amiga500:

At the White House 'Listening Meeting' one person spoke about how Israeli schools are guarded so maybe something worth for them to investigate.    The poor guy who had his daughter killed with 9 bullets, said if the USA can make airports safe after 911 surely the USA can make schools safe.   He said to treat school security and gun control as totally separate issues.    Among other things he said schools should have guarded entrances and airport type security.

Ive spent a lot of time there, seen a lot, great people, and much more to see, but right now i'd rather watch MAFS. 2016, it will be normal

This is a person who needs a note to remind him to say "I hear you".

I don't really have a problem with people having notes. Looking at the writing I would say that was almost certainly written by a woman and so it may just have been handed to him by a press secretary or someone with "Make sure you cover these off!" as he walked in the door.

I'm more intrigued why he has 45 written on his shirt cuff...!

It's a note from Putin - to remind him that he's one IQ point smarter than "Obummer", and the best President ever.

This may come as a shock, but Trump is superficial and narcissistic. ;)

The monogram is because he's the 45th president.

No other president since JFK has ever thought it was "classy" to embroider a monogram on their shirts.

That's one of his work shirts. His leisure shirts have '69' on the cuffs.

Seriously, though:

From my posts in this thread it's probably obvious that I believe Donald Trump to be lower on the evolutionary scale than scrotum fungus.

However, it's also obvious that he did, actually, manage to worm his way under the door of the Oval Office.

Did he get there by lying, scheming, finagling, bullying? Absolutely.

Did he get there with Russia's help? Indubitably.

But would a guy like Trump get to be Boss in New Zealand? Australia? UK? I think not. (Well, maybe UK - Boris Johnson has got himself well up the ladder.)

As many have said, It's not Trump that's the problem, it's the American culture. He's just a symptom of the rampant social sickness that's infecting all of America.

Consider:

A crazy electoral system that doesn't reflect the will of the people.

A population so steeped in the principles of racial inequality that it's in their DNA.

(Ditto the marginalization and exploitation of women.)

Maniacal gun laws - I won't even attempt to define this lunacy.

Obscenely violent video games, movies, pornography - I won't go there either.

American-designed Social Media systems that are causing more lasting damage than tornadoes and oil spills.

'Freedom of speech'. Yeah, right. Few Americans realize that this principle also includes the responsibility to NOT say whatever comes into their heads.

A 'news' system that is so frequently fake that most of the population just absorb and repeat whatever information supports their own views.

Truth? No longer relevant in the Land of the Brave and the Home of the Whopper.

And on and on and on.

I've always believed that that we're all slightly crazy, but what's even crazier is to allow a culture that's one of the most militarily powerful in the world to be controlled by people who are demonstrably not in control.

So, it seems to me that Democracy, especially in the form that's practiced in the USA, is not all it's cracked up to be.

And I wouldn't be surprised if Trump has reached the same conclusion. It's plain that he has more than a grudging admiration for the dictators of this world, and although he's only a cracker-barrel philosopher, he realizes on some gut level that homo sap can no longer handle the freedom that's implicit in a democratic society, especially when the limited intelligence of homo-sap-en-masse is so easily manipulated by anyone with a loud enough voice and a big computer.

I've always been an optimist but I'm not optimistic about what's going on in La La Land right now.

One downside is that more Americans are beginning to settle here than ever before.

Jump forward 50 years.

If you think MMP is a c**p electoral system, wait 'til you try 'Electoral College'.

Doesn't he seriously don't think:

  • Racist teachers will shoot black kids just because they can? (They already call cops in to take ten year-old and youngers in handcuffs)
  • Some teachers will fail background checks and create a stigma at schools?
  • Racist cops will shoot armed black teachers because "They feared for their lives" and couldn't decide that the white supremacis, crazy nut guy was the actual bad person?
  • Guns will "leak" into the communities?

For teachers to have guns, there are two choices: lock it in a safe at school, or bring it to school.

A gun is a valuable commodity in any country. If thieves are willing to break into schools for laptops, guns would certainly be very appealing.

If teachers are known for carrying guns, it would be easy for a student to walk up behind a teacher, knock them on the head, and grab it.

This could be an "emotionally conflicted" (AKA crazy) student in a class, or a student thief in the parking lot.

It may be just to steal the gun, and run. Worse, it could be to shoot a few people.

Obviously Trump hasn't given any thought to this.

And with the number of teachers in the USA how long before a teacher with mental health issues pulls out a gun & shoots a student just for verbal abuse?

What the USA needs to do is not that difficult.    Spend the dollars it takes to put in place airport style security at schools.     Put airport style fences with razor wire around schools.     Have at least two police staff at each school armed with pistols and AR15 type weapons.   Big schools would have more.

You wouldn't want all the kids arriving at the same time so by use of smart cards the schools could reward students for going through security at certain times.    For example Year 10  8.15 am to 8.30 am and so on.   The schools could give out free snacks or tickets to movies etc.

On the plus side it seems that Trump is thinking about airport style security for the schools.    It seems a no brainer to me.    Sure it might cost a lot, but probably a whole lot less than a $12 to $15 billion aircraft carrier!
