The truly awful thing about Trump and those who support him is their willingness to resort to violence to get their way. Please don't follow their example.

The NY Times - Talk of a Trump Dictatorship Charges the American Political Debate   [unlocked link]

09 Dec 2023

When a historian wrote an essay the other day warning that the election of former President Donald J. Trump next year could lead to dictatorship, one of Mr. Trump’s allies quickly responded by calling for the historian to be sent to prison.

It almost sounds like a parody: The response to concerns about dictatorship is to prosecute the author.

But Mr. Trump and his allies are not going out of their way to reassure those worried about what a new term would bring by firmly rejecting the dictatorship charge. If anything, they seem to be leaning into it.

If Mr. Trump is returned to office, people close to him have vowed to “come after” the news media, open criminal investigations into onetime aides who broke with the former president and purge the government of civil servants deemed disloyal.

When critics said Mr. Trump’s language about ridding Washington of “vermin” echoed that of Adolf Hitler, the former president’s spokesman said the critics’ “sad, miserable existence will be crushed” under a new Trump administration. ...

So you're saying that Americans don't want a Dictator or a King? I hope you're right.

The Guardian - Blow to Biden as poll shows Trump in lead for 2024 presidential election

09 Dec 2023

Donald Trump has nudged ahead of Joe Biden in national polling for the 2024 presidential election, a survey published on Saturday revealed, a day after the US president branded his predecessor as “despicable” at an event in California.

The Wall Street Journal poll shows Biden with the lowest approval rating of his presidency, a finding broadly in line with other recent studies that have sparked concern in Democratic circles less than a year before voters go to the polls.

It shows Trump leading Biden by four points, 47% to 43%, the first time this survey has shown that the former US president is favored in a head-to-head test of the likely 2024 White House matchup, the WSJ said.

When five potential third-party and independent candidates are included, drawing a combined 17% support, Trump’s lead expands to six points, 37-31.

Warning:  Biden's 'despicable' sounds dangerously similar to Hillary Clinton's 'deplorables'.  🙄

Bear in mind though that the election is still just under a year away. A lot can change in that time. I saw an article recently (which I can't find at the moment) that basically said polls this far out from the election aren't worth much. Closer to the time is a different story however.

I'm waiting to see what Allan Litchman says, I'll be interested to see his predictions for 2024.

Blase J. Cupich is a mid-west US Roman Catholic Church cardinal. He spoke on gun voilence in Chicago shortly after Trump was made president.

During a question and answer period after his speech, he was asked about "America's crisis in leadership?"

He replied, "we are a democracy, and we get the leaders we deserve because we elect them," when pushed about how he feels about President Donald Trump's first six months in office.

"We have to become involved in the political process if we don't like it, we can change it," he added.

"Leaders we deserve" have become a bit of a battle cry by progressives.

freitasm: And yet, some Americans will vote for things their forefathers fought against.

It has always amazed me that the very people that someione like Trump despises (the working class, blue collar "middle America" voters) are the very ones who support him and buy into his rhetoric. despite his inability to make America great again, last time around.
THere are still small towns that look like they've been abandonded, homelessness in big cities and small, crime and inaccessible healthcare; but somehow that's Obama's fault and Biden has made it worse - ecen though the Orange Avenger never changed anything for the better.

Blows me away.

It is ironic that the supposed foreign agents got Biden elected when we all know that these agents would much rather get their useful idiot elected.

Off subject, but the Russians government really dislikes Biden.

From 2019

"It’s going to take a hell of a lot of work to make up for all the damage he’s done internationally and nationally

Putin's network of thugs and co-conspirators are going to continue to try to undermine our democracy in the meantime.

Imagine what he can do in another year. Imagine what can happen to Ukraine."
