The issue with the USA is that despite trade the world is generally reliant on its economy. If the USA goes into economic depression we all do. It is the largest economy in the world and so much of the worlds financials are tied to the US dollar. I am convinced Trump will cause a financial crisis within the next 12 months due to his arrogance and lies rather than a deliberate act.

If there is actually any truth to the golden shower report, it displays a truly disturbing and alarming pathology in the next leader of the 'free' world.

Not he nor any of his predecessors have been, are, or will be the leader of the free world. They are only the President of one nation. That is a title that really irks me.

Whilst I agree with this (and would go further and question whether they're even the leader of a free nation), I must point out that @Rikkitic enclosed the word "free" in quotes... I read that as a sardonic, sarcastic use of the term.

Yeah I saw the commas, Rikkitics post reminded me though how much the Leader of the free world thing irks me. Now I agree that the US contributes heaps and the US service men and women have sacrificed and sacrificing immensely to keep the free world free, but so is the UK

Australia, France, Germany and many others including Aotearoa.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Stan: How can you give any credibility to golden shower gate? Have you read it? It's just more fake news.

I don't "believe it" but it's not "fake news".  If it's incorrect (probably) then it's real news exposing an incorrect intelligence report.

None of the mainstream news media who Trump accuses of disseminating "fake news" claim that it's verifiable - in fact they go to extremes to point out that it's not verifiable.

IMO - it's hilarious.

If Trump had issued a simple denial - instead of going on the warpath against the media - it would have probably disappeared off the front pages.

Instead, he's getting a good dose of his own medicine.  Karma.

He really needs a new press advisor and do some remedial training on how to do it.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I think this is 2015, maybe up to June 2015. US is about 10% of our top 10 partners.

Here's a snip/image (click it for source).

Yes I agree that the total US:NZ trade is only about 10% of NZ total foreign trade.  But global trade is intertwined, and in commodities particularly, there are large swings in price when there are small imbalances in supply:demand.

If we lost the USA as an export market, then presumably the rest of our trading partners would also be losing the USA, the impact would compound.

The 'leader of the free world' tag is something Americans have ascribed to themselves at least since the second world war. Yes there was an element of sarcasm in my use of the label but I was also referring to the power and influence that country still wields. I find it very scary that a deranged psychopath is about to be put in charge of it.

Agree. It wouldn't happen overnight, but in the long term, partners will soon identify products that they prefer not to get from the US and look at making/growing them elsewhere. As it is, if we get tariffed for our exports to the US, we can accept a price differential medoium term, in the hope to become less dependent. And the US will off course want a great deal for them, so best to walk way

Asia and Australia is where we need to concentrate and remain competitive. We need to try much harder with China and India and stop our habit of pissing them off every so many months.

What's next? "Libtard Snowflakes"? "Sore Losers"?

That's the usual that comes after Trump apologists type "fake news".

edit: Oh, "fake news" has to be ALL CAPS!!1!

That makes them part of the free world not leaders of the free world. Why the US, why not Germany, Great Britain, Canada?

Germany has the Liberal West’s Last Defender aka Chancellor of the Free World.

(Polling suggests that she's still got 55% popular support for a fourth term, but in these dark days, making guesses is a dangerous business)

Stan: How can you give any credibility to golden shower gate? Have you read it? It's just more fake news.

There is nothing about the CNN report that is "FAKE NEWS". This is basically true for the Buzzfeed report to, as well as other media reporting.

CNN reported that a document was being examined by the FBI (acknowledged as true) and that document had a number of assertions that all have called out as unverified. They reported that a summary of that document was presented to both the President and President elect, as well as a small number of senior officials. No one has denied these facts.

The report itself is not fake, nor is the media reporting of the existence of the report or the fact it's being looked into further. The source of the report is said to be considered credible.

HOWEVER

The allegations or assertions contained WITHIN the report may be 100% false, 100% real or somewhere in between, but CNN and others have made this VERY CLEAR in their reporting. Even Buzzfeed did.

Buzzfeed are probably the only ones worthy of any criticism here, but it's not for posting "fake news", its for posting the source information that, while called out as unverified, is likley to be assumed by some as fact.

A real report that has unverified assertions, reported as such, does not fake news make.

Now now, you are just trying to confuse the American people. Stop using big words like that. It's fake news I tell you, all the news that is against me is all fake. all Fake. all fake news. You understand? I repeat, fake.
