tdgeek: Russia v Poland,

Have you seen Poland's military setup?  I doubt Russia would get more than a few km from the border with what's left of its military before the Poles pushed them back.

And this is one big thing the Retrumplicans are missing, for a one-off investment of $150B they've mostly eliminated Russia as any kind of significant military power.

Edited to add: Poland absolutely thrashed Russia in 1920 and stopped their further westward expansion into Germany, no reason why they can't do it again.

No I haven't, tks for the heads up. From what I gather, while EU has contributed more $ equivalent, they lack the logistics right now. USA GDP vs EU GDP is very close but its one countries's military vs many EU seperate countries, logistically that is the issue.

The Poles (and others) can't set foot in UKR as thats "unfair" so Putin threatens nukes. Pretty lacklustre definition of unfair. Perhaps the West/Democracies are weak, they bow to Putins threats, due to the threat of nukes or a WW3. Its already WW3 given that MANY nations are in this war, just not feet on the ground pr planes in the air. Who will blink if UKR's friends are more active in the ground or the air?

Oooh, I just had a thought - imagine if the UK tried to invade/"reclaim" the US...I bet Trump would fall over himself to do something then! Especially if the UK applied Putin's logic of "it was our land before, we want it back now"?

Come to think of it - (on topic) what happened with Russia's invasion of Crimea back in 2014? I remember hearing about it when it happened, then it just dropped of the radar. Is it still part of Ukraine, or Russia, or...?

I often wonder what Trump and the great band of followers he has amassed would think of Alaska being taken by Russia.

You know, like Crimea was taken by Russia. And the many other territories.

Would they be willing to allow this to happen, so long as a "very good deal" happened and Trump got some cash out of it?

I'm thinking there would be a very swift tidal change - the American people would be taking up arms and volunteering to protect their freedumb.

I just can't get over how blinkered the Trump-voting American people are. They really do appear to be the stupidest people on earth.

I hadn't actually thought about Russia looking to reclaim Alaska - I bet the orange buffoon would fall over himself to "make a deal" on that one!

This is starting to make me think about that miniseries in the 80s, I think it was called Amerika where Russia actually takes over the US. I didn't see it but read about it many years later - this rings a bell.

You are all making a mistake: You are thinking rationally. Trump is not rational.

They do have a point of agreement: Trump would want to have Sarah Palin in DC, and so would the Russian.

But Trump last month ordered the opening Arctic Alaska waters to oil leasing.

Environmental groups say, as they did 8 years ago, that Trump violated the law by revoking past presidential leasing-program withdrawals of Arctic and other waters.

Denmark gives Greenland to the USA.

Trump replies "Denmark lied to the beautiful and great United States of America. Greenland is not green at all. It is covered in ice and snow and its beaches are totally worthless, Melania refused to take off her fur coat, not a single bikini in sight, so terrible. Nobody knew a place called Greenland could actually be white, and not in the kind of way that I like." and demands $500 trillion dollars.

Greenland, its not actually Denmarks to sell really.

Greenland is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark.
Has a parliamentary representative democratic system.
Although Greenland gained autonomy in 1979, it still relies on Denmark for financial support and management of certain areas such as monetary policy, defense, and foreign relations.

By all accounts Greenlanders are not stepping up to sell out.
America pretty much has 'do what ever it wants' rights over its airbase there for strategic defense already.

This is why Denmark found it so utterly stupid and laughable, that upset Trump first time he proposed it.

Given that this is Trump, he may well do.  "Alaska?  Never heard of them.  I've never met this state in my life".
