I still can't quite understand how anyone who personally owns 7 properties could have the faintest idea about the housing crisis/shortage in this country.

And I cant understand how a childless politician that earned good coin right from university (including ridiculous sums as prime minister with guaranteed pay rises and perks for life), travelling the world, could ever understand child poverty.  It didnt seem to make any difference to her advocacy and empathy.

Are those properties rented out or sitting empty?

There is always a nicer property in a nicer location just out of reach.

Your small rental and Airbnb empire could have been much larger if you had all that tax back.

'There is always a Bigger Fish'

You may look at Noel Edmound's almost buying a small village to become 'lord of the manor',
Cheated that your country did not provide you income capability to do the same or better.

Europe where long term rental is more the thing.

Rental companies are eaten by larger ones, social housing divested by public bodies encouraged by Libertarian freeing up the market.
Until in Berlin for example they now have a Duopoly in rental market.

Then there is Dublin etc.

Totally different (and irrelevant) comparison. If Luxon sold some of his properties to first home buyers I would be inclined to change my opinion on him.

Anyway, let's see what he wants to actually do about the housing situation, and if he has any solutions for it. He's talked the big game, but can he play it is my query.

Dont think I agree.

We have two properties in NZ, we running a loss on both of them. They are currently housing average Kiwis, one couple is a young family, the other is an elderly lady who lives on her own. In the current market, the neighbourhoods are better off with these houses as rentals.

Except when asked point blank whether the return of tax deduction would mean that he, personally, would lower the rent to his tenants, he refused to say yes. So in other words, no. He's just going to keep the difference. And that settles that.

Anyway the important thing is that there hasn't been a single ram raid since the election, so it's clearly working already.

Not a single labour strike yet either?

Of course not. Why would there be strikes? The repeal of fair pay agreements and the reinstatement of the 90 day trial is good for business profits, and what's good for business profits is obviously good for the workers. Trickle-down economics proves it.

Gangs getting blame for the messed up social landscape as usual.

https://www.1news.co.nz/2023/10/24/mongrel-mobs-harry-tam-member-warns-of-dangers-to-special-police-powers/

The poncy populist patch ban achieved almost nothing in Whanganui

https://www.1news.co.nz/2023/10/31/nats-want-to-ban-gang-patches-what-happened-when-whanganui-did-it/

Optically it makes some people feel better and does not a lot for the real victims of gang life.

I'm sure pharmacists are really looking forward to an increase in foundation makeup related robberies if Mitchell's tattoo ban goes ahead.

It can only get sillier and sillier going down that road. I'm sure we are only seconds away from establishing a tattoo review board.

Maybe our Gang problem is Australia's.

From way back in 2022. It was only 2000 and counting then , now ?
https://thespinoff.co.nz/politics/01-12-2022/a-brief-look-at-the-harm-australias-501-policy-has-caused

People with certain special skills, in perhaps a more tough environment than soft New Zealand.
Insufficient social support mechanisms and mostly destitute with just certain 'special' skills.

Unemployment is part of the plan according to those who do not want Reserve Bank to go soft on unemployment.

Unemployment, special skills, lack of social housing (Market will deliver).

It may get a lot worse before it gets better.

Except for Harley dealers and service?

Its simple really. Don't come here and do crime. If you do you will be sent back to where you came from. Can't blame Aussie for sending the crims back.
