We are heading inexorably towards a direction where a significant portion of the population will need to receive a massive degree and amount of wraparound, government support just to survive. And we will need to move beyond valuing people simply on the basis of their economic output and placing value on more "simple" things like someone being a member of the community and caring for elderly parents, for example. All of this will require more investment in things like adult training programmes, redistribution of income, higher tax rates, and so forth. None of these things will happen under a Trump presidency.

Really what these idiots have done is just throwing themselves over a cliff whilst singing kumbaya at the same time.

The Bronze plan includes insurance for the whole family and covers 60 percent of the Clarks’ medical costs.

@freitasm Im not trying to have a personal dig at you, in most cases I entirely agree with you that Trump will most likely be a train wreck of a president, and its sad to see Obama go. Hell I would have voted for the democrats too had I had a chance to vote. Encouraging critical discussion is a good thing. What I was trying to do was to make a point that Trump will promise to abolish this policy, people believe him, vote for him. But in reality he cannot make it considerably cheaper and provide a better level of care. The real winners here are the drug companies with their astronomical fees.

Yeh, thats a fair call. I didn't intend to get too far off topic. What I think a big part of the problem is that the poverty line is set so low. So even if you make $49,000 per year you only get a small subsidy as well. And when you are making say $60,000 per year to feed a family, pay rent and all other living expenses then $350 a month is a LOT of money to you.

Anyway we are going to have to get used to Trumps rhetoric. I think he will actually get bored of being president. I mean taking a couple of days off as soon as you are sworn in, what does that say about your commitment to the job? In my opinion he is in it for the fame and attention. He said he wants to be a hands off president, where he lets pence, branon, tillerson, mattis and a few others do all the work.

If only the GOP would have let Obama have single payer rather than forcing him to let private insurance companies in the costs would have been as reasonable as they are in most other countries with socialised healthcare.

He only got in this morning, he has only been President for 12 hours or so, and we haven't really seen anything yet. (Apparently he doesn't start work for about another 36 hours)

I am sure he will make lots of mistakes, you guys have pored over every word he has said intently for 3+ months, surely if you had done the same with every President there would be plenty to criticise. 

I don't like him, I don't agree with a lot of his policies, and I think he is so far doing very little to assure me of much, however, this doesn't mean he will start WWIII (to be fair it's been on the brink for a while IMO) or unleash Nuclear hell on everyone. 

I am just interested to see what of his promises are kept and what he actually can and can't do. 

It's not like I have any choice, I have no powers to de-elect him, or what not. 

You and I are bystanders, wringing of hands, and analysis of every wrong step he makes, is going to make the next 4 years very long.
