They seem to be unwilling to target her as they did National before them, despite there being plenty of material over the past couple of months.

BTW @mikeb4 I see a little of what you say about Dai Henwood. Esp last couple of weeks.

I am not sure why TV3 are so left in their political leanings. Their 7 oclock show is very biased towards the left.

I think it's more than that. There seems to be an opinion among some that she is the second coming of Christ himself, and that she can do no wrong. I am a National supporter and I was plenty critical of them when I felt they made mistakes.

IMO Winston Peters has never acted like a Prime Minister :)

Careful Winston will sue you

He will be doing some acting over the next month or so, but I think it will be acting as a Capra aegagrus hircus

They can still vote with their feet. In other words, if we try to tax tourists too much. They will stop visiting NZ, or they will spend less time and money while here.

And it was also claimed that extra tourism could provide jobs to replace the jobs lost due to the oil drilling ban. But a tourist tax won't help that.

I think the tourism levy will only deter budget tourists and we could do with less of them and more high-spending tourists.

The govt has also increased the fees for great walk huts with tourists paying higher charges.

I agree with both policies - the tourist levies and the increased hut fees.

You have to prove your citizenship - licence or passport. I think this is when we pick up the hut passes. My partner does the admin. I focus on the practical stuff.

So you saying then that Permanent Residents, and people here on working visas are treated as tourists and need to pay premium price? That does not sound right as they are contributing to our tax system just like everybody else. Does not sound very fair to me.

I would presume that comment was joking. Didn't see it. Possibly some of this derives from some reactions to her election and pregnancy which were very unpleasant at times. Maybe it's an overreaction to the fact the vast majority of kiwis found that very unpleasant and don't want to hear any of that type of stuff continuing.

Sorry,a poor choice of words by me. You have to be living in NZ legally.

Except from https://www.doc.govt.nz/news/issues/great-walks-differential-pricing-trial-2018-19/

International visitors to New Zealand will pay a higher fee than New Zealand citizens or people who ordinarily live in New Zealand.

The lower fee will apply to those who are ordinarily resident in New Zealand ie. someone:

who holds a residence class or work visa; and
who has lived in New Zealand for six of the previous 12 months; and
for whom New Zealand is their primary place of established residence.

Proof of eligibility will be required for the New Zealand rate (such as a New Zealand drivers licence, utility bill or a copy of a passport).

New Zealand’s realm countries (Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau) will pay the New Zealand rate as these nationals are New Zealand citizens.

Some interesting observations from the last 24 hours: -

Greens campaigned on a crackdown on water bottlers. A Greens minister just approved (an an inward foreign investment) a large water bottling plant.

Labour (including Davis) vocally opposed double-bunking prison cells, criticised National for that policy. Labour (Davis) just approved a new prison extension that feature double bunked cells.

Every government, labour or national, right or left, can be rightly accused of telling lies, or failing to implement election promises etc. But never has there been a government who has so blatantly acted against or backtracked on their own election promises as this one.

This water bottling issue is just another nail in the coffin. As is the double bunking. I struggle to see how there is any support for them given their disregard for the voters who out them in parliament.

You forget one thing....the Minister whether its NZ First, Greens or LAbour has to follow the law..and she did. She also clearly said their needs to be a law change to stop it.

If we have spare water instead of letting multinationals exploit it we should be sending free of charge to areas of the world where clean water is just a dream.

No, we should create our own multi-national and sell it to the customers that the other guys would have sold it too and make some foreign exchange earnings...

Dai Henwood sets my teeth on edge. He's about as funny as root canal surgery, to boot.

I don't believe that water is a commodity that should be sold for profit. It is vital for life and water is a global resource that constantly circulates the planet so no one can own the rights to it.
