Excellent step in the right direction. If only we had a regulated market where commercial growers could supply pharmacies with high grade medicinal marijuana....

I watched an episode of Weediquette on Vice, they visited a dispensary in LA and the woman who runs the store is a chemist by trade who can recommend different strains based on the users requirements. Want one for insomnia, try this...anxiety, have a puff on that one...It was all so civilised and professional, like Amsterdam without the seediness.

I smoke marijuana daily to help with sleep problems. The pills from my doc are no good for my stomach and they make me feel sick the next day. They are not recommended for long term use.

Half a joint of marijuana or a few hits on a water bong each night (in the garage, never the house) after the kids have gone down and I can relax and have zero problems getting to sleep.

I've never felt sick from it and am so much better at work the next day because I have had unbroken sleep.

I'm confident one day soon we will grow up as a society and stop treating people like me as drug addicts and criminals.

Cigarettes are a gateway to cannabis. When the cannabis runs out, tobacco is a substitute for a while. I have never heard of anybody either than smokes cannabis but never touches tobacco. Therefore it is my assumption that the cigarettes got the person onto weed, and weed got the person eventually onto P. And not all people are equal here, some will be happy on just tobacco, or even weed. But certain people will always be looking for the new high. IMO.

The world will overall be a far better place without tobacco, cannabis, alcohol and P etc (especially for those who suffer from addictive tendencies), others would be fine if it was all legal.

Have you done any of these drugs? because unless you have how can you speak with such authority?

I've never smoked tobacco and have never touched P, but I do smoke marijuana daily. When the pot runs out I don't have an urge to smoke tobacco or do other illicit drugs. I go and buy some more, and if I can't get any I go without until its available.

Certain people like to base jump off buildings and cliffs, endangering themselves and those around them. Should we ban buildings and cliffs too? What about cars that exceed the speed limit? Should all cars be fitted with speed limiters? People are always looking for the next thrill....

An amusing aside to the article I quoted is the Minister anxiously assuring that no-one should be able to get the slightest bit high from any of the prescription stuff. We can't have anything that might actually make people feel good.

Not sure what I think about this. I am a great believer in cannabis reform but unfortunately I am not a single-issue voter. Even for this reason I don't think I can quite bring myself to vote for TOP. It is a quandary.

I think cannabis will eventually be legalised.

It's gradually going that way now, and the tide of opinion here and internationally seems to make it a foregone conclusion. But it won't happen until a few fossils have left Parliament.

I think many would also prefer to have the psychoactive components intact.

It's very bloody silly IMO. Some Drs might be inclined to say "well take the cannabadiol - but wash it down with some triazolam and a glass of wine if you're feeling like crap".

A good proportion of the drugs GPs describe are psychoactive, and many of those have known potential dependency issues or other side effects. Some also have very crappy evidence for efficacy in the manner in which they're prescribed, but that's okay - so long as it's not going to cause "reefer madness".

I know, TOP have some very sensible ideas. But its a big gamble on a new party without a strong electorate seat.

Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21

This might not happen if there wasn't such blind stupidity about legalising the real thing. This kind of crap might never have come into existence if the real thing had been easily available. People who blather on about the supposed dangers of pot seem conveniently oblivious to the dangers of this sh¡t.

^The Chief Coroner and police have issued a warning, saying there have been seven cases where the deceased is believed to have used synthetic cannabis recently or were found with the drug on them.

That's absolutely shocking. The war on drugs (in this case cannabis) has been so successful that people are using other substances as a substitute instead of a relatively well known recreational item that can be produced by almost anyone.

The war on drugs everywhere seems to have exactly this result. Bad outcomes.

I have to wonder what police could achieve in other areas if they were not directing so much resource into the harmful and pointless pursuit of cannabis.
