For all involved. While I did give a concession to invoke Godwin's Law when talking about Trump, there will be no space on Geekzone to discuss political ideologies that support racism in any form. Alt-right, White Identitarian, whatever name you give to these, there will be no discussion about this type of despicable theories and political discourse.

That's final.

Kiwi Chris Liddell considered as Trump chief economic advisor:

NZHerald: A story published by the New York Times said the President was "strongly considering" Christopher P. Liddell, who works as an assistant to Trump and director of strategic initiatives, for the job.

Two people briefed on the discussions claimed Trump had not made a firm decision, but said Liddell was the "front-runner" to replace departing top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, the story read. [Snip]

Matamata born Liddell rose up the ranks to become chief executive of New Zealand company Carter Holt Harvey in the 1990s, before he relocated to the United States.

In 2005 he was appointed chief financial officer of Microsoft, then shifted to General Motors where he helped the company recover after the global financial crisis.

At the start of this year he was named Trump's White House director of strategic initiatives - a job placing the New Zealander at the head of a group dubbed "the White House think tank".

I would be kind of surprised if it happened. On the other hand it's not entirely unusual to have foreign born top advisors in the white house.

Looks like nearly everyone will get exemptions from the Trump metals tariff:

CNBC:: In the space of a week, U.S. President Donald Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs went from a "no exemptions" plan to one filled with carve-outs for Canada and Mexico.

Pretty much everyone else has joined the queue as well. With the immediate tariffs in effect Trump managed to make quite a lot of problems for many American companies manufacturing in the USA.

Something interesting I read... For example the USA buys Brazilian-made steel, Brazil buys US metallurgical coal - the thing Trump talks so much about. Increase tariffs on Brazilian-made steel, Brazil might buy the coal from some other country. Unintended consequences.

Well balanced agreements keep these things running smoothly. Take unilateral actions and you can affect the whole thing.

Sure, US is the biggest importer of Brazilian-made steel, but that country now has not incentive to buy coal from the USA anymore. Or might even market its steel to other countries that use this material - e.g. Germany for the auto industry.

Trump has no clue what he's doing.

In a week from now all those steel workers who were at the White House for the tariffs signing are going to be disappointed - there will be so many countries exempted from the 10% and 25% tariffs.

It's almost unbelievable - and should be deeply troubling to anyone with some understanding of real history.

Steve Bannon's words to the French National Front:

“What I’ve learned [visiting Europe] is that you’re part of a worldwide movement that is bigger than France, bigger than Italy, bigger than Hungary, bigger than all of it,” Bannon said to enthusiastic applause. “And history is on our side. The tide of history is with us and will compel us to victory after victory after victory!”

A co-founder of the hardline right-wing Breitbart News, Bannon sought and received loud boos and whistles for the reporters present when he blasted the “running dogs” in the “opposition media” taken aback by Hillary Clinton’s defeat. The American entreated the National Front crowd to embrace the “globalists'” epithets.

“Let them call you racist, let them call you xenophobes, let them call you nativists. Wear it like a badge of honour. Because every day we get stronger and they get weaker,” he said, before concluding on a “God Bless America. And vive la France” sending FN (Front National) supporters leaping to their feet to cheer.

Putin on Russian meddling:

“Maybe they are not even Russians, but Ukrainians, Tatars or Jews, but with Russian citizenship, which should also be checked,”

kingdragonfly: Melania Trump Explains Her 'Einstein Visa'

Here's the archived melaniatrump.com website (which now redirects to her facebook page) from May 2016.

https://web.archive.org/web/20160529203240/http://www.melaniatrump.com/my-world/

"After obtaining a degree in design and architecture at University in Slovenia, Melania was jetting between photo shoots in Paris and Milan, finally settling in New York in 1996".

At the GOP convention in 2016, the same claim about her was made.

There has never been any evidence presented to or found by investigative journalists to prove that Melania attended or graduated in anything, from any university in Slovenia.

The test will be if Trump grants the EU an exemption.  If not, then it's very reasonable to assume that Donald Trump is in Putin's pocket, and we (the rest of the world) could be in for some very "interesting times".  It's possible that Trump may grant the UK an exemption - but not the EU.  Putin would be ecstatic.

There's no comfort IMO in believing that Trump could be just pig-ignorant.  IMO he's getting plenty of advice - from the very worst people.

I blame the internet and social media. So easy to respond to the right/left/liberal whingers.
