I left bankdirect when it became obvious that they didnt care about it anymore compared to the ASB product offerings.

insane: Well as the title suggests, ASB online banking passwords don't seem to be case sensitive. I first noticed it when I tried to add complexity to my password, however was told I can't reuse my existing password. So I tried logging on using an incorrect password (adding upper case letters where there shouldn't be) and can happily login.

Can any other ASB customers try replicate this?

Their website says they should be... but clearly not.

I have to say that this is surprising, I have always liked ASB's online banking experience.  Something to note, is the username is customer selectable, so the chances of someone guessing the username plus the password even with this case sensitive issue is low.  That being said, I would of thought that security would be much higher.

Check the ASB post a few up from this. Sounds like they've sorted everything out?

Perhaps read the ASB Blog Fiona linked to above and see where they say that this month they are finally resolving that by introducing case sensitive passwords up to 100 characters in length for FastNet Classic and Online Sharetrading.  Note: doesn't apply to FastNet Business, which is what the link in OP is describing.

Is there any chance you will do this for Bankdirect or NZ Home Loans accounts?  Those sites are well overdue for a bit of love.  I understand you may not be able to do this for NZ Home Loans but you have no excuses for not keeping Bankdirect up to date as that is a 100% ASB invention.

Hi @graemeh, while BankDirect's NetDirect will not use the new look ASB Login, NetDirect users will have the opportunity choose a to case sensitive password up to 100 characters long with all the usual special characters once the changes are live.

These changes don’t extend to New Zealand Home Loans NZHL Online, but we will keep you posted if that changes.

Thanks. ^SM

Thanks it is good to know the more secure password applies to the bankdirect site too but is there any chance any of the many other features available to the rest of ASB customers being made available to your customers under your bankdirect brand?

Why don't you just move to ASB?

I was annoyed when I moved and lost a nice black eftpos card for a bright yellow one.

Add 123 on the end to make it secure and you're good to go.

It looks like ASB still needs to get the message out about their updated password settings, including the need to change your password to introduce the case-sensitivity - https://www.reddit.com/r/newzealand/comments/3qqta7/til_the_asb_bank_web_site_password_is_kind_of/

So this is actually an old issue? Tried logging in just now and there's no difference if your password is "Password1832xxxx" or "paSSworD" (say your password is password).

ASB, are you gonna fix this or leave this as a feature?
