Two points of concern I have are, if this is not successful and Trump is not impeached then his revenge could be a blood bath. Secondly I believe his hubris is such that he will pardon himself.

Team Trump Implodes as Scandals Multiply

Jimmy Kimmel Live

Trump tweeted and retweeted 130 times over the weekend, and as his scandals multiply his team continues to defend their boss with everything they've got, a look back at something fascinating Ted Cruz said, Rudy Giuliani does the media circuit, Robert De Niro goes after Trump, and a magical high school band member from Arizona goes viral.

The Washington Post - Foreign allies who gambled on Trump face big losses

October 2

The Trump administration has had a rough few weeks, but spare a thought for the president’s closet foreign allies.

From Britain to Australia, Japan to Saudi Arabia, foreign leaders who decided to gamble on America’s unpredictable leader are probably wondering whether they made a losing bet. ...

Appearing subservient to such an unpopular figure carries real political risk for any foreign ally - particularly in Britain, Australia and Italy, where the governments are already struggling with their own instability and questions of legitimacy. ...

Trump involved Pence in efforts to pressure Ukraine’s leader, though officials say vice president was unaware of allegations in whistleblower complaint

Washington Post By Greg Miller, Greg Jaffe and Ashley Parker

President Trump repeatedly involved Vice President Pence in efforts to exert pressure on the leader of Ukraine at a time when the president was using other channels to solicit information that he hoped would be damaging to a Democratic rival, current and former U.S. officials said.

Trump instructed Pence not to attend the inauguration of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in May — an event White House officials had pushed to put on the vice president’s calendar — when Ukraine’s new leader was seeking recognition and support from Washington, the officials said.

Months later, the president used Pence to tell Zelensky that U.S. aid was still being withheld while demanding more aggressive action on corruption, officials said. At that time — following Trump’s July 25 phone call with Zelenksy — the Ukrainians probably understood action on corruption to include the investigation of former vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.

...Pence’s activities occurred amid several indications of the president’s hidden agenda. Among them were the abrupt removal of the U.S. ambassador to Kiev; the visible efforts by the president’s lawyer, Rudolph W. Giuliani, to insert himself in the U.S.-Ukraine relationship; as well as alarms being raised inside the White House even before the emergence of an extraordinary whistleblower complaint about Trump’s conduct.

...Kellogg, Pence’s top national security adviser, listened in on the call from the Situation Room, which was the standard practice, but did not see it as unusual or flag any concerns about it to the vice president, officials said.

White House lawyers, alarmed by the call, quickly moved detailed notes of it from a widely shared internal computer network to one reserved for “codeword-level” records about CIA covert action programs and other highly classified material.

All this collusion stuff doesn't matter any more...

The God Emperor has declared on this day that "what [some conspiracy by by enemies of the state, Biden, Hillary, some Mexican, Jew, Muslim, Socialist, Liberal, etc] did" was the "real crime".

Trump 2.0 has been officially launched, in full fascist mode.

I am guessing he is doing this publicly to try and water down the original ones. His voters will simply be saying "what's the problem, he even does it on TV"

He may get away with it. Right-wing media trolls have embarked on a systematic disinformation campaign and the legions of the brainwashed are lapping it up. Every time any Republican raises his head above the parapet, it gets stomped on with fake accusations and lies. This happened to Mitt Romney. According to a recent national poll, only 4 in 10 respondents who identified as Republican believe Trump mentioned Biden to the Ukranian president, even though Trump himself has admitted that and it is in the transcript. No-one cares about facts anymore. Victory will go to those who shout the loudest.

Trump's been constantly giving the middle finger to Congress since the mid term elections. Senate is complicit in all this.  Democrats were hardly in a strong position to argue for reducing a president's use of executive power as they've had to use it in order to get things done in a hurry when they don't hold both houses. Once upon a time that was okay, as presidents didn't openly break the law, so legal use of executive power tolerated as with a change of government they could see themselves in the same position.

This is different, they've now got a POTUS gone rogue, and a real constitutional crisis. Even if Biden was the antichrist - it makes no difference to that. As is stands, there's no evidence whatsoever that Biden broke the law, but the US media should ignore "what Biden did", and focus attention on facts - that the President is openly flouting constitutional law.

If Trump gets away with this, then we're all (in social democratic nations) in deep trouble.

Maybe he has turned to a divide and conquer action to try and save his presidency. If he succeeds he may try to bring in some bizarre emergency powers to retain power indefinitely. The US is at a very dangerous cross roads which could send them to a very dark place. I believe that this is why Pelosi was very reluctant to go down the path they have now chosen.

It's not just right-wing media trolls. Fox news has its roots with Roger Ailes who wanted to make sure Watergate would never happen again. Not to make sure a President couldn't go rogue like Nixon, but to make sure that a conservative president wouldn't suffer Nixon's fate.

And it (Fox News) is delivered to about 100 million US homes, and if you think that the inevitable and probably imminent death of Rupert Murdoch will improve things, then nope, his son Lachlan is arguably much worse. Note that with Scott Morrison's recent WH dinner with Trump, invited guest at the table was Lachlan Murdoch. You'd think Aussie media might have expressed some discomfort about that, then think about why not.

I'm still shocked that Republicans are still willing to cast a blind eye to being chums with China and Russia.

I guess the new Republicans saying is "better dead than red, at least in the US, and in particular if it's a woman of color, but not when Trump says ignore China and Russia"
