Funny how you never hear a peep from or even see Melania, Jared or Ivanka anymore.

He really is all on his own - except of course for his nut job son who can't wait for him to die so that he can run for President.

I know Ivanka and Jared categorically stated after Trump lost that they wanted to step away from politics and focus on their families. Melania was never much into politics either.

Also, I hope Americans really aren't as stupid as I'm thinking and I'm proven wrong: https://edition.cnn.com/2023/07/30/politics/trump-second-term-president-election-2024/index.html

The NY Times - The Very Private Life of Melania Trump  [free link]

26 July 2023

The former first lady has mostly retreated from public view - and steered clear of the campaign trail - while her husband fights to return to the White House and faces increasing legal peril.

Her absence is a striking difference from the start of the first Trump campaign, when Mrs. Trump descended the golden escalator in front of her husband at his campaign kickoff at Trump Tower.

The NY Times - Why Trump Is So Hard to Beat

31 July 2023

The first Times/Siena poll of the G.O.P. primary shows he still commands a seemingly unshakable base of loyal supporters.

In the half century of modern presidential primaries, no candidate who led his or her nearest rival by at least 20 points at this stage has ever lost a party nomination.

Today, Donald J. Trump’s lead over Ron DeSantis is nearly twice as large: 37 points, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll of the likely Republican primary electorate released Monday morning. ...

The MAGA base doesn’t support Mr. Trump in spite of his flaws. It supports him because it doesn’t seem to believe he has flaws.

EDIT

LOL. However, in the half century of modern presidential primaries, no candidate who led his or her nearest rival by at least 20 points has also been facing multiple criminal prosecutions.

Trump crowned? No faux King way!

Of that lot I think Scott is the sole candidate who isn't nuts. Admittedly he wants to return the US to the robber-baron era of the late 1800s, but at least he sounds rational in doing so.

The Democracts in contrast only seem to have one nutcase, RFK Jr. So the Republicans have as many sane candidates as the Democrats have crazy ones.

The NY Times - Judge Rejects Trump’s Effort to Short-Circuit Georgia Election Case

31 July 2023

A Georgia judge forcefully rejected on Monday an effort by former President Donald J. Trump to derail an investigation into attempts by Mr. Trump and his allies to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state - an investigation that is expected to yield indictments in mid-August.

Mr. Trump tried to get Judge Robert C.I. McBurney of the Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta to throw out evidence collected by a special grand jury, and disqualify the prosecutor overseeing the investigation, Fani T. Willis, the Fulton County district attorney. ...

The office of Ms. Willis, a Democrat, is expected to present potential indictments in the matter to a regular grand jury in the next few weeks.

Another bad day out of office.  🙄

I couldn't resist: (Stolen from a YT comment on a video)

A conman, a traitor and a rapist enter a bar.

The bartender asked; "The usual Mr. Trump?"

The NY Times - After Paying Lawyers, Trump’s PAC Is Nearly Broke

31 July 2023

Former President Donald J. Trump’s political action committee, which began last year with $105 million, now has less than $4 million left in its account after paying tens of millions of dollars in legal fees for Mr. Trump and his associates.

The dwindling cash reserves in Mr. Trump’s PAC, called Save America, have fallen to such levels that the group has made the highly unusual request of a $60 million refund of a donation it had previously sent to a pro-Trump super PAC.

The super PAC, Make America Great Again Inc., has already sent back $12.25 million to the group paying Mr. Trump’s legal bills ...

Another Trump bankruptcy in the making?   🙄

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/08/01/politics/trump-indictments-deadlock-democrats-republicans-fault-lines/index.html A good analysis here of how divided (and loyal) voters are to their respective parties.

BREAKING !!!

The NY Times - Trump Indictment - Trump ‘Spread Lies’ in Effort to Cling to Power, Indictment Says     [UNLOCKED LINK!]

Former President Donald J. Trump was charged with four counts in connection with his efforts to subvert the will of voters in 2020.

“Despite having lost, the defendant was determined to remain in power,” prosecutors wrote.

The indictment was filed by the special counsel Jack Smith in Federal District Court in Washington.

It accuses Mr. Trump of three conspiracies: one to defraud the United States, a second to obstruct an official government proceeding and a third to deprive people of civil rights provided by federal law or the Constitution.

Prosecutors said that Trump and his co-conspirators devised fraudulent slates of electors in seven states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Some of the fake electors, the indictment said, were “tricked” into participating in the scheme.

EDIT:  Read the Trump Jan. 6 Indictment    [UNLOCKED LINK!]

EDIT:  I have just watched Jack Smith broadcast live, outlining these allegations.  Trump should be very, very afraid.

BBC News - Trump's 2024 calendar is filling up fast

Donald Trump has been summoned to appear in court on Thursday to face new charges that allege he tried to overturn the 2020 election results.

"My office will seek a speedy trial," special counsel Jack Smith says.

The former president, who is running for re-election, faces a busy year ahead - both in court and on the campaign trail.

Here's an outline of the basic timeline of what awaits Trump in 2024.
