The Washington Post - Intelligence panel has deal to hear whistleblower’s testimony

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff said Sunday that his panel has reached an agreement to secure testimony from the anonymous whistleblower whose detailed complaint launched an impeachment investigation into President Trump.

The announcement from Schiff came on the same day that Tom Bossert, a former Trump homeland security adviser, delivered a rebuke of the president, saying in an interview on ABC’s “This Week” that he was “deeply disturbed” by the implications of Trump’s recently reported actions.

Those comments come as members of Congress return to their districts for a two-week recess, during which they will either have to make the case for Trump’s impeachment or defend him to voters amid mounting questions about his conduct. ...

Yes there is - and not FBI as was reported earlier.

Trump's threats are 100% NY gangster / organised crime style. Same as his veiled threats to Ukraine. Always "plausible deniability" as an out.

He really should be impeached for that witness intimidation statement he made alone. Nobody should need protection from threats made by the POTUS - it's absolutely outrageous.

He's also tweeted a statement made by some evangelical church leader, more-or-less threatening civil war if he's removed from office.

The democrats chasing him on this can't turn back now. It's got potential to escalate into something extremely ugly and dangerous.

I have suggested the possibility of civil war in the past. The forces Trump and his daemonic legions are unleashing could easily lead to this. Unfortunately there are plenty of armed to the teeth crazies more than willing to jump into something like this. The greatest hope for American democracy may actually lie with the military. There is a strong tradition of disciplined non-partisanship and civilian rule, but also here Trump has individual supporters. It depends on how seriously they take their oaths. This could indeed turn very ugly.

The New York Times - Trump Raises Idea of Arresting House Chairman for Treason

The president questioned whether the leader of the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff, had acted illegally in the way he described Mr. Trump’s call with Ukraine’s leader.

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Monday questioned whether the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Representative Adam B. Schiff, should be arrested for treason for his description of a phone call Mr. Trump had with the president of Ukraine during a recent congressional hearing.

A day earlier, Mr. Trump called for Mr. Schiff - the California Democrat who is the de facto head of an impeachment inquiry into the call - to be “questioned at the highest level for Fraud & Treason.”

Trump is desperate - a major tweet storm - 80 defensive tweets in the last 24 hours.

Schiff made a major tactical error in "dramatically" paraphrasing the Trump phone transcript - this played right into the hands of Team Trump.

WASHINGTON — President Trump pushed the Australian prime minister during a recent telephone call to help Attorney General William P. Barr gather information for a Justice Department inquiry that Mr. Trump hopes will discredit the Mueller investigation, according to two American officials with knowledge of the call.

...President Trump initiated the discussion in recent weeks with Mr. Morrison explicitly for the purpose of requesting Australia’s help in the Justice Department review of the Russia investigation, according to the two people with knowledge of the discussion. Mr. Barr requested that Mr. Trump speak to Mr. Morrison, one of the people said.

...In making the request, Mr. Trump was in effect asking the Australian government to investigate itself. The F.B.I.’s counterintelligence investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election began after Australian officials told the bureau that the Russian government had made overtures to the Trump campaign about releasing political damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

...Mr. Mueller’s investigation confirmed that Australia played a central role in the origins of the original F.B.I. investigation, even if his final report does not mention the country by name. It said that information from a “foreign government” prompted the F.B.I. to “open an investigation into whether individuals associated with the Trump campaign were coordinating with the Russian government in its interference activities.”

They've subpoenaed Guiliani to produce documents relating to what he was doing in Ukraine.

He and Trump have tried to claim lawyer:client privilege to stop this, but Guiliani wasn't acting as Trump's personal lawyer - or if they want to keep claiming he was, then that is self-incriminating.

Guiliani has already admitted guilt. In response to a question on a TV interview "So, you did ask Ukraine to look into Joe Biden"
he replied "Of course I did."

That's noted in the subpoena documents, as well as Guiliani claiming that he has texts, phone records, and other documents implicating others in the WH who he's suggested were involved.

They can't walk this back. Best hope for Trump may be if Guiliani throws himself under a bus.

As for the documents, if Guiliani doesn't comply, then he'll be charged with obstruction.

It's the leading story in Aus news sites this morning. Next story is about a Republican congressman (Collins) who just resigned as he' been busted for insider trading shares in an Aus biotech firm - IOW ripping off Australians.

This will have ScoMo in a bit of a panic, if he denies it knowing it's true, then there's a record of a conversation released, he'll be in a spot of bother.

FWIW, Scomo had dinner with Trump, along with special invited guest Lachlan Murdoch.
