Its simple really. Don't come here and do crime. If you do you will be sent back to where you came from. Can't blame Aussie for sending the crims back.

The issue is not that they are deporting criminals. That's completely normal. The issue is that they are taking people who have lived in Australia their whole lives and using the loophole that those people never got citizenship to deport them. Whilst technically correct (the best kind of correct) they are exporting their criminals. If you have lived in Australia since you were 2 and have been in a gang for 25 years, you're an Australian criminal, not a New Zealand criminal.

I wouldn't say stupid, but I think his background makes him think he is smarter than he is.

Yes, as I stated "He is an amateur in Parliament"

Totally different (and irrelevant) comparison. If Luxon sold some of his properties to first home buyers I would be inclined to change my opinion on him.

Anyway, let's see what he wants to actually do about the housing situation, and if he has any solutions for it. He's talked the big game, but can he play it is my query.

I thought that post was re JK, until I read "her"

This campaign from all parties isnt about the housing crisis (as while they may have fixes, they wont be palatable. ) Nothing abut climate change, so I guess that also isnt important.

Will adding back deductibility reduce rents? No. So double dipping is all good

The argument this side is that they are New Zealand citizens, not Australian citizens. Why must taxpayers this side of the ditch pay for them to to serve that time here? If you have lived in Australia for 25 years then thats plenty of time to get citizenship. Not doing so indicates they are not interested in staying here permanently anyway. With the new pathway to citizenship for kiwis there is absolutely no excuse to not become a citizen anymore.

What I do find interesting is that many of these 501 deportees are hardened criminals who should be in jail. Why are they just allowed back into society in NZ when getting off the plane? Surely they should be arrested and put into jail when arriving back in NZ?

Except when asked point blank whether the return of tax deduction would mean that he, personally, would lower the rent to his tenants, he refused to say yes. So in other words, no. He's just going to keep the difference. And that settles that.

As I just posted. Nicola said rents wont decease, they just wont go up. So.... increase rents to cover lost deductibility. Get it back but retain the deductibility increased rents. Double dipping. Im not aloof to this, I had a rental with a mate at age 19, and since.

But inflation will be sorted as will decades old health and education issues, as well as infrastructure, so I am good with that....

You can’t arrest people for feels. If they haven’t committed a crime in New Zealand then there no grounds for arrest.

I still can't quite understand how anyone who personally owns 7 properties could have the faintest idea about the housing crisis/shortage in this country.

I’d greatly prefer someone with the intelligence and ability to execute policy than someone who is incompetent.

He’s organised his personal investments in a way that is logical in the current environment. There’s no suggestion that he’s done anything unethical or illegal.

Not a single labour strike yet either?

To be fair, when JK was pushed for health salary increases he stated a flat no. Labour got in, more focused on workers so the workers pushed it, and yes there were strikes, as there was a potential outcome rather than a blunt dismissal.

Health spending. National said look at what we did, how much we added. Thats 100% correct. However the fact was there was large increase to aged care salaries/budget that year, so the spending was up in that sector. But the rest of the sector went backwards. Stats can say anything that suits.

Honestly are we really any better than Australia when it comes to deporting criminals?

New Zealand's deportation policies are contributing to growing crime and drug addiction problems in the Pacific region, according to a newly released report.

The report shows that from 2013 to 2018, New Zealand deported 1040 people to Pacific nations, and 400 were criminals.

Yes.

We haven’t structurally removed a pathway to citizenship for a specific group of migrants for 20 years.

Saying any New Zealand migrant could become an Australian citizen wasn’t correct for a long long time. That was a political decision to appeal to the bogan electorate.

I never though it was illegal or unethical, just I don't feel that given his current situation (owning so many properties like he does) he would have a handle on how a lot of people are having difficulty with the cost of housing (and living in general), as opposed to, say, John Key who I understand did grow up in a state house, so at least he had an idea of what living tough could be like, at least for a while.

Of course, when Key was PM house prices weren't as ridiculously high as they are now, so I guess it's all academic.

gzt: Recounts in Mt Albert and Nelson where National lost by less than 30 votes

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/501723/national-s-melissa-lee-calls-for-recount-in-mt-albert-after-slim-labour-win

Chris Luxon before receiving election results: this is taking too long, it's not fair on New Zealand. Also, I would just tell them to do it faster.

Chris Luxon after receiving election results: we're going to ask for recounts. Also, I'll take as long as I like to form a government.

I don’t think electorate seats change the result of seats in parliament, just could bump someone off a list seat and person in electorate seat gets in instead if lower in list. Exception is if win more electorate seats then it’s share of party votes then extra seats are created in parliament to keep the proportions the same.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/428085/our-mmp-voting-system-explained

"If a party wins more electorates than its share of party votes allows for, extra seats can be added to the Parliament to make up for the "overhang" and ensure the proportions remain correct. For instance, this meant there were 121 MPs in 2005, 122 MPs in 2008 and 121 in 2011."
