As per the Francis Report its systemic in Parliament. While I agree above, experience does matter, I think we can afford a weed out, there are plenty of experieced MPs around who can bring new blood up to speed. While recent times have been farcical, its probably going to have been a help in the medium term. A lot of this stuff has simmered away behind closed doors, its now front and centre.

It is good that politicians of questionable character and judgement are being weeded out, but I am sorry this is even necessary. Having these people in positions of power weakens our democracy. We need a government we can have faith in, and we also need that in the Opposition.

So long as it's not going to end by going too far down a judgemental / moralising path.

I always understood the old saying "don't dip your pen in Company ink" to be rather less based on "morality" but that it seldom has a happy ending for the organisation if the relationship continues and particularly when it ends.

It's not clear to me exactly why Galloway is fired/resigned. Looks like it was an inappropriate workplace relationship of some kind. Standards are going up in parliament. That's a very good thing.

Bit unfair on the minister of workplace relations as he was just getting familiar with his ministry responsibility.

Did you see Phil learn carpentry? Or Jonesy take up tree planting? Or....................

Nah Jonesy does not have time he still has plenty of porno movies to get through in his hotel rooms.

Not so sure. Apparently acc to PM if he were a minister of a different department his affair might be ok. Or something to that effect.

Did anyone happen to watch Question Time yesterday? This was pre-Lees-Galloway. Collins didn't fumble, but she wasn't that impressive, either. She seemed a little unsure of herself. I guess that is understandable for her first appearance as opposition leader, but she is an experienced debater and usually manages to come across more forcefully.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

You reap what you sow and once a cheater always a cheater and there would be no trust there. I truly feel so sorry for his Wife and Children to have to go through his infidelity in the public arena they don't deserve that in any form.

Only just come across fact that a 17 year old was selected as a candidate for National in Palmerston North.

I'll stick my neck out and say I think that's ridiculous.

Someone that young will be a yes man.

See, this is where I think things get a bit silly. I honestly don't give a crap about this. I am no fan of his, but the big fuss made about this, unnecessarily embarrassed him. I can't recall the details, but I imagine it was a genuine oversight and I bet it cost the Taxpayer less than a bottle of wine he would have legitimately claimed without it ever getting looked at, with the added benefit, it probably didn't impact his work performance, unlike the potential for a $150 bottle of wine might have. Grand total of his financial package and expenses, it would have been a rounding error.

It should have been raised with him privately, he should have paid it back and NOTHING should ever have been said about it in the public eye.

Which is when people end up getting all hot and bothered. She can't win. She gets forceful, people make accusations, she doesn't, she gets criticized. (I mean look at how people frothed over her comments about taking back the front benches).

I imagine when she has good reason to be forceful, she will be. Spending 24/7 attacking at full noise will get old, I am happy for her to pick her battles.

I watched the news conference and I thought the PM made it pretty clear. The main issue was Lees-Galloway's position as Workplace Relations Minister and the inappropriateness of someone in that position having an intimate relationship with a staffer. The fact that it went on for 12 months didn't help.

Now the NZ sites can spend the next few days digging up all the salacious details. I am against them doing this to be honest. If it involved him and no other issue with the party, and he resigns, then the wound has been cauterized and we should just move on.

Scuttlebutt says there is more to this than is currently being said. I'm sure it will come out eventually.

Does it need to? I am pretty torn on this. I personally disagree with being unfaithful to your SO, but it happens. If it happened to me, the punishment of having to face my family over it would be *far* worse than anything anyone else could do to me. If he wasn't in a position to cause inappropriate political influence and if it was consensual, then I don't think it needs to be hashed out at all.  I can understand why you shouldn't dip your pen in the company ink, because it raises the question of improper political influence and related behaviour, but I just hope this isn't front-page news for the next few days if there isn't any real genuine public interest.

Mismatch of power, tricky for the woman if they had problems

Might get tagged along to that conference in Tahiti, other benefits, oversized salary increase

Then, if and when it all turns to custard.....

I think it will be front page until the next scandal breaks which given the way this election is going should be within the next 24 hours.
