I am more or less a non supporter, prima facie Mr Trump is an abomination, however it is too soon to make an informed judgement as he hasn't moved out of campaign mode which I feel is a symptom of his political inexperience. It has only been a month and that is not long enough to judge what 48 months will bring.

From the timeline it looked like he'd been held in Gitmo for a couple of years.

Was he a "nutter" before or after?

FWIW, I think Obama campaigned in 2008 on shutting it down, then having access to intelligence information after becoming POTUS, reversed that position.

Mistakes get made. It happens. It doesn't prove anything. Also, I don't know all the facts of this case, but it is likely that at that time, based on the actual circumstances, the individual in question was in fact falsely imprisoned and entitled to compensation. If so, that has nothing to do with what happened afterwards. Again, it doesn't prove a thing.

Are we actually having this survey? On the basis of things Trump is known to have actually done and said during the campaigns, and other things he is reported to have done and said that are probably mostly true, I find him a thoroughly despicable human being. No, I am not a supporter.

The Pentagon said it would cost $475M to rehouse the "detainees". Plus this

...a statute bans the military from taking detainees from Guantánamo to the United States, and a provision that bars the president from using public funds to transfer detainees to the United States, or construct or modify any facilities in the United States to house them.

I guess that that law would need to be repealed. Or they could be moved to some other client nation (Nauru?). But that would just change the name of the offshore "detention facility".

Trump has finally done something! Never mind terrorism, never mind international diplomacy, never mind solving America's economic issues, this one really has priority: he has told schools they don't have to let transgender students use the bathroom of their choice (and he has reversed his own previous policy in the process).

Commented one Vicki Wilson, a member of Students and Parents for Privacy (whatever that is): "Our daughters should never be forced to share private, intimate spaces with male classmates, even if those young men are struggling with these issues."

Has anyone ever seen a female transgender who has transitioned to male? Some have bushy beards and big muscles and cannot be distinguished from genetic males. They are also often very macho. I would love to see a group of them invade a South Carolina women's toilet waving their birth certificates.

Actions speak louder than reporters. It is interesting the things that are reported. I remember one TV interview I did that took 3 hours to do and played for about 3 minutes. And that was not due to bloopers, OK some bloopers but not but not 177 minutes worth.

I base my position on actual actions not on reported actions and not on electioneering and the continuing campaigning which is somewhat irritating.

I'd recommend that you read up on the issues faced by the transgender community. It's an area that is still very new to me, but I'm becoming increasingly aware that gender identity is a very complex issue. And it is definitely not our children that are most at risk over this.

I agree. I see little action on any issues. I see lots of rants. The policies seem to have taken a back step. Yes, I know its been 4 weeks, but even so, you would have thought he would want to keep the public aware of the progress for all of his key policies. But no.

Why is it OK for your daughters and you to "share" (i.e. use separately but sequentially) a toilet, but it is not OK for you to share these facilities when they're public? Why is it OK for disabled men & women to "share" toilets with each other, but this doesn't apply to able-bodied people?

At what age does this segregation need to happen? IIRC, kids at child-care centres and maybe primary schools "share" toilets.

Here at my work, men & women "share" the same toilets without issue. At Lower Hutt's swimming pool, men & women "share" changing cubicles.

The objection seems to be very Victorian, and based on FUD of what these "different" people might do with their bits whilst in the toilet.

I'm confident you will see action on issues.

Trump has after all appointed a skeptic / critic of public education to run the education system, a climate change denier and long term lobbyist against environmental protection to run the EPA, and an assortment of gazillionaires, generals, wide-boys for a few other positions.

There are 549 key positions for which senate confirmation is required - for 515 of them there isn't even anybody nominated - Trump's been too busy watching Fox News, tweeting, entertaining club members at his alt:whitehouse in Florida, and taking lots of time off for golf.
