It's a finer moment than this post is for you. That's not what she said.
Was she misquoted in the article I posted above, or in the lead article of the Herald currently? Looks like what she said?

Ardern: If I don't win I am quitting, if you don't want me to quit then vote for Labour.
/me facepalm
What in the flying spaghetti monster's name are you doing? You've paraphrased / misquoted what she said by putting your own nasty little spin on it by paraphrasing it dishonestly, then get pedantic about how the press may have reported it???
ROFL.
“My message would that be if people don't want to see me resign, then vote for Labour.”
It's a weird flex, I'll give you that. But only slightly weirder than Collins acting like she wouldn't be knifed almost immediately after the election.
But they can't just ask Judith to leave, can they? She has to want to leave, right?
She may think everyone in the country supports her but I don't hear that - and I think she's putting on a brave face.
Ah well, guess we'll all find out tomorrow night.

Speaking to reporters after the event, Ardern said she would step away from politics entirely if Labour lost the election.
“My message would that be if people don't want to see me resign, then vote for Labour.”
Twisting works in both directions. How is it the "honourable" thing to do? She didn't say she would *offer* to step down, and she knows Labours talent especially in leadership roles is pretty thin. She could be a very effective opposition leader, almost certainly moreso than anyone else in the current
Labour caucus.
I was merely contrasting your twist with my own to illustrate the point. You presented it as if she is trying to blackmail voters. That is very much your own interpretation. I see it as presenting a political reality. Most leaders who lose elections also lose party leadership. Apart from that, maybe she just doesn't want to be an opposition leader. Nothing wrong with that. I don't want to be a rap musician.

I wonder if she intends to be there for the whole term, or if her (likely) UN posting will call soon.
Key at least did the honorable thing a few months out before the last election by standing down before the vote. I still wonder what would have happened if he had run, 2 equally popular party leaders going head to head would have been an interesting contest, not to take away from Bill English, but he didn't spark life into the party like Jacinda or Key did.
I don't see Collins being at the helm in 3 years, but I really don't see anyone else up to it either. Being my home area former MP, I wouldn't have minded seeing what Amy Adams could have done, but she just never seemed high profile enough, was always part of the nodding dog brigade in the background but rarely at the forefront, moot point as she is retiring now.

Wasn't that asked and answered? I seem to recall that she specifically stated she would serve out the term.
