A man with $4 billion of his own money is very hard to bribe - it will be interesting to see what dirty tricks they bring to bear on him later in the race to ensure he fails.

Might be hard to bribe but his business ethics show how dodgy he is. He'd be the type of person doing the bribing.

It's hard to tell how much of "his own money" Trump actually has.

Trump is very, very, good at selling himself, and at creative accounting.

The polls currently suggest that Trump will win the Republican nomination, Clinton will win the Democratic nomination and Clinton will easily beat Trump to become President.

One thing that might change the situation is if Bloomberg the New York mayor enters the race as an independent. He would take votes from Clinton and make it a much closer race.

I feel sorry for the electorate. They are desperate for change but the candidates they have to choose from are truly awful. They are going to end up with the least worst rather than the best person for the job.

The electorate in many other countries are in the same boat.

Here's an interesting article about how terrifying Trump's political rise is.

Personally I found him entertaining at first, assuming he didn't have a snowball's chance in Hell of getting anywhere. Now I'm wondering if Satan has been stocking up on freezers.

Given the polls were just so inaccurate in the first of these primaries, predicting an easy win for Trump in Iowa, I wonder if it's far too early to call a likely winner.

That said, given the likely outcome on the Republican side appears to be between Trump and Cruz, it's a somewhat scary choice; either may be too extreme for the wider US voting population (as opposed to those Republicans who turn up to vote in primaries), but I'd say Trump has a greater chance of turning people away from the Republicans on election day. I would have thought a "moderate" like Rubio would have been a more appealing candidate across the whole population, but then again this is the US where nothing in politics makes sense.

Hard to bribe, easy to blackmail. He reminds me of a Russian oligarch. I simply do not believe that anyone with unimpeachable ethics can accumulate $4 billion by honest means in today's world. Maybe if they start another Google or Facebook (high ethics companies that don't spy on users and pay the taxes they should?) or maybe if they excel as professional athletes? (now there is a field known for its ethical purity).

Nope. No way. Big money means big compromises. No dirty tricks required. He already has plenty in his baggage. Just wait and see.

A reminder that the popular vote doesn't decide the outcome of the election. It's the delegates vote that matters. Popular vote last election had Obama marginal at best to win, in fact he won pretty comfortably.

As you point out, difficult to say, but Finland doesn't seem to be immune to the celebrity for PM problem.
