Rikkitic:

If Jordon fails responsible Republicans join with Democrats and elect either a moderate Republican or even Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker, at which point the heads of Jordon and Matt Gaetz implode and the Improbability Drive kicks in and transports the entire Congress to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

I think Jeffries would be okay as speaker, but I can't imagine many Republicans - if any - voting for him. Jordan will just be a nasty, bullying trainwreck.

Just when you think Congress can't sink any lower - they do.

They will propose MTG next.

CNN asked Republican Congressman Bacon if the current chaos puts his seat at risk.

”Yeah, it does, These guys want to be in the minority…that’s it exactly.

I think they would prefer that because they can just vote no and yell and scream all the time.

And governing..you got to. You got to work together.”

It’s a tough scnario, but there are people in there that are honorably trying to get to the right place,

And then there are people in there, as you know, that like to go on the TV and are not necessarily negotiating for anything other than TV time.”

“How does that make you guys look?” CNN asked the Republican Congressman

“Makes us look like a bunch of idiots,” Scott said flatly.

One Republican Christian Texas state lawmaker crushes another, regarding forcing Texas schools to post the 10 Commandments in all classrooms.

Lots of great quotes from the bible, and calling out her hypocrisy.

While the "idolatry" argument may seem unusual, the Second Commandment forbids idolatry.

For those interested in idolatry and what happens when law makers attempt to break separation of church and state in the US see Santa Muerte and Satanic Sculpture Installed At Illinois Statehouse

Jim Jordan loses the second attempt at voting him in as Speaker. Slightly more voted against this time.

So some good news today.

The NY Times - As Speaker Chaos Grows, so Does Talk of Empowering McHenry

The second failed effort on Wednesday by Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio to be elected House speaker added momentum to an idea that has been floated by lawmakers in both parties in recent days: Give Representative Patrick T. McHenry, the interim speaker, explicit power to conduct legislative business.

Mr. McHenry is acting as temporary speaker under rules adopted after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that require the speaker of the House to come up with a list of people to fill the post in the event that it becomes vacant. ...

And as the turmoil around replacing Mr. McCarthy has continued, some members in both parties have been quietly discussing a way to explicitly grant Mr. McHenry permission to step in with full - or at least expanded - authority to run the House.

Apparently McHenry is liked and respected on both sides of the aisle, so he could be a good speaker. Just a pity he doesn't want the job.

Trump continues to attract only the brightest and best(◔_◔)

in House Republicans have just elected a speaker nominee
  • in 16 years in this Congress Joran hasn’t passed a single bill

  • in 16 years, Jordan sponsored bills never received any action, neither in committee nor on the floor.

  • This senate only four lawmakers ranked below him.

  • He has ranked in the bottom five among House Republicans each of the past four Congresses.

  • He has ranked in the bottom quarter of House Republicans in every full Congress he served in.
Politico: Jim Jordan’s allies tried strong-arming his GOP critics. It backfired.

Jim Jordan’s allies attempted to badger House Republicans into making him speaker. Those tactics backfired on Tuesday, and could soon doom his speakership push outright.

The Ohio Republican’s most vocal GOP defectors during Tuesday’s failed speaker vote said they were pressured to back Jordan by party bosses back home and national conservatives with big megaphones. Most of those skeptics viewed it as a coordinated push with a threatening theme: Vote for Jordan — or else.

The arm-twisting campaign, which in many cases included veiled threats of primary challenges, was meant to help rally support behind Jordan’s candidacy. Instead, it has put the Judiciary chair’s bid on life support and threatened to plunge House Republicans deeper into turmoil with no clear way out.
...
Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-Fla.), who voted against Jordan on Tuesday despite outreach on Sunday, vowed after the first ballot on Tuesday that he wasn’t switching his position — ”especially now, in the light of these pressure tactics.”

”Gimenez said, lamenting that ”some friends of mine [are] actually believing” conservative claims that he’s prepared to vote for a Democratic speaker.

Another Floridian who also opposed Jordan was more blunt: “The one thing that will never work with me — if you try to pressure me, if you try to threaten me, then I shut off,” GOP Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart said.
...
But one House Republican, who was granted anonymity to speak frankly about private conversations, said that Jordan and his lieutenants are “calling people who voted for him trying to stop the bleeding.” And they warned that those calls are “pissing off” members rather than winning them over, noting Jordan has failed to strongly and publicly disavow the attacks against his detractors.
...
In a move that is likely to further rankle already wary Republicans, Fox News host Sean Hannity’s staff posted a list of the 20 Republicans who didn’t vote for Jordan along with their office phone numbers.

EDIT

The NY Times - Late Night Wastes No Time Jumping on Jim Jordan’s Troubles

“During the first ballot in today’s House speakership vote, Ohio congressman Jim Jordan fell short of the 217 votes necessary to become speaker, but Republicans are determined to keep trying until they finally get it wrong.” - SETH MEYERS

Insiders are saying that one of Jordan’s biggest hurdles is that no one likes him.” - JIMMY KIMMEL

They did this once before with Kevin McCarthy, where it took 15 votes to get elected - so only 14 more rounds to go.” - JIMMY FALLON

How many more times is he going to fail?

I note that all Democrats vote for Hakeem Jeffries. They don't seem to have this problem where they can't all agree on a single candidate to be the speaker.

And another one bites the dust ...

The NY Times - Sidney Powell Pleads Guilty in Georgia Trump Case

breaking

Sidney Powell, a member of Donald J. Trump’s legal team after he lost the 2020 election, pleaded guilty on Thursday morning to six misdemeanor counts instead of facing a criminal trial that was to begin next week.

She was among 19 defendants, including Mr. Trump, who were indicted in August for their efforts to subvert the election results in Georgia.

The guilty plea was a blow to Mr. Trump, who faces the most charges of any defendant along with Rudolph W. Giuliani, his former personal lawyer.

Significantly, it means that a member of the Trump legal team will cooperate with the prosecution as it pursues criminal convictions related to efforts to keep the former president in power after he lost the 2020 election.

Excellent news!  ☺️
