Don't know for sure, but I suspect she would do rather well. She is quick-witted, doesn't lose her cool, and has a good grasp of the facts.

I'm sure we'll see it at some point in the campaign. Quick wits won't help much when you're being asked about transit systems or houses promised and not delivered.

She will probably say something like 'we stuffed up, next question please'.

Houses is easy, the mistake was thinking the past created affordability crisis was fixable, it wasnt. They can admit to that, its their fault, done . Last time we talked wasnt the transit system still under review by NZTA? And part of the wider Auckland review of development? yes, its late, and it wont go ahead as NZF canned it. The other issue is do we get a free system and send money to Canadian retirees for 50 years or do it ourselves? Since February, we have probably been forced to give it to Canada. Yes its late but its not a matter of a few meetings if the entire development of Auckland is included to make sure its right. In any case why do we need it now, should the last administration have had the project well or partly down the track by 2017? Yes

Yes it was slated as to be finished 2021, I'll grant you that

She will. Man up, so to speak. What they thought they could fix was already ruined, and so on.

Then the next 50 questions will (quite rightly) be "then how can anyone trust you to deliver any of your policies?"

tdgeek: If Labour wins, you would have to expect a reshuffle. Its probably not a good look to do that mid term, in 3 months, yes. They can drain the laggards then.

And replace them with..........(sound of crickets).

Based on current performance the stale and pale blue team aren't much better.

When Brownlee is your sixth ranked MP in 2020 you have a problem.

Anyone can make a mistake. We learn from experience. What makes you think the other side will do better?

Senecio:

His performance on this morning's TVNZ Breakfast show was also appalling. John Campbell had him on the ropes and he had no answers.

https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/todd-muller-rejects-great-conspiracy-theory-hes-been-campaigning-depose-simon-bridges-months

Lots of stuff for Muller to brush up on. His interview with Lisa Owen on RNZ was equally all over the show, but she seemed to think he should have fully costed proposals for everything.

Whoever is advising Muller and the Nats will be working through this weekend. You're front and centre now, and some people won't let you talk your way out of it (if at all). Can't afford too many wobbles at this point. One or two, maybe, but if this is still happening in a week, people will be asking if he's really any better than Bridges.

Having said that, I would love to see Ardern face this level of scrutiny at some point from someone more credible than Mike Hosking.

If you are going to base your campaign on competence you need to display it. Their caucas has a bit more talent than Labour but not much.

Labour has real vulnerabilities but unless National can come up with something more original than more roads and it's time for a tax cut they aren't presenting an attractive alternative.

I've seen very little evidence of the coalition learning from its mistakes in delivery. They need better talent.

I don't have much faith in national either.

I wouldn't argue that the government has displayed some astonishing incompetence since it got elected. But it has also performed flawlessly in the face of extremely difficult challenges on at least two occasions. Anyone who dares attack this government on the basis of competence is in for a very hard time.

LOL. It's a pretty easy argument to make and one that the government has no argument for. Basically Twyford and Davis make the argument for the opposition everytime they are in front of the media.

And everyone who matters goes 'ahhh' every time Jacinda Ardern gets up. Winners and losers. The winners are way ahead on this one.

Kiwibuild will be mentioned every 5 minutes when need in the campaign. What I look at are similar examples from National, bui they don't run "projects" in the traditional sense of a policy. Its conservative, market driven economy and low intervention. We are too small for low intervention we ride the waves of the globe. Closes I can come to a modern day hands on is the GFC, EQ and maybe Waterview Tunnel. They dont 'do" stuff, that the mantra of a conservative, market driven economy, and  low intervention party. GFC was fire, borrow borrow as expected, EQ's were a mess from start to finish and beyond, the tunnell I assume was fine.

Its hard to assess National if they were proactive.

If they remained on the front bench after the election if Labour succeeds, I'd be shocked. Can't see it.

Snow White and the seventeen dwarves.

Their numbers are very soft. If they were really that far ahead National wouldn't have maintained better polling numbers than Labour for most of the election cycle.

Ardern is very good in a crisis but had proven to be a fairly poor manager of the cabinet. Peters and Jones have run rings around her for the last 3 years.
