I know I have lived a sheltered life. I am coming up to 40 years married and have never thought of being unfaithful. With all the crud that can get dumped on oneself during ones life why on earth would you go out and make things messy, complicated and screw up up multiple lives.
Good question. The next one is why so many do. Welcome back, Mike.
Plesse igmore amd axxept applogies in adbance fir anu typos
GV27:networkn:Now the NZ sites can spend the next few days digging up all the salacious details. I am against them doing this to be honest. If it involved him and no other issue with the party, and he resigns, then the wound has been cauterized and we should just move on.
Scuttlebutt says there is more to this than is currently being said. I'm sure it will come out eventually.
Rikkitic:Did anyone happen to watch Question Time yesterday? This was pre-Lees-Galloway. Collins didn't fumble, but she wasn't that impressive, either. She seemed a little unsure of herself. I guess that is understandable for her first appearance as opposition leader, but she is an experienced debater and usually manages to come across more forcefully.
Fred99:Rikkitic:It is good that politicians of questionable character and judgement are being weeded out, but I am sorry this is even necessary. Having these people in positions of power weakens our democracy. We need a government we can have faith in, and we also need that in the Opposition.
So long as it's not going to end by going too far down a judgemental / moralising path.
I always understood the old saying "don't dip your pen in Company ink" to be rather less based on "morality" but that it seldom has a happy ending for the organisation if the relationship continues and particularly when it ends.
networkn:OMG Andrew Little in workplace relations :( Almost as good as when they put him in charge of small business development. /me facepalms.

He's performance as a minister has been very good. Other than axe grinding what is your objection to him?
I agree, as a leader Andrew Little was way less than ideal however as a Minister I believe he has been one of the more successful Ministers in the Coalition.
Handle9:
I agree, there must be more to this than is currently reported. MPs having an affair generally isn't reported as it's not material to the MPs performance of their job.
It's hardly unique, including MPs having relationships with members of the gallery. If someone cheats on their wife/husband that is a matter for them, in my opinion it's not in the public interest.
I am pretty skeptical of the "full" story, but Wellington is such a small place and 'having an affair' is probably not something that anyone would want to see entrenched as a sackable offence. So I am really interested as to how a Minister that didn't get fired for competency issues suddenly gets the arse for something that was supposedly by and large common knowledge.
Either there is more to it or he made a mistake when Ardern decided she needed to look decisive. Wrong place, wrong time maybe?
Fred99:
(Removed Toby Manhire tweet for space purposes)
Got a chuckle out of this.
Does it mean we are going to get daily 1pm briefings?

I am not sure I want daily briefings of MPs debriefings 😀

Like I said:
Mismatch of power, tricky for the woman if they had problems
Might get tagged along to that conference in Tahiti, other benefits, oversized salary increase
Then, if and when it all turns to custard.....
Minister of Workplace Relations and Safety? Its like having a Minister of Alcohol Abuse getting regularly drunk over a 12 month period. He wasn't fired for having an affair.. If he was caught having an affair with another MP, it would just be a poor look, the voters can have their say on that.

Yep, keep those briefs in the closet!

You could be right, it undermines a key plank of the National messaging by making Ardern look decisive. If it wasn't this close to the election it may have played out differently.

Hmmmm....
In Y2K, but not now the twittersphere and FB dominate. Was a dumb move (men can be very dumb) and he was going to pay the price.
An astute politician wouldn't have terminated the affair a month ago - that was really asking for trouble - and he set himself up to be duly rewarded for that incredibly (politically) dumb act. (A better liar would have survived).
