That's what i figured. I'll see if i can Google that podcast later.

Ideally the police would make a harm minimisation decision, but probably there needs to be some kind of sensible and credible research in this area. From there will come data to make decisions.

I believe there must be individual MPs with the courage, intelligence and simple compassion to want to do something about this country's shameful, idiotically backward cannabis laws. Unfortunately, most seem to be craven, opportunistic me-too-ers without the guts or imagination to actually do anything that demands any commitment beyond collecting their inflated salaries and perks. They are a despicable, cowardly lot of self-serving snout in the trough feeders on the misery and suffering of those they keep at a safe distance with their bodyguards and crown limos. They are like crows pecking for votes. We do not have leaders, who boldly stride forward and show the way. We have chicken-livered weaklings who hang back looking for the safest route, and then timidly follow where the rest of the daisy chain goes.

Anyone wanting my vote will have to demonstrate a principled, unequivocal position on the issue of medical cannabis. I don't care what other empty slogans they choose to croak about. It is time to finally do something about the suffering caused by the myopic imbeciles who still defend this outdated, bankrupt policy.

Here's another one with complete inconsistency as to what our Associate Health Minister Peter Dunn says, and what actually occurs.

Peter Dunn states:" the policy in New Zealand was that people who were using cannabis for medicinal purposes were not pursued by police"

In real life, this young tetraplegic was raided by the police, and the marijuana he was using for pain relief and spasm control was confiscated ( albeit he probably wasn't charged), and as a result, his full time care provider was commanded to leave the premises by her head office, citing health and safety issues.

I hope this young person gets all the support and help that he needs, it is a truly sad thing to occur - both his initial accident, and what has recently occurred.

The degree of obsession in regard to marijuana demonstrated by the police and politicians in this country borders on insanity. If only those resources could be used for something worthwhile.

Interesting stuff is coming from research into harm of some hallucinogenic drugs, surprising in that there was a pretty strong belief that they induced psychosis, "flashbacks", long-term harm.

It seems that they could in fact be relatively harmless and could also have some therapeutic benefit - something along the lines of what "acid freaks" used to claim back in the '60s.

Bravo - but I expect Bill E won't be in favour, it's not going to happen quickly, and Dunne may well not be Associate Health Minister after the election.

I have a strong dislike of Peter Dunne and am inclined to view anything he says or does with skepticism, but I have to admit this sounds very positive. How much it has to do with the upcoming election I cannot say, but if something actually comes out of it I am prepared to give credit where due and to revise my opinion. Just unfortunate it took him so long to reach this point, but late is better than never, I suppose.

All other arguments aside, I would like to see all of the law enforcement (police, corrections etc) resource currently devoted to cannabis taken away from that task, and put into a P crackdown.

If I found out a relative had smoked a joint I would either be relaxed or mildly worried (depending on their age). But that's nothing like the alarm I would feel if I found out they were smoking P!

I tend to agree. But cannabis is a gateway drug to P. Putting more resourcing into combating P is like putting more ambulances at the bottom of the cliff. By then its too late. All P smokers start on cannabis, and most of them already do cigarettes and cannabis.

Yes quiet right. But we all different and handle these things differently. 2 smokers for example with have a totally different experience when trying to quit. One may just go cold turkey, and the other may find it harder, and not be able to quit. This person may find it so hard that they even resorts to stealing to get the kick. It really comes down to that individual, We all so different. Same goes for alcohol, some people get addicted to it, others not so much. IMO I think its comes down to our own personalities, some of us are just more prone to getting addicted to something that others.

People with schizophrenia for example are approximately three times more likely to smoke tobacco than everyone else. Its similar for people suffering from bipolar disorder. Do we really want to give them the opportunity now to add a "gateway to P" drug to their lives?
