I have suggested the possibility of civil war in the past. The forces Trump and his daemonic legions are unleashing could easily lead to this. Unfortunately there are plenty of armed to the teeth crazies more than willing to jump into something like this. The greatest hope for American democracy may actually lie with the military. There is a strong tradition of disciplined non-partisanship and civilian rule, but also here Trump has individual supporters.  It depends on how seriously they take their oaths. This could indeed turn very ugly.

It maybe prudent for the US to weather the storm of Trump and not press for impeachment. With Trumps recent Twitter hints of civil war the spectre of large loss of life looms ever higher. The use of military on home soil has restrictions and has very dangerous possibilities. The US could be fatally devastated should that happen. The US is definitely at a cross roads where the majority of the roads  seem to be leading to disaster for them and globally.

Except Trump has already hinted that he does not believe a 3rd term should be denied him because of all of the time "he has wasted" with these investigations.

And it would not surprise me if he seriously believes he is entitled to pass on the presidency to Ivanka.

Allowing Trump a 2nd term would be deepening the level of corruption even further, as well as giving him time to rally the troops to enforce his continued presidency for as long as he wants.

His thinly veiled threats of violence unless he gets his way should be taken seriously and he be removed, bankrupted, and exiled (if not imprisoned for life with Bernie Madoff).

Except the Constitution says clearly it's limited to two terms. Anything else just shows his contempt.

Hasn't he already shown contempt for it?

ROTFLMAO, Trump care about the constitution only in that he will tell his followers that his opponents want to take their guns away.

Trump is convinced he is outside the law, outside the constitution when it suits him.

THAT is what makes him dangerous.

Just like Hitler. People were always "He can't do worse than this..." and he would go one level up.

I had agreed - as the damage from failing to convict could result in a far worse Trump if he secures a second term. But it's probably too late now - for the Democrats to not proceed.

From a quick browse of Trump's twitter archive, he hasn't tweeted an attack on Pelosi since she became leader of the house following the midterm elections. Maybe he's checked her record and understands that he's not going to be able to beat her by belittling, misogyny, his usual bag of dirty tricks. I believe he fears her.

You can't make this sh1t up. Donald's AG Barr asked foreign intel officials to help investigate CIA and FBI.

But wait, surely they wouldn't agree to something so stupid as that investigation...

Whilst I'm sure there are about 10 million people in Australia that would gleefully throw Alexander Downer under a literal bus, I'm quite appalled that the federal government would be willing to do this to any diplomat, past or present.

Just when you think it couldn't get worse. What the hell was Australia thinking? Or not thinking? Glad the idiot doesn't think much of us.

Like others here, I really fear for the eventual outcome. Who says the end-of-worlders were stupid? Their bunkers may well get some use.

Wondering if there will be a tipping point when a lot of the rats may jump ship to try to save themselves?

How about this "fellow new zealand citizen" making the US newspapers:

Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel, who believes Google should be investigated for treason and once wrote that American democracy has been in decline since women won the right to vote, is investing heavily in two of the Kansas City region’s most ambitious political startups.
