Basically so far the main method seems to be to converse with them at their level agree with their point of view don't say thing that runs too counter to their point of view and able drop in some "truth bombs" which will eventually verified by the recipient. Slowly sewing seeds of doubt.

Get enough doubts and they start to come to their own realisation.

OK. The 'radical left' must be doing something wrong. So many truth bombs have been dropped on Trump his credibility should resemble 1945 Dresden yet 50% of americans still support him.

Correct they are doing it all wrong. Why on earth would the MAGA crowd believe anything the left has to say. After all everything they say is full of lies.

The information has to be coming from a source that's seen as being aligned with them, not the "untrustworthy " left.

Victory for Jack Smith, who oversee the criminal investigations into Donald Trump's actions regarding the January 6 U.S. Capitol attack, and Trump's handling and storage of government records, including classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Musk seems to very selective when it comes to the first amendment, the freedom of speech (among other rights).

Similar to how Trump is very selective about when presidential elections are valid.

Supreme Court won't step into dispute over Jack Smith's efforts to get Trump's X information: CBS News

The Supreme Court said Monday it will not step into a dispute involving special counsel Jack Smith's efforts to obtain records from former President Donald Trump's account on Twitter, now known as X, and keep the social media company from telling him about the demand for the information.

In turning away the appeal from X, the court leaves intact a lower court decision that upheld a nondisclosure order that said Smith's request for Trump's social media records must be kept secret for six months.

The justices have sidestepped another high-profile legal battle arising from the special counsel's prosecution of the former president for allegedly attempting to subvert the peaceful transfer of power after the 2020 election.
...
The court fight between Smith and X, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, dates back to January 2023, when the federal government obtained a court-authorized warrant for information associated with Trump's account, @realDonaldTrump, as part of its election interference probe.

U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell ordered the company, then known as Twitter, to turn over the requested data to Smith. She also prohibited Twitter from disclosing the warrant to anyone for 180 days after determining that the government had grounds to believe that notifying Trump would put its investigation at risk.

Twitter withheld the records while it challenged the nondisclosure order, which the company claimed violated its First Amendment right to communicate with Trump. But Howell ultimately concluded that the order was valid and imposed a $350,000 civil contempt sanction on the company because of its failure to hand over the records on time.

Twitter eventually turned over to Smith 32 direct messages tied to Trump's account, which prosecutors said was a "miniscule proportion" of the material they sought. The nature of the messages is unknown, including whether they were drafts, sent from Trump's account or received by the former president. The social media company said it also produced to Smith numerous other data sets.

Musk's company appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, which in July 2023 found the nondisclosure order comported with the First Amendment. While the appeal was pending, the district court allowed Twitter to notify Trump of the warrant.

Wow...

This has been talked about even while he was still President.

https://www.newsweek.com/trump-fire-and-fury-smart-genius-obama-774169

And here his attention span (he is called the 2 minute man) and his distain (or as alluded to in other publications, his inability) to read detailed briefings.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/trump-rarely-if-ever-reads-his-daily-intelligence-briefing-msna1066626

I remember an article where a teacher who had observed Trump came to the conclusion that he exhibited a lot of traits of someone who was basically illiterate and covered this up by bluff and bravado.  I'll see if I can find the article online.

While looking I found this.

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/1/11/1824456/-Serious-question-Is-Trump-Functionally-Illiterate

The question of Trump’s literacy was seriously raised over Christmas when General Mattis wrote a scathing rebuke of Trump while handing in his resignation… a rebuke that took Trump three days to react to with his usual toddler-like belligerence, not realizing he had been insulted until after it had been reported on TV.

Apparent lack of literacy of Trump

If you don't want to deal with the subtlety of your Religions Mysticism and origins.
You want pure literal, simple, ethos that supports your superiority.
Anything to do with Facts, Science, vaguely Intellectual is an affront.

You need someone to hate, something to hate, to be an 'absolutist' untroubled by nuance.

Absolutist Elon Musk knows he is lying with his distortions and projection of his and Trumps own worst desires on others.
Given an audience that simply does not care, he just goes from extreme to extreme.
It was Trump himself that raised that he would ensure you will never need to vote again, Musk knows this.

You don't even need to read your Trump Bible.
Your preacher is pointing out the few passages and a context that suits them.
There is plenty if you would rather 'smite' and take 'eyes for eyes', than forgive.
Of course Angels from Africa will come to save your new Messiah.

Ignorance is celebrated.
Your popular Youtuber like Tim Poole and many others give license to just absorb propaganda without question and ignore facts. The one time I peaked at his stuff he was going on a rant about what appeared to be the blessings of ignorance, being simple and avoiding education.
Something Pol Pot could get behind. :-)

Trump apparent illiteracy, dismissal of facts, openly cheating at Golf and everything else, its like permission to be your worst self, its what successful people do. So it goes down very well with his supporters.
Though I think its more deliberate, if its a bill he is underpaying, or a headline about him he can choose to read, otherwise its for others.

This 5min clip is worth a watch. It looks like a cartoon but it's actually a quick explanation of the GOP's fall and Trump's rise.

Trump is expert at dissing unfriendly opinions (see 'alternative facts'). Unfavourable commentary from his own side is also weeded out because it is from RINOs. So his supporters won't believe anything from the left or the right, which  might explain his continued support.

On the up side, he is old and time will solve this problem eventually. Surely his diet will catch up with him soon enough.

In a similar vein: https://newrepublic.com/article/186836/trump-mental-fitness-cognitive-decline-new-york-times

The...article puts it on the line: “He rambles, he repeats himself, he roams from thought to thought—some of them hard to understand, some of them unfinished, some of them factually fantastical. He voices outlandish claims that seem to be made up out of whole cloth. He digresses into bizarre tangents about golf, about sharks, about his own ‘beautiful’ body. He relishes ‘a great day in Louisiana’ after spending the day in Georgia. He expresses fear that North Korea is ‘trying to kill me’ when he presumably means Iran. As late as last month, Mr. Trump was still speaking as if he were running against President Biden, five weeks after his withdrawal from the race.”

An interesting analysis on a piece in the New York Times around Trump's (obvious) mental decline, why it's hardly covered in the US media, yet when it came to Biden it was basically open season for the same topic.

Having read what's in the book I can see exactly how these "working class stiffs" as you call them put the likes of Trump up on a pedestal. Scary but true.

Interesting. Save us reading the book and point out the methods used.

It's in the linked Guardian review, although that seems to tell you most of what's in the book, not sure how he managed to spin it out to book length.  He may also be overplaying its effectiveness, when it comes to subtle propaganda Goebbels was the master, a mixture of light entertainment, news, information, and then just enough damning-with-faint-praise to raise doubts in the listener, "the Ministry of Supply would like to reassure listeners that there is no truth to the rumour that ...", that sort of thing.

A (IMHO) more interesting book by the same author is "Nothing Is True and Everything Is Possible", about the blurring of fact and fantasy in modern Russia.

Note that I said a source aligned with them. So not necessarily any right wing source either.

It may well be that a new MAGA news source has to be created. One on the face of it that out MAGA's the other MAGA sources. One that MAGA people will listen to. As it's credentials are established the truth bombs are subtly added. It's a long game. Russia and China are doing it now all over the world to influence public opinion. In the case of Russia to influence the outcome in Ukraine.

The NY Times - Trump Secretly Stayed in Touch With Putin After Leaving Office, Book Says

08 Oct 2024

Former President Donald J. Trump has secretly spoken with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia as many as seven times since leaving office, even as he was pressuring Republicans to block military aid to Ukraine to fight Russian invaders, according to a new book ["War"] by the journalist Bob Woodward. ...

The disclosures raise new questions about Mr. Trump’s relationship with Mr. Putin just weeks before an election that will determine whether the former president will reclaim the White House. ...

The predictable GOP response: “None of these made-up stories by Bob Woodward are true and are the work of a truly demented and deranged man who suffers from a debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

Radio NZ - Donald Trump didn't want The Apprentice released before the US election. It's coming to cinemas this week.

09 Oct 2024

The Apprentice is the semi-biographical story of Donald Trump's ascension through New York's real estate scene in the 80s, and his relationship with lawyer/mentor Roy Cohn. Since its premiere at Cannes in May, it has been a lightning rod for controversy.

With an election looming, Team Trump has called the film everything from "pure fiction" to "election interference", even going as far as to threaten a defamation lawsuit.

The Apprentice comes out in New Zealand cinemas on 10 October.
