Yawn.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Our National day?  Must be some kind of bad joke.  Just looking forward to the day off personally.

It's a day off work, but it's sure as heck not "our national day". I'm closing in on 40 faster than I'd like and quite literally my entire life it's been a day of division, hatred, and anger. Time we banished it to the annals of history and replaced it with a proper "New Zealand Day".

*edit* That aside watching Joyce take a cock to face was pure comedy cold. Best thing a protester has done in years!

I think you have over simplified this maybe you are just against the current government but that's fine.

Like a large amount of others the whole thing is a joke and just seems a platform for 'some' to grind their own political axe regardless of who is in government.

I recall how Helen Clarke was treated which was shameful but that seems the norm.

News media should refuse to go as well.

I agree. I am tired of Maori vs Pakeha. For me, you are Kiwi, or GTFO. NZ day suits me fine.

Yes I understand it's historical significance, but for the longest time it's been a reason to continue separating two races, not bringing them together.

I am all for everyone having their own culture, so long as at the end of the day, we are all Kiwi's fighting TOGETHER to make NZ great.

We need to settle things outstanding payments and then move on.

I was at my barber the other day and a discussion was being had on the day of the TPPA signing, and most of the people there were Maori and they were all in agreement, that the nonsense in Waitangi this year did not represent how any of them felt. They thought the behaviour by the elders was disgraceful.

One of them actually suggesting doing away with Waitangi day and finding another name for it.

It celebrates what created this nation, it is our national day but it's being hijacked by a very small minority and dramatised by the press. If we drop it then a small group wins.

I disagree, it's a relatively small part of what created NZ, we have a much longer history than that and not much of my day to day has anything to do with it.

If we drop it, which small group wins? Wins what?

If we drop it, the largest majority of NZ wins and the small group of vocal muppets have no power to make a fuss any longer.

You can try and deny historical fact but it is the treaty that created New Zealand and continues to allow the nation to grow and develop its unique character.

Please explain to me how it affects the average Kiwi today in any significant way?

If we stopped Waitangi Day, will we no longer have a Maori Culture?

You still haven't explained which small group wins if we call it NZ day instead?

Are you asking how treaty affects New Zealanders or Waitangi Day?

Why would we stop our national day?

The small group that would win if we changed is the small group that disrupts the celebration. The group this thread is about.
