The UK speaker is a lefty ********** who is not fit to be an MP much less Speaker. It's high time he was biffed. I wouldn't trust a word the man says.

Quality contribution.... not. Almost Donald Trump-esque.

If you prefer a more eloquent version, this is the editorial from this morning's Daily Telegraph

"John Bercow, the Speaker of the Commons, occupies one of the great offices of state, one with an illustrious history. Perhaps the most famous Speaker was William Lenthall, who in 1642 defied a king in defence of parliamentary authority, an event that helped bring about a civil war. Lenthall told Charles I: “I have neither eyes to see nor tongue to speak in this place but as the House is pleased to direct me.”

All modern Speakers stand in Lenthall’s shadow, and should live by his words, mindful that they are merely servants of the Commons. Mr Bercow has instead ignored Lenthall’s wisdom and presumed to speak for Parliament, and thus for the country. The contents of Mr Bercow’s near-hysterical rant about President Donald Trump’s planned state visit to Britain are unacceptable. So too is the fact that Mr Bercow has grossly exceeded his authority, seemingly believing himself entitled to wade deep into British foreign policy by dint of his office and his bottomless self-importance."

"Mr Bercow has suggested he will step down next year after nine years as Speaker, and is clearly thinking hard about his place in history. He has spent much of his time in office (and no little public money) aggrandising himself with expensive foreign travel and meddlesome attempts to “modernise” a Parliament that can function perfectly well without his schemes. No doubt this latest act of self-indulgent attention-seeking is another part of his legacy-building. In fact, he will go down in history as a Speaker whose arrogance and self-regard besmirched his great office."

It's a statement of fact. He's a deeply unpopular Speaker by modern standards who has called the office into disrepute on a number of occasions and  made some very iffy decisions regarding the spending of public money.

Donald Trump has yet to do a single thing I would object to, so that really won't work as an insult if you intended it to be one.

You don't object to easing regulations on Wall St that were specifically put in place to avoid a global financial crisis like that seen in 2008?

You don't object to Trump signing an executive order adding Steve Bannon to the National Security Council, one that he didn't even read or fully comprehend?

You don't object to banning people of a certain religion from a select few countries from entering the USA, as well as revoking visas of those that had already been living there for several years?

You don't object to Trump calling any news or polls that aren't favourable towards him as fake news?

You don't object to the leader of the free world focusing so much energy on discrediting the New York Times, CNN, SNL et al.?

You don't object to Trump preventing women from making choices about their own bodies and endangering the lives of many in third world countries as a result?

You don't object to him continually lying to the America public and the world?

You honestly don't object to a single thing Trump has done, even on this small list?

Nope. Not my place to object. I did not vote for him and he does not govern me. I have no more interest in what he does domestically than I would expect an American to have in what Bill English does.

The Americans elected him. He was abundantly clear as to what he would do if they did. He is doing that. Seems fine to me.

You do realise these things can affect the entire world right?

Maybe it's because I am apart of the younger generation who hopefully feels a need to not selfishly destroy our planet for our own individual gain, but how anyone could so easily write off Trump's actions is far beyond me. It does not matter if you did not vote for him, it does not matter that he doesn't directly govern you, he has the power to destroy the entire planet with one push of a button.  It's time to start thinking and caring about others on this planet no matter which country they belong too.

Of course - but I'm far more concerned about Putin, Kim Jong Il, Iran, India, Pakistan and the Chinese than I am about Trump when it comes to ending the world.

I have enough to be getting on with without adding that to my list thanks.

Any President since nuclear weapons were invented could have done that - and at least one nearly did, if not more.

Keep calm and carry on - you'll find that this all turns out fine in the end just as it usually does. It's principally a storm in a teacup because the liberal left press and their fellow travellers are upset that the pesky voters have chucked a log in the road to the Nirvana they had in mind for everyone whether they wanted it or not.

JayADee: I'm sure you are already aware "Donald Trump will not be allowed to address Parliament on UK state visit, Speaker John Bercow says."

The speaker said, 'opposition to racism and to sexism and to equality before the law and an independent judiciary are hugely important considerations in the House of Commons.'

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/donald-trump-uk-state-visit-speaker-address-parliament-a7565651.html

Also, an editorial in Germany calls for European countries to band together to protect democracy and freedom in a very strongly anti-Trump article.
http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/a-1133177-amp.html

All empty threats as I see them. Unless they go through with them Trump will always win because he never cares about empty threats aka "diplomacy".

In the case of the UK speaker, it's not a threat. He means it 100%. Now it's down to UK constitutional processes and the government to see if there is a workaround for the lack of that signature.

I'm thinking the UK govt will essentially cave to avoid a spectacle and have Trump speak in some other suitable location if not the parliament.

Possibly a blessing in disguise for Trump anyway. There was always a risk some of the more radical MPs would yell their way through it. George Galloway is no longer present I'm assuming the UK has others.

The UK speaker is a lefty ********** who is not fit to be an MP much less Speaker. It's high time he was biffed. I wouldn't trust a word the man says.

I expect a lot of UK officials do not agree. They can't all be wrong.

And typing vigorously on one's keyboard is a way to show care for others on the planet? #keyboardwarriors #genZ

To me moaning on this thread is hardly achieving neither un-voting Trump nor saving the world.

Just my humble opinion.

The White House has distributed a list of 78 terrorist attacks to support Donald Trump’s claim that the media is failing to properly report them.

This list is is riddled with errors:

The full list of Trump's 'under-reported' terror attacks – and how they were reported

I watched that on CNN, who had covered all of those. Its got to a point where at least his wife and kids love him. Also noted is that CNN said he had never mentioned or tweeted the attack in Quebec a week ago, 6 fatalities.

The White House has admitted that they will use the 'fake news' label as punishment to any press organisation that criticises the Trump administration.

I feel NZ should be distancing itself from this disaster and concentrate our efforts elsewhere. For the medium term there is not much to be gained by having close relations with the USA.

Now might be a good time to read or re-read "1984" by George Orwell.

He should marry the woman, Le Pen, a candidate in French elections.

They are simply endorsing that being lying is good.
