apparently the GOP crowd doesn't actually like Vance.

i think Trump's best bet is to change VP, eg get Vance to step down himself, etc

I don't think Trump would do that - he would see that as a sign of weakness, or it would point to the fact that he chose someone/did something wrong. I think he's stuck with James until the election.

Some of the GOP crowd must like him, he did get voted into office as a Senator on his first go.

Depends on what 'GOP Crowd' we are referencing.

There is the group that fell in behind Trump 100% as he gives them licence to be their worst selves.
That group seem to have taken over the 'old' GOP.

So only consideration for Vance at this point is that he also gives licence to be their worst selves.
Vance is utterly loyal to Trump who they know is, and will spout any unhinged consiracies and lies with the worst of them.

He is Catholic and a strict part of Catholicism that is politically active.
That pretty much goes down the line that Evangelicals are following, Wealth and Political domination, so wealth churches will be happy.

What he has said in the past may 'annoy' some.
His utter 180 degree conversion to Trumpism may also be seen as a sign that he will just do what he is told by Trump, Money and Church.

Completely 'Born Again' with no conscience whatsoever, unlike traitor Pence !

The issue I see for Trump in picking James is he's not going to do any sort of outreach or have any appeal to Democrats or any independent voters. He is 100% MAGA (now) as you say, and all Trump has done by choosing him is to consolidate his base. This won't extend his appeal at all to anyone outside of the base.

Yes, Trump got 70-odd million votes in 2020 - but that's not the entire electorate.

Spot on. Trump was so arrogant, he went and picked a "mini-me". one with very little GOP experience, one with a VERY sketchy work record. Had Vance not been morally corrupt, Trump could have leaned into the dems and female base a little, not a lot, but a little. also if you are a fringe GOP voter, not maga, not Trump, just voting Trump because you felt despite being a no Trumper you felt Joe was too old. Well those are a heck of a lot of votes that could swing back.

Who the dems vote for and runing mate is extremely imporant, in all honesty I think it would be better to have a young (sub 65yo) male at top of ticket, but that not going to happen. There is an immense amount of anti female for president voters out there, where we need a heroic, strong male figure to say sometimes us guys need a check and this woman is strong and not in this for women only.. ie in history we have had many strong women stand up to the crazies wanting to take away our rights, the likes of Boudica, after watching the Romans hurt her daughters as the whipped her, she stood up to such misogyny and having their freedom taken away with intense payback.

This imo is what Harris needs to lean into a little, men protecting their spouses and daughters, their pro choice rights but their rights to freedom. The running-mate needs to spell out this freedom part and bullet points amongst sections of speeches of exactly what they plan to change or take away.

But they need to keep the Dem surge going. First it was Beyonce and next then today or yeserday it was Barrack and Michelle Obama, who are the highest rated comptetency (I forget the word used) in the USA

I think she will need somebody slipped in every week for 16 weeks. The Obama's will be a big part of her race.

Incredible, new young voters since she took the torch, 100000 from memory, or more. One would presume mostly Dem voters given the timing and abnormality of numbers at this time of year etc

They need to keep leaning hard into who Trump is and spelling our, this is not normal and this is not ok to have anywhere close to presidency. People forget all he done in his life and all hes gotten away with but has let somebody else be a fall guy, look at how many of his lawyers in prison.

Vance they need to point out his failings and what others have said of him "Lazy" etc and that his morals and ethics are for hire, stating what he was saying about Trump only 2 years ago and call BS on him saying its ok to be wrong etc. at the moment they are going hard on his quotes from podcasts etc within the last two years ie old cat childless women are running this country. Firstly what a stupid thing to say, secondly its wrong. and his ideology that you need to be a parent to have stake in the country is such BS. He is a moron. He might remember things ie academia, but school is not intelligence, its a memory game and he is a good example of what we should lean into differnt methods of teaching.

Another poll showing Harris steadily eroding Trump's (former) lead in the polls.

I was listening to this focus group from Nikki Haley supporters. and it seemed 50/50 as trying to find reasons not to like Kamala rather than reason to see what they do like.

Oh and gosh Megan Kelly, She is throwing out the Biden is progressively getting worse card still. She like many are self appointed brain health experts. . I wonder how washed ups like her and Tucker Carlson survive and I realise they will literally be unlikeable provided they get paid.

Being in the spotlight gives her time to show the likeable sides to her, not just cold and calculating.

Yep, I think her engagement with people started this viral state that shows no sign of slowing down, people, real people are excited. all those zoom groups is amazing. She might be far from perfect but given a choice, 78yo Trump people will chose the person they feel unsure about. I think Trump thought he had it in the bag, took JD to appeal to younger not realising even they dont like him all that much.

Perhaps they would have been in a better state if Joe had chosen a likeable ie Wes Moore. Its the male, particularly white male voters the party is missing, I wonder a stratgic vote for somebody like Mark Kelly, ie blokes like astronauts etc, down to earth type, arizona is a key stratehical state.

But I say give her another 10days and see where her polling lands..

I had a read of this tonight, found it quite interesting - three election strategists (two Democratic, one Republican) discuss some of the gameplans she could follow to win in November:

A look at the previous week in US politics, how Harris is tracking and how Kennedy (remember him?)'s numbers in light of everything going on have dropped...and keep falling.

Plus a couple of images I saw from overnight:

A different take on the "hope" image of Obama:

NBC News: Trump campaign sues Michigan Governor Whitmer over new voter registration sites

The Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee sued Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and others Monday for allowing federal Veterans Affairs and Small Business Administration sites to be used for voter registration efforts.
...
“Under Michigan law, the authority to make such designations is held solely by the Legislature,” the filing said.

Michigan is a state that Trump won in 2016 and then flipped to back Joe Biden in 2020. It is expected to be a pivotal battleground state in this year's election.

Trump has long sought to sow the seeds of doubt about elections before they occur, and he leveled unfounded accusations at several states in the lead-up to the 2020 election, which he then repeated as part of baseless claims to overturn the outcome when he lost.

Is not about giving people the right to vote. It's about removing people from the process if they suspect they would vote for the opponent.

As current VP would Harris certify the election results the same way Pence did?

She could be certifying her own victory.

He was speaking to a Christian conference. Earlier in the speech he said that Christians often don't bother to turn out but they must this time to get him re-elected.

He then tried to say that in 4 years time, when he can't run again, they can go back to not bothering.

As usual with Trump and his limited intellect his argument came out all wrong and it sounded like he said that he's going to try and get rid of elections.
