The Times of London - Soviet-era snoopers return to ensure Russians stay loyal to Putin

Soviet-style “political commissars” are to be introduced in Russian government departments and state companies as the Kremlin seeks to stamp out dissent and ensure loyalty to President Putin, according to sources in Moscow.

Deputy heads of federal ministries, agencies and state companies will send staff “signals” about the Kremlin’s political line and report back on their “emotional climate and mood”.

The measures will be co-ordinated by the internal politics division at the Kremlin, where the new monitors are referred to as “politruki”, a term used in the early Soviet era for commissars in the Red Army whose task was to ensure soldiers obeyed communist doctrine.

The idea was first broached last year but gained new impetus after the invasion of Ukraine ...

The atrocities are alleged. Why even add that to your comment? Just the invasion would be perfectly accurate and worthy of discussion. But trust me when I say that the video evidence is piling up at the feet of the paramilitary Azov battalion who are being funded and trained just like Al-Qaeda were. The US will fight this proxy war to the last Ukrainian.

NATO is not in the business of stationing ICBMs in member countries as far as I'm aware. There are numerous former eastern bloc countries became members of NATO.. None have missiles stationed as far as I know. Do you know something different?

Without doubt, Putin is a terrible despot who should be shunned by the world. But in saying that, what do you guys think of the unashamed hypocrisy on show now with the [China's] Solomon Island issue? https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/apr/23/us-warns-solomon-islands-against-china-military-base-as-australian-mps-trade-blame. This is far from a border that could be a threat. Nato in UA would mean a 5 minute missile flight time to Moscow. I just find it hard to fathom the lies and Hypocrisy coming from the West. It was revealed Wednesday that YouTube had placed a warning on the 2016 documentary Ukraine on Fire by executive producer Oliver Stone....

On YouTube, when a user clicks on the film via the production company Global Tree Pictures's channel, the screen goes black and displays an inappropriate content warning. Viewers can still watch it, however, by clicking that they wish to proceed.

...YouTube's Policy Communications Manager Ivy Choi told the Washington Examiner that the documentary's violent content warranted the warning. The video had been up for 10 months before the platform censored it.

"We removed this video for violating our violent or graphic content policy, which prohibits content containing footage of corpses with massive injuries, such as severed limbs — for example, videos of beheadings," Choi explained. There are smaller channels that have re-uploaded the documentary, though Choi said YouTube will take their videos down.

"While we do allow content with educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic content, for some categories, we have a higher bar, and we do not make exceptions for certain kinds of violent or graphic content," Choi added.
