I dont disagree. Forget Twyford. It isn't at Govt as it hasn't been decided who will build or fund it. Lets say there are say 3 options, forget what Twyford says, there are 3 options. No matter what these are, Light Rail is over, that's my point. So, if and when it goes to Government to decide what to do, its already ended. They may as well shelve it now, and revisit if they succeed in the election and if they go with NZF, throw it out. And let Peters arrange AKL rail transport himself as thats where it seems to have ended up

Tough pill to swallow for the parts of Auckland with no rapid transit that have been a holding pattern for years waiting for something, anything to happen.

But you're right, Light Rail is dead, as much as I wanted it to work out and be built quickly.

So, assuming NZF is again the Kingmaker, Light Rail will never happen. Where does Peters dream of heavy rail fit in? I assume its not for rapid transit, whats his plan to solve that issue? Unless whoever coalitions with him takes that off the table or NZF is not needed. Given the election is soon, and there is a dire need for employment and infrastructure is a big part of that, you would have to beleive that rapid transit in AKL, in whatever form is at the top of the list for whoever wins in Sept

Expecting coherence in an NZ First policy platform is a total waste of time, and no one ever calls Winston out for it.

Chris Bishop has made mention of a busway for West Auckland at some point, keen to see if that survives the leadership change.

From what I have seen on Twitter, the big infrastructure projects aren't the big manpower draw they used to be due to the equipment used and specialised construction environments. So expecting mega-projects to mop up unemployment might not work as well as it used to.

I don't envy Robertson, he seems like he is capable of allocating the money in a sensible way, but the people he needs to oversee the spending are either incompetent (Twyford), negligent (Clark) or both (Peters/Jones).

Any construction will help employment, no a road won't mop up thousands, but transport needs to catch up, so lets push on. Lots of other stuff in amogst the previous 12B and what will now be more. If Labour wins, you would have to expect a reshuffle. Its probably not a good look to do that mid term, in 3 months, yes. They can drain the laggards then.

Im sure the entire caucus isnt full of Phil Twyfords. Maybe Gerry Brownlee can help out, his mismanagment of EQC/CERA was mindblowing and inept

I agree Twyford is incompetent.

That is quite a turn around. What changed your mind?

I must say Todd Muller's performance over these last few days have been terrible.

Q&A on Sunday Night: https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/q-and-a/clips/new-national-leader-commits-to-raising-super-age-bringing-back-oil-and-gas-exploration

Question Time yesterday: https://vimeo.com/422643676

And lastly Tova who loves her sensationalist drama, typically directed at Labour but for the moment directed to National: https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2020/05/national-mps-already-leaking-as-new-leadership-team-of-todd-muller-and-nikki-kaye-suffers-disastrous-first-sitting-day.html

If this is a sign of things to come it doesn't bode well for National.

Turn around from what? Feel free to give a link to any posts where I gave him praise.

Perhaps you are confused that as I supported this Govt in the last election  that means I support and think everyone in the party is a dream MP. No, but I can see what you would think that....

Its an inexperienced team, they can find their feet. A time arrives when they have proven their place or not. Pretty simple really. He was actually known as the Fixer, no idea why, in retrospect. Megan Woods seem ok, but unproven. So, no, I dont wear rose coloured glasses 24/7

There is no need for that type of comment. I was asking out of genuine interest, as you defended him when most people that participate regularly in the politics threads, including me, were calling for his head over Kiwibuild and the other things he hasn't delivered on. It was scarcely believable he was then given AT to work with.

Ok. I took your comment based on what most of them are towards me. Apologies.

As to Twyford, or anyone, what I said above. 9 years out of Government, then in Government, I allow them or anyone to find their feet. Same with Muller. What I've seen from him so far isnt great, but as I have already said re him, time will tell. Same for a new Labour Govt with a brand new leader and out of play for 9 years, but that isnt a lifetime free pass.

His performance on this morning's TVNZ Breakfast show was also appalling. John Campbell had him on the ropes and he had no answers.

Lots of stuff for Muller to brush up on. His interview with Lisa Owen on RNZ was equally all over the show, but she seemed to think he should have fully costed proposals for everything.

Whoever is advising Muller and the Nats will be working through this weekend. You're front and centre now, and some people won't let you talk your way out of it (if at all). Can't afford too many wobbles at this point. One or two, maybe, but if this is still happening in a week, people will be asking if he's really any better than Bridges.

Having said that, I would love to see Ardern face this level of scrutiny at some point from someone more credible than Mike Hosking.

She gets that most days at the update standup from all the journo's. 3 months of it so far. GR would rock it, no question of that.

I see Rigor doubled down on Todd Muller today. But as we know Rigor is Rigor, it means nothing. (Rigor is Mark Richardson, media personality I guess you'd say?)

Don't know for sure, but I suspect she would do rather well. She is quick-witted, doesn't lose her cool, and has a good grasp of the facts.
