The lunatics are now running the asylum.
ajobbins:
Not to mention they don't want to pay any more for those goods made in the US - just somehow making them in America will cost the same as making them in lower cost places.
And of course, most of these stupid people are blissfully unaware that the likes of Amazon (i.e. American companies) will also continue to tip the low-skilled out of more and more work. We are heading inexorably towards a direction where a significant portion of the population will need to receive a massive degree and amount of wraparound, government support just to survive. And we will need to move beyond valuing people simply on the basis of their economic output and placing value on more "simple" things like someone being a member of the community and caring for elderly parents, for example. All of this will require more investment in things like adult training programmes, redistribution of income, higher tax rates, and so forth. None of these things will happen under a Trump presidency.
Really what these idiots have done is just throwing themselves over a cliff whilst singing kumbaya at the same time.
There you go... Home loans just got less affordable, mere hours after the new administration took over.
They're all for the people...

darylblake: Many are regretting it but when you have a campaign promise from trump to can a $900 per month Obama care payment which is almost as much as your mortgage, and you don't live in the most prosperous states then yeh it's very easy to see why he won.
The top tier is $553/month. The basic tier is $311 (source). If the family falls under a certain line the basic tier can go as low as $164/month - for the family.

Sorry I have to agree to dis-agree here. I don't believe I am spreading bad information. So using your OWN SOURCE which you linked above I am going to present the following paragraph:
And going on from here there is a GOLD plan which covers 80% of costs, and a Platnum plan which covers 90%. But the average run of the mill ACA people are signing up to the silver plan.
@freitasm Im not trying to have a personal dig at you, in most cases I entirely agree with you that Trump will most likely be a train wreck of a president, and its sad to see Obama go. Hell I would have voted for the democrats too had I had a chance to vote. Encouraging critical discussion is a good thing. What I was trying to do was to make a point that Trump will promise to abolish this policy, people believe him, vote for him. But in reality he cannot make it considerably cheaper and provide a better level of care. The real winners here are the drug companies with their astronomical fees.
Those are for people making US$110,000 a year. I am sure these people can complain but I am more worried about the people making below $60,000/year. And for those who make nothing and get insurance anyway.

Yeh, thats a fair call. I didn't intend to get too far off topic. What I think a big part of the problem is that the poverty line is set so low. So even if you make $49,000 per year you only get a small subsidy as well. And when you are making say $60,000 per year to feed a family, pay rent and all other living expenses then $350 a month is a LOT of money to you.
Anyway we are going to have to get used to Trumps rhetoric. I think he will actually get bored of being president. I mean taking a couple of days off as soon as you are sworn in, what does that say about your commitment to the job? In my opinion he is in it for the fame and attention. He said he wants to be a hands off president, where he lets pence, branon, tillerson, mattis and a few others do all the work.
I despise his entire team, bar "Mad Dog". I think he is a stable pick for defense secretary. George is definitely worth a read, he is a geo-political expert. https://geopoliticalfutures.com/trumps-mad-dog/

- Meet the Clarks. The Clark family comprises two adults and two children living in Orlando, Florida. The adults are 42 and 38, and both kids are minors. Neither parent uses tobacco.
- The total annual income for the household is $110,000, and the parents cannot obtain insurance through their employers.
- The Clarks have several options on the Marketplace for coverage, but they will not be able to get subsidies or tax credits because they earn more than four times the federal poverty line.
- For a Bronze plan on the Marketplace, the Clarks will pay $8,013 per year or approximately $668 per month for healthcare coverage. This number represents 7.28 percent of the Clarks’ annual income. The Bronze plan includes insurance for the whole family and covers 60 percent of the Clarks’ medical costs.
- For a Silver plan on the Marketplace, the Clarks will pay $9,909 annually or $826 per month. Silver plans cover 70 percent of medical costs.
And going on from here there is a GOLD plan which covers 80% of costs, and a Platnum plan which covers 90%. But the average run of the mill ACA people are signing up to the silver plan.

I dont want to meet the Clarks....as someone said the vast majority of Americans earn less then them...
Today I learned... that humans never invent time travel.

And all the LGBT pages.

As Donald Trump takes over the White House today, a number of folks on Twitter have been pointing out that many crucial pages on WhiteHouse.gov have disappeared, including those relating to climate change and the LGBTQ community. While certainly troubling to the many millions of Americans worried about how the incoming administration will handle such topics, what's happening on the White House website is little more than a transition -- every page that was up on the site under the Obama administration has been removed, not just ones relating to topics that the new president doesn't care about.

Yup.
The start of The Giant Leap Backwards.
Erase almost a decade of progress.
After reading the Trump's inauguration speech - I'm more convinced than ever that a great evil has just be thrust on the world.

I think you may have misread that. It happens with every presidency. Not part of an evil conspiracy against anyone.
I am not sure how much more convinced you could be, you were utterly convinced for the past 110+ pages already. Nothing could dissuade you.
Not that you are necessarily wrong, but your statement does seem redundant :)

If only the GOP would have let Obama have single payer rather than forcing him to let private insurance companies in the costs would have been as reasonable as they are in most other countries with socialised healthcare.

Not that you're proven wrong, but for that 110+ pages you've been arguing that once in power, his ultra-nationalist / alt:right agenda will be moderated.
There's no sign of that. In some ways it seems to be getting worse. He lied about divesting his business interests before Jan 20 - he hasn't done what he said he would.
Not that I expected he would - his "word" is worthless.
Your confidence that "it'll be alright" is so far not appearing as if it will be the case.
The west made that same mistake with Hitler.
This was an inspiring moment. I am sure Trump came up with this all by himself. Actually, wait... Batman's villain Bane said it first:

He only got in this morning, he has only been President for 12 hours or so, and we haven't really seen anything yet. (Apparently he doesn't start work for about another 36 hours)
I am sure he will make lots of mistakes, you guys have pored over every word he has said intently for 3+ months, surely if you had done the same with every President there would be plenty to criticise.
I don't like him, I don't agree with a lot of his policies, and I think he is so far doing very little to assure me of much, however, this doesn't mean he will start WWIII (to be fair it's been on the brink for a while IMO) or unleash Nuclear hell on everyone.
I am just interested to see what of his promises are kept and what he actually can and can't do.
It's not like I have any choice, I have no powers to de-elect him, or what not.
You and I are bystanders, wringing of hands, and analysis of every wrong step he makes, is going to make the next 4 years very long.
