Interesting that you say that. A slightly older friend said exactly the same thing - he does not trust him! National need some young blood in order to attract the younger voter.

Yeah, there is something... Shifty about him, and this as a National supporter.

I'd prefer not Paula Bennett.

I'd prefer Bill English.

I am not convinced that National voters, even young ones, are that worried about the age of a candidate. We won the largest party vote very comfortably, a couple of percentage points more and National would have led alone, unheard of for a 4th term.

A couple of small tweaks probably would have secured it, under BE. Those who say he is old and borning are just as bad who those who called Jacinda "young and pretty". Substance is what matters. Experience and knowledge and a proven ability to lead.

Simon Bridges is pretty smart though, he needs to work on a couple of things, not sure I could put my finger on it.

Losing leaders seldom survive in politics, I feel National should stay with the status quo but alas feel they will go for a change before the next election. However for now New Zealand has the best option for PM in place with Jacinda Ardern.

IMO she isn't even close to the best choice. She isn't even the best choice within her own party!

I'd take Grant Robertson over JA every day of the week, twice on Sundays!

But I'd take almost any National MP over either of them.

Thanks to JA, we will now have the worst choice of PM in for at least 6 weeks.

I keep getting the feeling that National will implode in the next two years. They will select someone like Stephen Joyce or God forbid Judith Collins as leader. They will ensure that the current coalition will win the next election.
National will then wake up and find decent leader.

It's a bit weird. Having been almost invisible since the election, they are *still* polling above Labour.

Implosion would seem a little strange. I'd like to see them taking to Labour to task a lot more, God knows there is plenty of material to work with!

I can't imagine the harm Labour could do in 6 years considering what's already happened in the few months since they were given power.

Coincidentally, David Farrar just posted a list today that will enlighten.

I’ve compiled my own list of some of their achievements in their first 100 days:

Announced a target for reducing child poverty that would be less than National achieved since 2011
Killed off the Kermadecs marine sanctuary
Delayed fishing monitoring which protects Maui’s dolphins
Jeopardised EU trade deal with move towards a deal with Russia
Introduced a law to allow party leaders to expel MPs from Parliament
Refused a law change to allow parents to share paid parental leave
Appointed fewer women Ministers than under National
Undermined Stats NZ neutrality
Upset Australia on Manus Island
Gossiped about Trump creating global headlines
Lied over the Speaker’s election
PM said capitalism was a blatant failure
Appointed a Minister for Children who is pro smacking
Appointed a Minister of Defence who wears unauthorised medals, even after being told not to

See, that's just silly, the other stuff is facts.

You could add to that, that Labour has trashed employment relations with it's return to unionist NZ from the 1980's, it's repeal of the 90 day trial for companies over 20 users, and removal of the employment balances that National had put in, to make employment relations more fair.

Fair by Labours approximation seems to be, to make employers squirm as much as possible, squeeze as much money as they can from them and give it to the employees. This comes from the fact none of them have ever had to pay staff from their own pockets.

They don't understand that good staff are a companies best assets, but a bad employee can take down a small business pretty much entirely on their own.

They promised to consult with small business over these changes, but didn't.

They also did not put in the limits to employment disputes payouts, or mediation which is legally binding and where no lawyers were allowed to be present.

They aren't done yet, there is widely understood to be much more the unions, who essentially ARE Labour, intend to wield much more power.

This will ultimately push businesses out of New Zealand and into regions where NZ will not benefit.

Labour were warned (by treasury and economists that raising the minimum wage so quickly would result in 28,000 job losses and still went ahead with it.

Yeah, you are right, she is doing a great job.

They won't implode Mike, but I hope they will have a major reshuffle over the next 2 years so as to reinvigorate. I agree that the two you mentioned would actually make me not vote next election.

They are only invisible because JA is still taking all the media attention. This will continue until people wakeup and realise that the huge amount she speaks, nothing worthwhile comes out.
