I don't want to turn this thread into a religion debate but the underlying premise of the *original version of christianity is that everybody is bad beyond redemption - not one person has enough "good" in them. [Apologists like to point out that no other religion share that same bleak outlook.] Hence that would make perfect sense.
* don't confuse that with post modern interpretation and other new age movements
THRUSH: I wanted to ask about the travel ban on Muslims.
MCCARTHY: Yeah it's not a ban.
THRUSH: I'm sorry?
MCCARTHY: It's not a ban. The travel ban is not a ban, which makes it not a ban.
THRUSH: But you just called it a ban.
MCCARTHY: Because I'm using your words. You said ban. You said ban. Now I'm saying it back to you.
THRUSH: The president tweeted, and I quote, "If the ban were announced with a one week notice—"
MCCARTHY: Yeah exactly, you just said that, he's quoting you, it's your words he's using your words when you used the words and he uses them back it's circular using of the word and that's from you.
Geektastic:gzt:Geektastic: So, in essence we have shown that many countries regulate their borders, choosing who to allow in and who to deny access based on a variety of reasons.
And yet, when the President of the US decides that he needs to do it it's all wrong...
Denying visa holders and work permit holders who have already been vetted is a very extreme thing to do. There was no valid cause for that, whatsoever. That is why the order no longer stands.Stands for now, he'll just change the rules if need be.
If you want to alter your vetting procedures and make people submit to them I would say that was fine.
Rikkitic:Geektastic:At the moment we are getting the media reporting the loudest views as much as anything else, which tends to make viewers and readers think everyone shares that view.
That is a good point but it cuts both ways. Trump supporters tend to be very vocal, to the point of aggressiveness, about their support. Yet approval polls (admittedly by CNN) seem to indicate that he has one of the lowest ratings ever, certainly at this point into his term. Less than half of Americans think he is doing a good job, and that is almost unheard-of.
Going to be very interesting to see what Trump does about the situation in Ukraine....
I think it is courageous that all these people are publicly voicing their regret, if these are indeed genuine responses, and I applaud them for it. But I honestly do not comprehend how anyone who actually saw the debates and heard Trump speak could have got the idea that he was someone who should be voted for in the first place. These people don't sound like idiots. Whatever possessed them to vote for that man at all?

I think the bigger question is how could he become the Republicans first choice? As the republicans hold the power in the house, it was always quite likely the a Republican nominee was going to be voted in, as that was the mood of the country. Especially as the Democrat nominee had so much baggage, was female, so breaking the glass ceiling in the USA was always going to be a very tough ask, as it is a very conservative country. Also she didn't come across as a warm person, even Trump related better to people IMO. If it had been Sanders, then it should have been closer. Even Trump said that he preferred to go up against Hillary, to Sanders.
Trump though is a pretty intelligent person, and surrounds himself with intelligent people. I think social media and facebook in particular, had a huge part to play in this, and their team played it well. Personally I am not a fan of facebook, but it is a very powerful medium, and is a huge money spinner with adverting.

That is rather arrogant. Democracy is about choice and freedom of that choice.
Isn't it also about people being able to voice their opinions? Everyone has the right to freedom of speech and expression.

C'mon, it is not arrogant at all. It is a genuine question. If you have seen Trump's talks and his responses during the debates, it is hard to understand why anyone who says they would not have voted for him now, would have voted for him then. He was a blowhard and a bully during the campaign, and he is a blowhard and a bully now. Some people like that and think it will somehow put America on top again, but the people who have a problem with what he is doing, only had to listen at the time to what he said he would do. There are no surprises.
