I'd love to be wrong, but I am thinking Trump is going to f_ck up so badly.

I suspect he already has - many times.  We just don't know the truth yet.

No suspicion needed. All those secret tapes didn't get him. All the open bigotry didn't get him. I'm guessing his blatant nepotism isn't gonna affect him.

When he stuffs up, my guess is nothing will happen. If required, the KGB will save him.

The only way to stop these people with magical powers is if the CIA decides to. Who knows he's already installed some mole in the CIA and the FBI, if not he's in the process of doing so.

<snip>  I don't remember anyone thinking or saying that Bush would end the world before he was elected president.

Neither do I.

But Bush and Trump have completely different personalities - Trump is much more dangerous and unpredictable.

After the last 24+ hours I hereby unreservedly state that I now believe Donald Trump to be an evil, dangerous ill prepared, dishonest potential tyrant  and the biggest threat to democracy and freedom in the last seven decades. May God help us.

Another day - another twitter outburst from the soon-to-be most powerful person in the world:

The answer to that question is no - but we're living in a post-truth world, used by none other than "Birther in Chief" Donald J Trump in an election campaign with the support of Breitbart etc, who haven't acted totally differently from Der Stürmer in Nazi Germany.  And hey - some of your supporters have been shouting "lügenpresse" at journalists.

How wonderfully ironic it would be to see liar in chief - President Donald J Trump,  taken down by "Golden Showergate" while crying "it's not fair".

Meanwhile, the president elect-seems to have quietly conceded about the DNC hack :  “I think it was Russia” — though a few minutes later he said "perhaps it was another country".

If there is actually any truth to the golden shower report, it displays a truly disturbing and alarming pathology in the next leader of the 'free' world.

Not he nor any of his predecessors have been, are, or will be the leader of the free world. They are only the President of one nation. That is a title that really irks me.

Fully agree. And, as he is not a dictator, his ramblings and ideas are just that, unless supported by the Republican party. Everything that happens from him, will be after widespread meetings and discussions of his advisors and the party. The things he can do himself are to rant and embarrass the US when he talks about other countries, backtracks (which is now common for him). IMHO his bark is worse than his bite. But in late 2020, he will be out, maybe sooner.

How can you give any credibility to golden shower gate? Have you read it? It's just more fake news.

It would be very naive though to assume that NZ's position in a geopolitically complex world where in most cases NZ and the USA have had close ties and allegiances, that a fundamental shift in the USA (potentially becoming isolationist and less tolerant) won't have significant impact on and within NZ.

Trump's isolationist ideas - which do seem to have popular support in the USA to "Make America Great Again" - have a parallel with Nazi Germany's "four year plan".  The US is actually in a much better position than Germany was to achieve autarky.  They're potentially self-sufficient in almost all resources (except IIRC cobalt metal which they need to import and for which they are the world's largest consumer - so they have built up massive strategic reserves).

Bottom line - the rest of the world needs the USA, the USA doesn't really need the rest of the world. I suspect that Trump is well aware of that.

I think this is 2015, maybe up to June 2015. US is about 10% of our top 10 partners. It would not take too great a % increase to merge that into other partners

Table didnt format, Export, Import, Total

Top 10 trading partners Country Exports NZ$ (millions) Imports NZ$ (millions) Total trade NZ$ (millions) Australia 12,994 11,333 24,327 China, People's Republic of 10,342 9,454 19,796 European Union 8,098 11,521 19,619 United States of America 7,920 8,012 15,932 Japan 3,617 3,332 6,949 Singapore 1,443 2,859 4,302 Korea, Republic of 2,085 2,179 4,264 Malaysia 1,154 1,968 3,122 Thailand 939 2,072 3,011 Taiwan 1,201 776 1,977

I don't "believe it" but it's not "fake news".  If it's incorrect (probably) then it's real news exposing an incorrect intelligence report.

None of the mainstream news media who Trump accuses of disseminating "fake news" claim that it's verifiable - in fact they go to extremes to point out that it's not verifiable.

IMO - it's hilarious.

If Trump had issued a simple denial - instead of going on the warpath against the media - it would have probably disappeared off the front pages.

Instead, he's getting a good dose of his own medicine.  Karma.

That makes them part of the free world not leaders of the free world. Why the US, why not Germany, Great Britain, Canada?
