Fred99:

LOL!

Trump has been given a serious rark up by Xi - and folded.  I wonder what Xi's leverage was - a threat to stop/slow buying US treasury bonds, something to do with NK?

Yes, funny as. Maybe Xi threatened to fix the trade balance by cutting Chinese exports by 80%, so the Americans can make their own $4500 phones, and $1200 toasters and so on.

I can see Fold 2.0 and beyond with Iran, NK, tariffs. Throwing their weight around won't cut it these days

The comedian Trevor Noah being very serious about Trump, despite "softball questions": questions asked because they are intentionally easy to answer.

Trevor Noah: Trump's focus is underestimated

Trump's latest cia nominee faces a few Senate questions about waterboarding. Dick Cheney chimes in on the news waterboarding is not torture it's perfectly legal:

also claims it was only used three times when it was used many more times in reality
also claims it worked and led to the death of bin laden when it did not.
trumpian levels of bs.

I think the cartoon "Lil Bush" had a pretty good take on Cheney:

"This guy is never in a good mood. He's so cranky he barely bothers to use words and just communicates with a series of dismissive grunts, mumbles and growls. Probably the only kid to ever have multiple heart attacks before his tenth birthday. His unique talent for shooting people in the face, being grouchy and getting triple bypass surgery makes him a triple threat."

Uber Refused To Hire Michael Cohen

The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that Cohen, Trump’s lawyer and “fixer,” pitched Uber but was repeatedly denied.

The ride-sharing company cited Cohen’s ownership of New York taxi medallions as a potential conflict of interest.

He modified his pitch in response to those objections, reminding the company he was “the president’s lawyer,” a person close to the company said.

Maybe it's nothing more than Trump abusing his position to feather his own pockets?

“The Trump Organization is involved in a project in Indonesia building hotels, golf courses, residences — it is getting up to $500 million in backing from the Chinese government,” Noah Bierman of the Los Angeles Times said during Monday’s press briefing. “Can you explain the administration’s position on A, how this doesn’t violate the emoluments clause; and B, how this wouldn’t violate the president’s own promise that his private organization would not be getting involved in new foreign deals while he was president?”

WH Response:

“This is part of a complex relationship between the United States and China that involves economic issues, national security issues, and the like,”

Vox - Why are we taking Donald Trump’s Korea diplomacy seriously?

extracts:

Donald Trump is a liar. More than that, he’s a fraud. Not just a person who makes factual misstatements but a person who has gotten ahead in life through extensive use of bullsh*t, leaving in his wake a trail of broken promises. ...

As president, this pattern has only continued. ...

Trump’s Korea rhetoric is alarming and dishonest

A good clue that we are being set up for some bullsh*t is that not only is the Trump administration’s North Korea policy being headed up by Donald Trump, but it has been conducted so far like you would expect a bullsh*tter to conduct policy. ...

And there are at least three big ways this could end up going badly:

  1. Trump could make a big show of a decisive diplomatic breakthrough at some strategically opportune moment in the fall to try to gain the upper hand in the midterm elections, only for the actual details to prove meaningless when there’s time for analysis later.

  2. Trump could sell out American interests by agreeing to an unfavorable deal, simply for the sake of the positive PR of a major breakthrough - with Republicans in Congress backing him up out of partisanship and nobody able to do anything about it for years.

  3. Trump could show up in Singapore, discover that Kim is not in fact interested in the kind of thorough disarmament that Trump has in mind, and then, feeling miffed by the North Koreans, embrace National Security Adviser John Bolton’s preference for an unprovoked American military strike.

I’m happy to admit that it is, at least in theory, possible that a vainglorious, dishonest, ignorant, and corrupt president who is already lying about his own diplomatic initiatives will shock the world by delivering something fantastic. But Trump has been in the public eye for decades, has a well-deserved reputation as a braggart and a liar, and deserves to be met with nothing but skepticism.

Apart from all the possible financial and relationship motivators.

Obama has a Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump has to have one as well.

gzt: Preferably two.

He should really score the lot:

Physics : “40 Wall Street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan…And now it’s the tallest.”

Literature: for "covfefe", with bonus points for memorable lines such as "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever."

Medicine : for proving that you can write an even better medical assessment of yourself than any doctor could

Chemistry: "People have given me credit for having great chemistry with all of the leaders".

Clean sweep.
