SJB:

The clips from the Republican National Convention are some of the most depressing television I've seen in years.

I actually saw a video of Matthew Gaetz (below) arguing with someone at the convention after harrassing McCarthy and the other bloke was right, he is an a----le:

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C9gN5-CR0dR/

(for context, this is what McCarthy said just prior: https://edition.cnn.com/2024/07/17/politics/video/jd-vance-trump-biden-campaign-response-digvid ) - a very sly little dig at the a-hole standing right next to him 😁

Yep, looks like the Republican Party is totally united 🙄

An analysis of how it's all going so far: https://edition.cnn.com/2024/07/17/politics/trump-haley-desantis-rnc-analysis/index.html

"The only possible path to power in the future lies in homage to Trump now." - indeed.

A couple of memes of former candidate Nikki Haley I saw today that I thought were quite clever - her comments in the first one (from this February) really haven't aged well:

(of course, at the convention she did nothing but shower him with praise and then fully endorse him)

Also (this one is a little cruder but the look on her face is priceless):

I had to look up "Onlyfans model who promotes Satanism"; They forgot has a face tat that says "Bash Slash". I must be leading a good life. :)

Mediaite: Conservatives Slam RNC For ‘Giving a Primetime Speaking Slot to a Pro-Abortion Feminist’ Who ‘Praised Satanism’

The Republican National Convention (RNC) received backlash from conservatives for “giving a primetime speaking slot” to “pro-abortion feminist” Amber Rose on Monday.

In her speech at the RNC, the OnlyFans model and ex-girlfriend of Kanye West endorsed former President Donald Trump and accused the media of lying about him.

“I believed the left-wing propaganda that Donald Trump was a racist,” she told the audience, before claiming that her own “research” then led her to realize that “Donald Trump and his supporters don’t care if you’re Black, White, gay, or straight, it’s all love.”

Moore has an interesting perspective on Biden if you can ignore all the usual Michael Moore things and the usual Biden is too old carry on

Summary of Moore: By any measure Biden is the most progressive President since ever. Biden can't win this election. Why? Biden's Arab-American support is down in critical states. Trump's Arab-American support has not moved. Gaza protests have polarised young progressive Americans of all ethnicities. Put Harris in. Right now!

In 2016 Moore picked Trump when Lichtman picked Clinton ; ).

Yes his essay was quite blunt. I watched the msnbc (I think) interview with him about it about a week back and if what he says is correct, then Im not sure how they are going to recover those votes even with booting old joe out. One would hope the Dems have read what has said and are formulating a plan. Biden had his best moment in months at the Michigan rally.... but its time to pull the pin.

I don't remember the stat but it was something like 85% want neither Biden or Trump, the want something new. Well give them new. Its a shame M Obama wont do it, I honestly thought this would happen in a crisis.

Trumps Rhetoric as seen in bloomberg recently, that Black people are going to die because of people coming into the country should be a wake up call for all immigrants, legal or not, including those Michael Moore is refering to. He is playing black people of against immigrants and hes calling these "black jobs". The point being, he is not only racist but hes trying to type cast both Black People and Immigrants.

“The Black population in this country is going to die because of what’s happened, what’s going to happen to their jobs — their jobs, their housing, everything,” he said. “I want to stop that. … They’re taking everything.”

And I thought they were dying from fentanyl overdoses and gun crime as a result of the impoverished circumstances in which they find themselves and to which no Administration has ever provided any sort of solution.

Ah no.

https://www.american.edu/media/news/092616-13-keys-prediction.cfm

With the presidential election just weeks away, Donald J. Trump is predicted to win, according to American University Professor Allan Lichtman. Lichtman’s “13 Keys” system predicts the winner based on the performance of the party and not the use of candidate preference polls, campaign strategies, or events.

Moore did indeed pick Trump in 2016 though:

Another nail in JB's coffin.

But at the end of the day, can they literally push him out? how much damage such a thing would cause?

On the flip side, people as I just said dont want trump or biden, they made it clear they wanted somebody new. But as Biden said he was overwhelmingly voted in the primary, but those are not every day folk are they, they are member of the party?

Give the people change, do some more Newsom/Harris/Gretchen polling. Strategically if they had somebody in there in one of the close swing States, that could work.

Vance supposedly eager to Debate with Harris.

Oh I would love that. I reckon his cult mindset of pregnant women in the kitchen, would come across strong to the public and Kamala would run rings around him, provided its not Fox. I say another CNN style would suit these two, but audience, of females.

To me it was a mistake to stop the campaign adverts. It has been the Repub fanning the violence rhetoric. So what was the point of stop showing what Trump is? and the bullseye thing, anybody with half a brain new that just meant putting Trump under the microscope. Which is exactly what needs to occur.

Even if they put the Trump stuff aside, if they just educated people on his plans, that would be enough to say no thank you to Rus style govt.

President Biden will “self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time,” a White House spokeswoman said. ...

The illness - Mr. Biden’s third bout with Covid - comes as some of his allies and supporters are continuing to press for him to drop out of the race, citing concerns about his ability to defeat Mr. Trump in November. ...

Reporters with him [earlier in the day] said he looked slower and a bit more pale than the day before ...

Ive listened to two reports now, that have said he is more receptive to passing on the torch.

Now if Harris is what they go to, with her polling being fairly similar to his, will hers be lower possibly just because she hasnt been looked at as the actual President? I hope that is clear what I mean. With so many fence sitters saying they dont want trump and they dont want Biden, along with the majority of sane women wanting reproductive rights, black and latino voters. Is it possible her polling is simply held back by pollsters not thinking of her in the role?

Some polls, like Georgia, Trump polls +10 on Harris, but Joe Biden is only 3 behind.

as one person was pointing out, Biden is essentially tied with Trump in polls that are not accurate, 45-46 etc with 4 months to go, Trump has some bumps ahead himself and his own mental state has not been put under the microscope. So with Harris being essentially an unknown, its going to be a very brave call to Joe to step down and I can see why he hasnt. The gaffes, hes always spoken this way, its propaganda highlighting it, well Trump has plenty of his own gaffes and mental issues which a 78yo, do people realy want to change the US to a 78yo autocracy who plans to dismantle nearly everything and if he was to die of natural causes, a junior politician becomes King of the autocracy?

I know some see her as cold and hard to warm too. But he is also experienced and a heck of a prosecutor. I think she could do a VERY good job at spelling out the existential threat to democracy let alone a christo-fascist state, she only has to tell people what they have said what they intend, and what that means for the future of america.

Or, would they go with the smoot talker Newsom. Both are very good, but Kamala has been VP, how would they explain her not getting the main job.....

Yes sorry, you're right - I was more commenting on gzt's point that he said Lichtman picked Hillary to win in 2016; he called that election for Trump.

He hasn't made a call for this year though (yet), apparently that's coming next month.

It is still possible, though there is unlikely the political will. If Biden doesn't gracefully bow out, the chaos created could be a self-fulfilling prophecy of throwing the election victory to Trump,

CNBC: DNC says Biden nomination won’t be fast-tracked, buys time for skeptics

The Democratic National Committee said its virtual roll-call process to officially nominate President Biden will begin no earlier than Aug. 1, though the party said it will end before the Democratic convention starts on Aug. 19.

The decision rules out the possibility that a process designed to quickly nominate Biden would begin as soon as next week, which some Biden allies had pushed for.

It also buys more time for Democrats on Capitol Hill to come together, as many Democratic lawmakers privately hope they will, and ask Biden to step down from the ticket.
