given that the 2021 election showed they’re primed to retake the House.

We can say two things:

  • One, this is still most likely a ploy to curry favor with Trump.

  • And two, if the former president pushed for it, who would Republicans be to deny him? ...

The downside is that being speaker is a big job - one involving plenty of nitty-gritty involvement in legislating, which Trump showed precious little interest in as president. ...

You can bet Republicans would prefer to have an experienced legislator in the job and will try to nudge Trump away from this idea.

They’d also prefer not to have this prospect as a campaign issue, given the political mileage Democrats could get out of it.

But nudging rarely works with Trump. ...

No surprise if he he ignores them & does it just so he can impeach Biden 10 times. In some ways Biden's ignorance make him deserving of having his legacy ruined by a circus.

When Biden said out loud that a prosecution of Trump would be "bad for the country" it reinforced his old school notion of [foolish] American pride being paramount, more important than taking out the trash. The bullies are running the show, and democrats aren't ruthless enough to deter them.

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix: Why Trump’s former chief of staff is suing the Jan. 6 committee

today

One Trump ally - Steve Bannon - is staring at potential jail time for not sharing with Congress what he knows about the extent to which the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol was premeditated.

Another, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, is doing everything he can to avoid that while also not cooperating with the special House committee ...

Meadows said he was going to cooperate with the committee. But this week, Trump’s former right-hand man did an about-face.

After handing over documents, he refused to show up to talk to lawmakers on Wednesday - and then he sued the committee.

Meadows’s argument is this: That he was cooperating with the committee - he handed over private emails and text messages - but lawmakers kept wanting to question him about things that are "off limits". ...

The committee countered with this: Meadows is ignoring a legally binding subpoena after writing a book in which he talks about Jan. 6. What’s more, some communications suggest the Trump White House could have been involved in the insurrection. ...

The committee has this recourse: It can try to hold him in contempt and get the Justice Department to prosecute him.

Legal experts say: The committee probably has the upper hand.

Some good news here:

https://edition.cnn.com/2021/12/09/politics/trump-documents/index.html

No big news. "However, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals paused its ruling for two weeks so that Trump could seek a Supreme Court intervention."

Which means waiting at least a few months if they hit the Supreme Court.

Or a matter of days if they do the same slapdown as his bogus big lie lawsuits.

Trump being himself.
  1. Don't read the thing, and interpret it yourself. Instead rely on someone to summarize it, preferably in a few seconds

  2. Never apologize, even when you were for endangering those around you.

  3. Attack the messenger

  4. Friends are just future enemies

  5. Talk like a low-class New York criminal

The Guardian: Trump rails against Meadows for revealing Covid test cover-up – report

In a blurb on the cover of Mark Meadows’ new book, Donald Trump calls the former congressman a “great chief of staff – as good as it gets” and predicts “a great future together”. The former president has also promoted the book to his followers.

Now the book is in the public domain, however, the former president reportedly thinks it is “garbage” and that Meadows was “f_cking stupid” to write it.

Influential members of the House committee investigating the deadly Capitol attack, meanwhile, have said Meadows may have undermined his own defence when seeking to block their inquiries.

The Chief’s Chief will be published next week. This week, the Guardian broke the news that according to Meadows, Trump tested positive for Covid three days before the first presidential debate with Joe Biden in September last year.

Trump effectively escapes punishment, but inexplicably publicly boasts / taunts the FBI

The Hill: Trump draws attention with admission he 'fired Comey'

Former President Trump is drawing attention after giving an interview in which he admitted to firing ex-FBI Director James Comey and suggested that doing so allowed him to remain in office for four years.

"A lot of people say to me, how you survived is one of the most incredible things," Trump told Fox News host Mark Levin in an interview that aired Sunday night.

"Don’t forget, I fired Comey. Had I not fired Comey, you might not be talking to me right now..."

Trump was appearing on Levin's show to promote his new book of photos from his time in the White House. But the interview devolved into a series of grievances and boasts about his four years in office.
...
Trump fired Comey in May 2017, which led to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller. He has offered varying explanations for why he removed Comey and has at times acknowledged the Russia investigation played a role.
