Asked by a reporter in Florida whether he was a racist following reports that he said immigrants from Haiti and Africa were from "s----hole countries" in a closed-door meeting with lawmakers, Trump said: "No. I'm not a racist. I'm the least racist person you have ever interviewed."

Obama was seen as quite soft and for a long term president didnt actually achieve a whole lot.

Yes, but he managed to get the ACA ball rolling. And against a majority opposition.

Trump can't get things done with the majority on "his side".

I think over there, a 70% achievement is about standard. Promises to fulfilment. IIRC it doesnt vary a whole lot. I think Obama was thereabouts.

Trump, hmm, I will enjoy that stat.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/world/americas/100636319/face-it-donald-trumps-foreign-policy-is-a-triumph

The president may lack the eloquence of John F Kennedy, or the ideological drive of Ronald Reagan, but he has demonstrated an uncompromising willingness to defend the interests of his country, reassure allies, aggressively confront America's enemies and ensure the United States continues to lead as the world's superpower.

He has emphatically banished the Obama era of "leading from behind" while putting an unapologetically American stamp on the world stage.

So, here's some good news about Trump's presidency and this isn't fake news!

Unless this article is satire, those two highlighted (and completely nonsensical) claims make it pointless to read.

The first comment after the Stuff article says it all. I do not regard the Telegraph as an impartial conveyor of unbiased news.

I personally am of the view that Trump has not been effective at anything, except sowing discord and disarray. But even if the claims in the article were true, none of the 'achievements' applauded are things I would celebrate. 'America first' is nothing more than a bully trying to elbow to the front. I will take Obama's intelligent and measured approach over that any day. Trump is a vulgar pig. Where is the achievement in that?

I looks like things are hotting up for Trump with Steve Bannon summoned to appear before Robert Mueller's Russia inquiry.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-42710630

Bannon was highly critical of the hotel meeting between Trump's family members and Russian officials according to comments in Fire and Fury.  He labelled it stupid and treasonous, but back tracked to some extent when he later apologised for comments attributed to him in Fire and Fury.  Trump needs to be very careful about what he says between now and Bannon's appearance before the inquiry, because if anyone knows enough to bury him, it surely has to be Bannon.  I think Bannon will try his best to keep Trump out of the mire, but if cornered, will he flat out lie?  I imagine the consequences would be serious if caught out lying in that context.

Bannon will lie...he is a dishonest jerk. He will only say stuff that benefits him.

I wouldn't think so. I can't imagine peeing on Trump to put him out if he was on fire and I'd just had 6 beers, let alone sticking my neck out to protect him.

Bannon is a self-interested jerk with enough preservation instinct to do whatever is needed to protect himself. If that means serving up Trump, so be it. This is not a man who is going to fall on his own sword, especially not for someone like Trump.

  • In the United States, a grand jury of ordinary citizens who represent the community is often used to decide whether there is enough evidence to pursue a prosecution.
  • Grand jury proceedings are conducted behind closed doors to encourage witnesses to speak freely.
  • The jury has the power to request to see and hear any evidence it wants.
  • This is the first time that Mueller has used a grand jury subpoena to get a top member of Trump’s inner circle to talk.
  • Being put in front of a grand jury is a frightening prospect -

Is it possible that the subpoena is a strategic move designed to convince Bannon to speak with Mueller’s team privately, instead of testifying in front of a grand jury?
