Another example of Russian technology at work: the Russian military is using US military satellites for their comms because their own stuff doesn't work.

Right - so the orange buffoon wants to end the war in Ukraine, so he arranges talks between Russia and the US...in Dubai, but doesn't even invite Ukraine? What a load of crap.

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/02/18/politics/trump-putin-deal-ukraine-analysis/index.html

The US president craves an early political triumph to fuel his claims to a Nobel Peace Prize. But an equitable end to the conflict may defy a quick fix since it poses existential issues for Ukraine and European security.

This tension was exacerbated by the president’s decision to exclude officials from Kyiv and European powers from US-Russia talks that took place in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. The meeting lasted more than four hours and was described by a member of Moscow’s negotiating team as “positive.”

A Nobel Peace Prize?? For him??? Spare me 🙄

Apart from the fact that there is absolutely nothing noble about the protagonist, I don't think the Swedish Nobel Prize Committee (in that case even Norwegians) is completely drunk under the table yet. Hermann Göring was another one of those who put himself forward for higher honours with foreign governments. 😁

You need to distinguish between deaths and casualties, I doubt Russia has 400K deaths.  Various pages talk about "killed or injured" and "losses", but there doesn't seem to be any consensus on deliberately-killed-to-deaths.

This week's Perun talk covers this issue with his usual insight and attention to detail.

Interesting interview with a journalist working on the front lines in Ukraine, with an emphasis on Russian manipulation of information sources.

Trump and Putin talking about the war, without Ukraine present is just wrong.

Vibes of Chamberlain and Hitler, all over again.

Russia saying Ukraine started the war, and Trump saying they don't have an elected government... That's just so much falsehood.

Using donkeys or pack animals in the military is not unusual for modern armies. There's at least 8 countries that do, including the US, China, and Russia.

But of course using pack animals because you don't have enough mechanized transport is unusual, even for countries like Indian and Columbia

Mike Pence finds a voice eventually.
Waits till its just passing cloud to shout at.

Goes back inside and hopes no one notices.
I did my bit.

He uses a Fox News article because there's no repudiation from the right-wings against that.

I always though Mike Pence was a weak and willing participant in Trump's misinformation-based government, but I do applaud him sticking his neck out on this.
Clever of him (or his team) to include a Fox article that cannot be disputed, because to do so would be to dispute the legitimacy of all of their spurious drivel.

I still fully expect there to be repurcussions for this insolence. Despite the fact that he's speaking the truth.

Looks the US is going to force a change of leadership. Perfect for Putin to install his puppet. But i hope it leads to no more war....

It'll simply mean the loss of sovereignty for Ukraine. Back to the USSR with you. Very sad and means the loss of life has been 100% pointless.

A friend commented today that Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is the most successful KGB officer ever. His trainers would be proud.

Has anyone considered nominating Trump for the Stalin Peace Prize?
