Here is a direct link to one article on it. Green, National and Labour all against it. Winston says he is troubled by it but not enough to send a formal missive about it apparently. Says he will mention it to the ambassador when he next sees him but won't make a special effort to express our disgust. I think he wants to ignore it in some hope we don't annoy the US and he can get a nice comfortable ambassadorship there when he retires.

 

 

Its just noise. We are too small. So best not to cut our nose off to spite our face. The US will get whats coming to it, leaving the other 6.7 billion to move on

It's funny (???) because this is just what Stormy's lawyer, Michael Avenatti, predicted: that Michael Cohen would be bankrupted by defending himself.

Michael Cohen's lawyers told Judge Wood that there's 15 attorneys working round-the-clock, even sleeping on office couches.

Michael Avenatti noted that rates are usually more than US $500/hour per lawyer, and upwards of $1,500/hour for more senior lawyers. He estimated Cohen is easily spending $350,000 to $500,000 per week.

He noted that Trump has made an enemy of his "fixer" Michael Cohen.

Avenatti, predicted even if Trump pardoned Michael Cohen, that Michael would still be broke and angry and would turn witness for the FBI.

Hopefully Trump won't follow his Russian associates lead, and have Michael Cohen meet with an "accident."

If Putinesque "suicide by gunshot in the back of the head" or "accidental fall from apartment balcony" plots are in place, then Avenatti would be the more likely target.

 

Trump might survive Cohen flipping - I mean WTF could happen that couldn't be pardoned and then Trump's propaganda machine used to prove that it was deep state and a witch hunt?

 

Avenatti however is like a terrier attacking a pack of dirty rats.  He is on a mission to take Trump down, he's smart, calculating, fearless, has a social conscience, a very likeable rock star presence, and he is the GOP swamp's absolute and total worst nightmare.

Winston Peters says the forced separation policy is a matter for the US. I guess that sums up the attitude of the NZ government. Frankly I am ashamed.

 

 

Peters is not exactly a supporter of immigration here into NZ. His attitude does not surprise me.

 

The fact that his comments represent us Kiwis however, disgusts me on this issue.

 

*Disclaimer: I can understand the need for immigration control. I will not support forced separation.

"How dare you? How dare you Sir? Sir how dare you"? Let's be honest here, Lewandowski probably lapped that up.

 

I know, I know - I'm old school. But in my day, to refer to anybody as sir was a sign of respect. Instant fail in this case. Lewandowski deserves zero respect for that wah wah comment and that's where many Libs don't get it.

 

I would have called Lewandowski out for what he is - and the first word starts with N and the second ends with T. Being nice, polite and accepting of each other is leading us down a potentially ugly path.

How so?  The US has an isolationist policy under Trump, its only about America. Many other nations are working together more and more. Look at trade. FTA'a are very common, the average tariffs in most countries ts 3% or less. Trump uses tariffs. Many nations are involved in joint groups, Trump is walking await from them also. The world will be a better place should the US keep to itself or be excluded as and where possible. That means cooperation for the greater good for most of us.

We are one of the US' closest Allies - part of the Five Eyes alliance, even - and New Zealand tries to take the moral high ground. Our government put quite a bit of pressure on Australia over their treatment of boat people, which although pretty awful at least didn't include systematic separation of parents from children. If we are prepared to speak out against that, why not against this?

 

It's not that I don't 100% agree with your sentiment in regards the US getting what they deserve, but that's a separate issue.

It's not that I don't 100% agree with your sentiment in regards the US getting what they deserve, but that's a separate issue.

 

 

We are small and vulnerable. If say we might be in line for some exemption for his tariffs, that would be blown away if we mouthed up. We have a lot more to lose than others. Call it selfish, but we are smaller than small. However, if there was overwhelming public attitude to make a strong and vocal response from NZ to Trump, I'd have no issue with that as long as we accepted whatever consequences might arise. Given his attitude to lies and families and allies, our teeny island would be a nice target for him to exercise his power.

He has backed down over family seperation, and also stated that he hasn't backed down. He said he needed Democrats or Congress to fix this, but apparently not, he has signed an executive order.

The Hill tweeted 'Melania Trump blasts Trump policy.' Time even put her on a list of Republicans who 'criticized' the administration's policy.

On first glance, you may be tempted to say, 'Good for Melania! She's standing up to this immoral policy!' But that's not what's happening here. What you're actually seeing is a statement that was masterfully crafted by a publicist, designed to make you believe the first lady is speaking out against children being ripped away from their parents. In reality, Melania — an immigrant herself — is peddling the same mistruths and mischaracterizations as her husband.

Melania does not deserve praise for doing the bare minimum.

Separating families at the border is not an issue of 'both sides'; it is squarely a decision of Trump's Republican administration — one its officials continue to defend. Additionally, despite what is in implied in Melania's statement and what White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders would like you to believe, there is no law that requires families to be separated.

...Former first lady Laura Bush condemned the policy in an op-ed in the Washington Post, calling it cruel and immoral.

...It's hard to know what Melania really feels about anything because she says so little and when she does speak, it's a perfectly prepared statement that does not go off script.

But when it comes to this current immigration and human rights crisis happening at our border right now, she has made it clear that her allegiance is really to her husband and upholding his agenda — not to the children.

Melania is not a clueless victim and does not deserve our sympathy."
