I certainly hope the latter happens, maybe Trump will lose his entitled attitude then.

If he didn't attend and his poll numbers were to start dropping, I could see why - has he actually released any policy at all? Apart from "going after my enemies"?

If not and he doesn't turn up to the debate, how would voters know what he stands for, apart from his self-centred interests?

Trump loses in court - again ...

Reuters - Judge finds Donald Trump's appeal in E. Jean Carroll case 'frivolous'

NEW YORK, Aug 18 (Reuters) - A judge on Friday ruled that former President Donald Trump had filed a "frivolous" appeal of his decision not to dismiss the first of writer E. Jean Carroll's two defamation lawsuits stemming from her claim that he raped her.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan also denied Trump's bid to put Carroll's case on hold while he appeals the June 29 decision, which found that Trump did not deserve absolute presidential immunity for calling her a liar.

"Mr. Trump has not provided a single reason for the court to find that there is any likelihood that he will succeed on appeal," Kaplan wrote. "This court certifies that the appeal itself is frivolous."

Some polling tidbits:

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4156052-christie-sees-path-in-new-hampshire-to-beat-trump/ >> okay, it's only a few polls in one state. But, I'm cautiously optimistic

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-indictments-polls-tell-gop-doesnt-want-hear-rcna100631 >> despite what Republicans would like to think, outside of the MAGA crowd, most American voters (especially a lot of Independents) think Trump did indeed commit at least one major crime.

Roger Stone has proudy claimed to be a dirty trickster.

He's also called himself a rat f__ker, because he's a big fan of Nixon, when the slang came into being, of people involved in the Watergate scandal. It also means someone who engages in sabotage and dirty tricks.

Trump famously pardoned Roger Stone. His charges were related to trying to be a middleman between WikiLeaks (Julian Assange) and the Trump campaign.

Roger Stone will likely see federal charges for Jan. 6, election interference.

GIULIANI: "TRUMP COULD NEVER HAVE GOT SO MANY INDICTMENTS WITHOUT MY HELP"

NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—Fuming about his unpaid legal bills, Rudolph Giuliani has claimed that Donald Trump could never have garnered so many indictments without his help.

“Those indictments didn’t happen all by themselves,” the former New York mayor told Fox News. “It took a village, and that village was me.”

Giuliani said that it was “particularly hurtful” that he had not been remunerated for obtaining Trump’s indictments since they have been so pivotal to the former President’s burgeoning lead in the Republican Presidential primary.

“Thanks to those indictments, he’s leading Ron DeSantis by double digits,” Giuliani said. “Now, I’m not making a threat here, but maybe if Trump doesn’t pay me, then I go to work for DeSantis as his lawyer. Yeah, maybe I'll do that. After a pinch or two of Rudy magic, you just watch those indictments roll in.”

How poetic. When this rat is getting f__ked in jail, the gang bangers can gaze into the eyes of Richard Nixon!

Rolling Stone : Roger Stone Recorded Details of Fake Electors Plot Days After 2020 Election: Report

Yes Roger Stone, a big Proud Boys sponsor or real leader ?
Looks like a number of them will end up doing jail time for Roger.
He is apparently still butt-hurt that Nixon 'eventually' did the right thing and stepped down.

He's ok, he has his pardon. Though if there is a new different charge its all on.

He got a pardon ahead of the other Trumplican cronies who were begging in mass for pardons.
So Roger Stone is someone special in all of this.

*Excerpt...

THE DEADLY REASON REPUBLICANS ARE SUCKERS FOR FAKE NEWS

“Multiple recent studies show that Republicans are as much as 8.5 times more likely to both believe and share fake or false “news” with others than are Democrats.

And it’s not limited to things that are overtly political: Republicans were more likely than Democrats to reject basic science about Covid, and thus died of the disease at much higher rates than Democrats.

Even when their lives and their families’ lives are at stake, Republicans let themselves be suckered into believing things that are easily proven false. It’s gotten so bad that Republicans were over 400% more likely to be banned from Twitter than Democrats.

Why is this? It turns out there are several reasons.

First, conservatives are more vulnerable to listening to and believing people who present themselves as authority figures. This tracks back to George Lakoff’s finding that conservatives are most comfortable in a world that’s run along “strict father” lines, while progressives prefer a “nurturing family” model of society and politics.

While a strict father limits freedom, he also provides a sense of safety: “Father will protect and take care of you.” Putting your trust in authoritarian figures diminishes the complexity of life: there’s less to have to know or worry about if you believe that “father” has it all under control.

But it also makes conservatives more vulnerable to believing anything that “father” tells them.

Second, there’s more conservative misinformation out there than there is liberal misinformation. Thus, conservatives are more likely to be exposed to it and to share it.

To a large extent, this flows from the conservative worldview being more adolescent, narcissistic and “me-centered,” with the myth of the “rugged individual” at its center…”

This has been heavily studied in the context of what makes people vulnerable to right-wing authoritarianism (RWA), e.g. the diagnostic scale for RWA lists:

- Ethnocentric, a strong commitment to their in-group.

- Fearful of a dangerous world.

- Self-righteous.

- Aggressive when authority figures give them the green light.

- Biased, prejudiced against racial and ethnic minorities, non-heterosexuals, women.

- Contradictory beliefs, so thinking is full of double standards.

- Poor reasoning skills, they like the conclusion and ignore whether the rgument makes any sense.

- Dogmatic, beliefs descend from authorities, no ability to deal with facts showing that they're wrong.

- Dependent on social reinforcement of their beliefs.

- Limited exposure to contrary viewpoints.

- Easily manipulated.

- Weak power of self-reflection, no insight into why they think what they do, "Reasoning will never make a Man correct an ill Opinion, which by Reasoning he never acquired" - Jonathan Swift, 1721.

The diagnostic predates Trump by more than two decades, but do the traits listed in there seem familiar?

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, there's more trolling of conservatives because conservatives are more trollable. For example in one interview with a (registered Democrat) troll farmer he pointed out "We've tried to do similar things to liberals. It just never worked, it never takes off. You'll get debunked within the first two comments and then the whole thing just kind of fizzles out". OTOH you pretty much can't come up with a story so crazy that US conservatives won't fall for it.
