JayADee: Sounds like these packhouse workers know who Not to vote for.

Wow. People who do low paid and/or seasonal work on minimum wage find it hard to live on the earnings. Who knew?

I'm not sure minimum wage employment is actually supposed to be a lifestyle choice.

Are you serious? They clearly have no choice

Wow. These people are doing a necessary job- necessary so we can eat fruit and the farmers can make money, all of which keep the economy of NZ and international trade rolling along.  They're doing manual labour jobs which are probably one of the few jobs available in Gisborne. You think this is a lifestyle choice?

This is a job someone has to do! Surely if they are working 40 hours a week in a job society clearly needs doing they should earn enough to live on.

It wasn't always like this.

The majority of people have a choice where to work, those with less skills much less so (this is how the world works unfortunately)

The opportunity to upskill ones self is available to all New Zealanders, therefore so are the opportunities to not earning a minimum wage. I do wonder why people who chose to end up in these kinds of jobs seem to believe that's this is the governments fault, and that the minimum wage should be higher.

At least with the minimum wage where it is there is still an incentive to better ones self, and upskill ones self. A higher minimum wage will take away that incentive.

Yes, they can take time off to look into that, time off to study, time off to look for another job. But many cant as thy work two jobs, have families and/or dont have the IQ to progress too far. You make it all sound so easy, but for many of these it isn't, lack of money is a barrier.

Somebody has to do these jobs. Why do we devalue them? We didn't always.

Why do all of those things once you have a family already? And why on earth have a family if you working 2 jobs? Sounds like a lot of poor choices have lead up to this, therefore now its a government/taxpayers problem.

You really need to grow up, or get a heart, or talk out the other end, or something.

So quick to shoot down a different opinion to your own once again.

If you are not happy with where you are in life then there are plenty of opportunities to do something about that, sometimes it just starts with a change in ones attitude.

Of course every disabled child and adult can change their life, can be what ever they want to be in your little piece of fantasy. I find your attitude very distasteful and insulting to all those who can't for multitudes of reasons fit your view of the world and those people who work tirelessly to try and help them. I don't know if you are genuine or trolling and frankly it does not matter your writings here show you have no real world experience or and affinity to what is around you.

I would not class your comment as an opinion. FUG and manners prohibit me form giving it an adequate description.
