Why do both parties not want LR?

I don't know, but I do know that each bus needs a driver. Buses are also environmental disasters unless they are electric or similar. Europe is full of light rail and that exists for a reason. Buses are a crap solution (in my opinion), suitable only as temporary fill-in.

I totally agree. Europe is full of small cities with very high quality public transport.

It's not like you need huge cities to have good public transport. Auckland would be the 4th biggest city in Germany.

Electric off course. At least they aren't locked in to a track forever. End of the day its just seats. Not sure if Europe equates to NZ

Ahh it's New Zealand exceptionalism.

Show me a city with high quality public transport based on buses.

Show me a NZ city with high quality public transport based on trains.

Why is that?

Gross stupidity.

New Zealand doesn't have any cities with high quality public transport. Wellington is the closest but as with all NZ cities it suffers from a chronic lack of systematic investment.

You got that right, work it out

Well, if they had trains then maybe they would have if trains are the be all and end all according to the experts on everything like yourself.

Dissent is fine, disagreement is fine, and so on, but the poor attitude you show on many posts is BS. yes, BS one of your favourite words. Every few days there are pages of you bitching at someone.

I'd take someone making genuinely interesting posts over someone who has, shall we say, an almost exceptionally high post count compared to just about 99.xx% of users of this site and especially when many of such posts are uninteresting one-liners that reveal non-existent consideration of evidence and often betray the obvious lack of an argument.

And what exactly is your post above other than bitching?

Nationals billions wont solve Auckland's congestion. Adding more and more road capacity is not the answer. Build an integrated public transport system that works then charge tolls to enter the city by car. For decades we have been adding capacity to our roads which only encourages more cars on that capacity. A good example of this will be Wellingtons Transmission Gully will add more congestion to the north south route as more people will get out of the terrible public transport and bring their cars into the city.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I agree that just roads isn't the answer. You also have a good point that congestion charges may be necessary.

I think the thing that you've highlighted is that it's not just one mode that is the answer, it needs to be a transport system.

This is basically it, alongside the clear, indisputable and average Kiwi-triggering fact that "we" mostly want to live like a bunch of frontier conquering idiots who each want a big plot of land out somewhere (if necessary we will sprawl left, right, centre and up to do this) whilst mostly living in shacks that are in condition that would be considered unacceptable in most civilised countries in the 1950s. It's really quite embarrassing to take overseas visitors around even so called "posh" suburbs that are full of broken footpaths or go into multi-million dollar homes where there's no proper heating/cooling (lol @ wall panel heaters) -- but having our own patch of grass each solves everything!

We have exactly the transport systems that the tyrannically stupid majority give to everyone else.

We are obsessed with homes way bigger than we need with large sections we do not use, are permanently attached to cars sorry Utes. Cyclists are seen as vermin EV owners are seen as hippies and users of public transport are just too poor to own a car. Oh and overseas travel is so important we will risk lives to get off shore.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
