quickymart: Trump supporters post names and addresses of Georgia grand jurors online.

A fringe website featured the purported names and addresses of the Fulton County grand jury that indicted Trump and 18 other people for their efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

The question I have is "was the 'law-and-order party' always this bad?"

Though I don't condone it, I could understand the KKK or neo-Nazis doing this kind of thing. Is that the standards Republicans aspire to?

I suspect the people who did this also spout "what would Jesus do?" one moment and "hang the bastards" the next.

It's just sad.

NBC News: Judge gives chilly response to Jan. 6 defendant's Jamaican vacation request

A federal court judge in Washington, D.C. on Thursday rejected a Jan. 6 defendant's request to take a winter vacation in Jamaica with his girlfriend.

Chief U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell noted that the defendant, Anthony Robert Williams, filed the request on the one-year anniversary of the attack on the Capitol.

"Defendant, while on pretrial release and facing charges including a serious felony offense, stemming from his alleged actions on January 6, 2021, wishes to leave the Michigan winter to spend ten days in the warmer climes of Jamaica to meet the family of a woman with whom defendant has been in a committed relationship for 'more than a year,'" Howell wrote in a ruling, shooting down the request on the same day it was filed.

A "SuperPAC" may engage in unlimited political spending. However, they are not allowed to either coordinate with or contribute directly to candidate campaigns or party coffers.
...
but
...
They are devious and clandestine, actively corrupting democracy with untraceable piles of money. They use "public" (but usually well hidden) web pages written for a candidate to coordinate activities and give very specific timely targeted advice.

America: from the last bastions of democracy to the arsed bastards of democracy.

New York Times: Defend Trump and ‘Hammer’ Ramaswamy: DeSantis Allies Reveal Debate Strategy
...
The New York Times was alerted to the existence of the documents by a person not connected to the DeSantis campaign or the super PAC. After The Times reached out to Never Back Down for comment on Thursday, the group removed from the website a key memo summarizing the suggested strategy for the debate. By Thursday night, all the other documents that were posted had been taken down.

Super PACs are barred by law from strategizing in private with political campaigns. To avoid running afoul of those rules, it is not unusual for the outside groups to post polling documents in the open, albeit in an obscure corner of the internet where insiders know to look.

Posting such documents online is risky — the news media or rivals can discover them, and the advice can prove embarrassing. But super PACs often decide the risk is justified to convey what they consider crucial nonpublic information to the candidate without violating the law.

But it is unusual, as appears to be the case, for a super PAC, or a consulting firm working for it, to post documents on its own website — and in such expansive detail, down to the exact estimate of turnout in the Iowa caucuses (“now 216,561”), and including one New Hampshire poll with more than 400 pages of detailed findings. The documents are so strategy-heavy that it appears that the super PAC, which recently had a top official, David Polyansky, leave for the campaign, is trying to dictate how the candidate should conduct himself on the debate stage.

The NY Times - 33 Year Sentence Sought for Proud Boys Leaders

17 August 2023

Federal prosecutors recommended on Thursday that two top leaders of the far-right Proud Boys convicted of seditious conspiracy in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol be sentenced to 33 years in prison, the stiffest penalties requested so far out of more than 1,000 people charged in the sprawling investigation.

In seeking to severely punish the two Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, the former chairman of the group, and Joseph Biggs, one of Mr. Tarrio’s top lieutenants, prosecutors asked the judge in the case to increase their sentences with what is known as a terrorism enhancement. ...

[The men] were found guilty in May of seditious conspiracy, a rarely used criminal charge that harks back to the Union’s efforts to protect the federal government against secessionist rebels during the Civil War.

"The greatest hair anyone has had or seen, ever." 🙄

I also just realised who Amy Kremer is - she had a hand in trying to overturn the 2020 election: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amy_Kremer#2020_presidential_election What's the bet she's next in line to be indicted?

And while we're on the subject of deplorables: https://newrepublic.com/post/175189/vivek-ramaswamy-use-campaign-dodge-legal-subpoena >> Yes. Yes he is.

I don't mind country music, and I even like working-class ballads, but musically not this song.

It is used as a right-wing anthem.

What the candidates didn't seem to realize is that the song-writer doesn't like the rich in general, and Republicans in particular.

I see Mitch McConnell has had another 'frozen' episode while answering reporters questions.

I actually prefer him like that.
