If you believe that then I don't think you fully understand how it works. As President Trump would have the capacity to do enormous damage, regardless of what Congress thinks. This would extend across every aspect of his Presidency, but just to take one example, he could easily precipitate an international diplomatic crisis and economic meltdown just by saying something off the cuff that is poorly thought out.

You can't rule out Donald Trump until the results say he is defeated. Because he doesn't follow any rule books. I wonder if there are any dirt on Hillary to be exposed. I have to say though the tide is very much against the Don at the moment, so him winning is highly unlikely, but I am not counting him out for now.

It's called the "donkey vote" in Australia, where voting is compulsory.

 

The donkey vote has been estimated at between 1 and 2% of the vote, which could be critical in a marginal seat.

 

For candidates, being at the top of the alphabet helps.

In the 1950s a North Queensland conservative was elected as a result of donkey vote ' preferences' for the communist candidate Aarons, and this allowed the re-election of the Menzies government with a majority of one!

If they are going to have a donkey vote, they could at least randomise the name order every time. I don't see much difference here, since I keep reading that people just tick the names they remember from the hoardings. I suppose that must be true, because it explains all the posters with inane faces and 'vote for me' slogans that appear everywhere during elections. Are people really that stupid? Do they really decide their votes on the basis of 'name recognition' and the pictures they have seen? If so, why do they bother to vote at all? I really don't understand this.

The media are anti trump because apart from the fact he would be a disaster for the USA and snyone reasonably educated will notice this. The republican and democratic parties which both don't seem to support trump, probably have a large say in what gets reported. Therefore hanging him out to dry. The real losers here are republican supporters who are stuck with a bad candidate.

There is at least one case of someone who had died in a plane crash shortly before the election and so had not had their name removed from the ballot papers, being voted in. So yes, people really are that dumb.

Yeh they are both abysmal candidates.... Trump cant even compose himself properly without looking like a grown up child, and Hillary is just as evil. How do you think Al Qaeda got their weapons? Of course they were left overs from what was sold to the Iraqi's and Iranans by the USA and Russia so they could have a war. The same thing is still going on with Syrian rebels and Assad. History never repeats, I tell myself before I go to sleep right?

 

I personally preferred Bernie Sanders to get into the race. Although he would have raised taxes a lot.

Sounds like AKL house prices are going up again. (Every time something bad happens in the US or Europe AKL house prices go up)

Rudy Giuliani is very pleased with Trump's performance.    Photos of Trump with his family and team post debate make it obvious that they think the debate went very well.    It would not surprise me if Bill Clinton does not stump for him any more & that Chelsea will stand in for him at events.    The Trump supporters would not risk holding up the 'Bill Clinton rapist' signs when she was speaking or at least I don't think they would.    However, anything is possible in this crazy election.

 

Would the USA election have even made it onto Geekzone as a topic had it been say John Kerry versus Jeb Bush?

Isn't the electoral vote awarded based on the popular vote (per state, obviously)? So whoever wins the popular vote in the large/important states, like California, wins the election.

Same if the Democrats take them and Trump wins. What would be really instereting is if Trump wins with a Republican majority who really don't like him.

 

 

 

 

Multiple times in history the popular vote has been won by one candidate and the election has been won by the other. At his second term Obama was about 10 points behind by a fair number of polls, in the popular vote, and STORMED in with electoral votes. 

 

The main issue with Trump being president from a personal perspective, is listening to him speak for the next 4 or more likely 8 years (Very rare for a sitting president to be usurped).

 I don't get why Clinton is evil. I could hear bad, don't like her, etc, but all I hear on here is pure evil. She arranged the sale of weapons to Iraq, Iran, now Syria? She did? Wow. Both parties have been on power since the Iraq war was started.

Never happen. To start with, if he had remained aggressive, he would have had a very good chance of winning, based on time for a change, anti Clinton, etc. Not him per say, but the situations over there.  But his mouth and mind got in the way, to at least make a win unlikely. Now its impossible, as his recent offerings and revelations have downwards quadrupled the negative opinions of him. The early conspiracy theory that he would go against Clinton, be a dick, and get her in makes more sense than anything Ive seen lately, as what he is doing is well beyond bizarre. Its an absolute circus, by the world's superpower.
