The first step of becoming a dictator is to render the checks and balances toothless.

So I'm watching closely the court orders would be followed or not. Apparently all the country's department policies have been overridden by his executive orders. If court orders are then ignored you have seen confirmation.

Overthrow him i hear you say ... Well if Russia has a hand in this and continues to help him, there is a guy that has had the kitchen sink thrown at him and he's still in power. Basher al Assad.

Different situation. Trump staying in power is in the hands of himself, and his party. Either impeachment or a strong measure of support against him by Senators and the GOP seniors. Seems relatively easy elsewhere to "overthrow" your party's leader, not sure about the US. But if the recopy judge gets his way, that could mean that Trump did not live up to his pledge to honour the Constitution. Read that on CNN today. Maybe he will fire that one as well.

Has he actually said he is banning Muslim people?

Trump campaigned on banning Muslim people from entering the US.

(New York, NY) December 7th, 2015, -- Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on. According to Pew Research, among others, there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population. Most recently, a poll from the Center for Security Policy released data showing "25% of those polled agreed that violence against Americans here in the United States is justified as a part of the global jihad" and 51% of those polled, "agreed that Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to Shariah." Shariah authorizes such atrocities as murder against non-believers who won't convert, beheadings and more unthinkable acts that pose great harm to Americans, especially women.

Mr. Trump stated, "Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension. Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine. Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life. If I win the election for President, we are going to Make America Great Again." - Donald J. Trump

So the complaints are about a politician doing just what he said he would do?
That's normally something people complain about when it doesn't happen!

I'll paste MF's recent post.

"It is how it was done more than what was done I think."

I think most people felt that he wouldn't follow through with much of what he said he may do, mainly because the policies don't really appear to be republican policies. The republicans have been in power for years, so I think many people just expected him to tow the party line, and his policies would get diluted.

Interesting perspective here, comparing the furore over some of the US actions with the complete lack of furore over similar actions in some EU states.

For example:

"Let me spell out the facts. Many European politicians treat migrants — and, in particular, Muslims — more disgracefully than they are being dealt with by Trump.
For example, Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, wants to build a ‘massive’ fence to stop refugees crossing into his country from the East. He calls migrants ‘a poison’ that Hungary ‘won’t swallow’."

Lets have some perspective here:

The US last year accepted 85,000 refugees.

Europe had more than a million that arrived.

Germany expected to take in 300,000 of those.

From what I can gather from the Trumps - the US is trying to make sure they don't accept anyone, unless they are good christians..

I saw a meme on facebook yesterday, something about certain countries ban Israelis from entering for the last 60+ years, and suddenly one country bans certain people from entering and it's a problem.

I'm not saying right or wrong, just something I read.

That is my view. But he has only implemented one real policy, the ban, and to uproar and misguided planning. Upsetting other countries as well, but it's mainly ranting, another black mark against him. He is digging a whole for him and his near cronies. 12 months and he is out

Six of the seven countries on the US list ban people travelling on Israeli passports from entering them.

Although (also from the article I linked to)

"The objectionable Orban is not alone. The Prime Minister of neighbouring Slovakia, Robert Fico, said last year that Islam had ‘no place’ in his country. He speaks of the need to ‘monitor every Muslim’ and won’t let a single Muslim refugee enter his country."

Where are the petitions? Where are the street protests? Where are the public denunciations by Merkel, Hollande etc of their neighbour and fellow EU member? Just saying..!

In principle, you are correct. In practice, the President of the United States carries a lot more weight (literally and figuratively) than the Prime Minister of Slovakia. The Internet is full of people who say a lot worse things than these two. What makes it matter is who listens.

Waiting to see. Until signed it's just a rumour. But "freedom of religion" shouldn't ever equate to "freedom to discriminate".

If you can only have freedom of religion on certain aspects, that's not freedom of religion.

It's funny how the left's claimed tolerance only extends to things they themselves tolerate. Where's their tolerance for other people's intolerance?

I don't see anything insane about deciding you do not want people from X country to enter your country - that surely is a right all sovereign nations have.

It'll probably be appealed and overturned - or implemented in another way.

BIGOT! ISLAMAPHOBE! NAZI!

You have to open the borders and be assimilated.
